"Suffice it to say that it's not even relevant since the architecture with the simpler math is simpler to build and calibrate too" That's the real reason to build it this way, I don't think one should think about the math being a limiting factor. Find the best solution mechanically, the math problems are much easier to solve. I think as a first solution one can leave acceleration settings as tby alagi - Delta Machines
Hello! First of all, nice work! I think all this talk about having to have a simple math is irrelevant. One can write a script to convert the xyz paths that the slicer prints out to whatever geometry before printing, on the computer. (this script should split straight lines to small segments, because straight lines in xyz geometry are tipically not straight lines in other geometries) Than one cby alagi - Delta Machines
I can now answer part of my question with the help of nophead: short version: Yes, it's possible to print with acrylic. (By the way, very informative blog, I've started reading recently from the beginning, Kudos to nophead!) So the question remaining is: Is there filament available?by alagi - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Hello! I have been thinking: What about extruding acrylic? It's glass transition temperature is around 100 C, just like ABS, so in principle it should be possible. Maybe it needs higher temperatures? Is there filament available? Has anyone experimented/thought about this?by alagi - Plastic Extruder Working Group
SZiasztok! I have never tried using SD cards with arduino mega, only with the smaller arduinos, but it's not easy to find a card there that works either. It has to be an SD card and not an SDHC card (that's the older, slower standard, the physical sizes are all the same), but even then, not every one works.by alagi - General
I have also been using a V4 arcol, it works great, I can recommend it. For PLA, you need a fan for the plastic anyway, and that one is enough to keep also the upper part of the hotend at room temperature. For ABS you might want to have one on blowing at the upper heatsink, but It might even work without that.by alagi - General
These are also good ideas which I did not know about, thanks for bringing them to my attention. One last thing you did not respond to: why is it hard to couple the threaded rod to the motor without comeing loose?by alagi - General
I see now, thanks. I don't think having the z motors on top is so bad. Let me tell you why: Getting rid of the z wobble is easiest by using a small threaded rod instead of M8. I'm using M5. It doesn't matter how bent that is, the smooth rod is stronger than the M5 threaded rod, so it will keep straight. Now if you put the motors on the bottom, the M5 might buckle out if the X axis is too heavyby alagi - General
And what holds the smooth rod on the top? Your photo doesn't show that.by alagi - General
Is the hardware working correctly? If you connect to your printer with pronterface and click on the extrude and retract button, can you both extract and retract?by alagi - Slic3r
You need better values for the PID temperature controller to avoid big drops in the temperature. For details look here:by alagi - General
Maybe the hobbed bolt hasn't got a proper grip? You can test this by turning of the stepper motors, and try to turn the big gear with your hands. (obviously with a hot hotend). You can feel if the bolt slips. If the slipping happens at a 'low' force, than the grip is not good enough. It's best if you can not make it slip (with a reasonable force).by alagi - General
Is your extrusion properly calibrated? This might be caused by a too big 'extrusion multiplier', that is, more plastic is beeing extruded than it should be.by alagi - General
There is some weird wobbling like behaviour that 0.9.2 causes. In the attachement you can see two gears, printed right after each other on the same printer, the good one was sliced using 0.7.2b the bad one with 0.9.2. It is not a Z-wobbling issue from the threaded rod, as it is only present on one of the gears, and the period is about 7-8 layers with 0.25 layer height, that is 1.75-2 mm. (I'm usby alagi - Slic3r
what's the feedrate that pronterface uses to move the z axis that you have checked to be correct? That should go into the config as the max z-feedrateby alagi - General
Pronterface uses a different Z speed than your slicer does, and the stepper motors can keep up with the pronterface speed but not with the slicer speed. They are loosing steps. You should change the max allowed Z speed in the firmware to something smaller, such that the printer can actually keep up with it. it's this line in the config: #define DEFAULT_MAX_FEEDRATE {500, 500, 5, 10}by alagi - General
