The OHS presentation was making excuses for himself and MBI. Those things he listed as open, were things already under an open license and could not be closed off without loosing them (ie the board built of the Arduino). The arguements that because something is steel, people can't make it at home is BS. Maybe he can't make it at home, some can. There are good non-MBI printers out and comingby pricecw - General
I edited because none of the controversy is about the Replicator 1 or before. People acknowledge they once upon a time followed the OSHW philosophies. Since the controversy is about the Replicator2, pointing people to Replicator1 or cupcake is not helpful or genuine. And I hold them more to their words, than my expectation. Had they formed a company and said we will make comercial, closed souby pricecw - General
bobc, If I can make a suggestion, we can also make a difference in whenever someone comes to one of us asking what 3D printer to buy (ie they don't want to build one), we point them to good solutions that are not Makerbot. We let them know of the lapse of trust and ethics that company has, and point them to one they can trust (ie for upgrades, documentation, support), even if it is closed.by pricecw - General
I am working with slic3r for the moment, I want to get back to skeinforge, but have been able to get reliable gcodes from slic3r currently. Doing that, I have got some decent prints, I did the nickle calibration from thingiverse last night, and it was really good wrt x,y,z dimmensions, so I think the hardware is pretty spot on. I'm still tweaking a profile for that, have a few issues that I thiby pricecw - Skeinforge
Jeff has been very good at trying to get this fixed, and like I said, even with this hiccup, I would buy the printer again. If you are taking requests, I would like to see a quick vid of first print on a fresh system, unzip the file from your download page, pick a model (gecko, etc), create gcode, and print. I have been playing with slic3r, and have been able to print, now I am trying to imprby pricecw - General
Thanks for the link. I have been playing with slic3r, and have better success than the skeinforge profiles. However I still have issues with it, so a walkthrough of setting it up is appreciated. Still hope to get a decent skeinforge profile to work in the future, but right now I want to be able to reliably print. It is kind of frustrating to have a nice piece of hardware I know can do good prby pricecw - General
I don't think it is a calibration issue with the printer itself, I can get a gcode from Jeff that prints just fine. There are a lot of times that the gcode is empty (when I press the create gcode in replicatorg) except for a few comments, other times (ie I press go) that I get gcode, but it doesn't seem to want to run the printer (had it stuck not even heating up on the gecko last night, but wheby pricecw - Skeinforge
Hi, I believe I am the customer. It looks like the profile was wrong in two places by default that caused this. I can usually get a slice done now, but still having problems with what comes out of skeinforge printing. I was trying to slice things like the 20mm-box, gecko, etc from the print me first and calibration tabs. Thanks, --Carlby pricecw - Skeinforge
I got my printer about 3wks ago, it is a 12x12 Glacier. The Hardware is a great piece of work. I am very impressed with this unit from that perspective, when I can get it to print, I can really see the promise of this design and the quality and care put into designing and building it. I am currently still trying to get the unit to print reliably and with any repeatability (the reason I waitedby pricecw - General
