Looks good What's it called?by Tekwizard - Plastic Extruder Working Group
I just make the holes bigger in Openscad on an individual basis and measure the actual result and make adjustments until I get them right. This has provided me with an intuitive knowledge of how much bigger to adjust various holes to make them work out ,and I'm usually bang on. For instance, a 5mm hole for my machine needs to be about 5.35mm in Openscad. A 22mm hole needs to be about 23.17mm. Entby Tekwizard - Mendel90
Thanks Keith, didn't see there was a special forum just for Openscad. That's why I looked in the Design Tools forum - since this forum says it deals with the CAD programs etc... Y'know.by Tekwizard - 3D Design tools
Hi Everyone, I just upgraded to Openscad 2014.03 and when I use my left mouse button to move around my object the whole object and the axis move as if they are in orbit around the front of my screen instead of rotating around the center of the axis as they do in my earlier version (2011.12.30). This make it really difficult to look my part over as I'm designing it because it literally goes off sby Tekwizard - 3D Design tools
Sony tried to corner the market by having patents on nearly every mechanism, method and circuit in their Beta video machines. So, the rest of the industry created new ways of doing the same thing and created VHS machines. VHS machines are nowhere near as efficient as the Beta system, and require 4 heads to do the same job as the single head in a Beta machine. The Beta was simply a cleaner and betby Tekwizard - General
If you're only out by 1mm, perhaps it is a combination of not perfectly round smooth rods, and not entirely equal accuracy in the printed Y rod clamps. a half millimeter discrepency in the printed parts and the rods could add up to a 1mm difference depending upon how they are put together. Your smooth rods appear to be ground a bit where they are in the clamps, if so, that would make a differenceby Tekwizard - General
Thanks Bob, I get it now. It's the button that says "formatted code". I was looking for something I had to do in Openscad. I'm going to try and print the impeller tomorrow and it should take all day. If it turns out ok, I'll post a photo of it. Jonby Tekwizard - General

Well, I sure am glad to hear that it is not just my machine. I know that plastic will conduct if the voltage is high enough, and turning on a spool can generate that. My spool is suspended from the ceiling 4 feet above the printer. I too am using a laptop (netbook actually) but I think that it might be the Arduino that is locking up. I guess I could link every metal object in the printer togeby Tekwizard - General
Here is the code that I created to show roughly how the blades are meant to look. (One blade is made to look like I'm after). Obviously the thing would be horribly unbalanced if I tried to just chop away pieces and eyeball where to translate them to. I used three cubes to try and smooth the back side of the blade a bit, but of course I'd like to make it very smooth. Would I use the "for"statementby Tekwizard - General

First of all, thanks for the help I've been getting with Openscad. I'm trying to learn it because I believe it is the way to go, but of course the manual isn't self explanitory, at least not to me. I am trying to design a horizontal windmill, of sorts (try the code below). I have a quick question about Openscad and since most of the knowledgable people are in this forum, I'm asking it here. I sometimes try to add to an object after doing a some subtracting and it just doesn't work. I'll create, say, a cube, and then I'll subtract a whole bunch of shapes from it, then, I'll try to add a few objects to that result to get what I'm after. The trouble is that things jby Tekwizard - General

I seem to have some kind of ground loop in my Mendal. Sometimes, I'll walk up to the printer and touch the filament while it is printing and the machine will stop printing and everything freezes up, including the Ramps and Arduino. Nothing gets damaged and is fine after I reboot everything, but I've lost many a half finished print this way. I thought that I had it sorted out after I wrapped someby Tekwizard - General

Does anyone know why "thrown Together" doesn't always work in Openscad? Sometimes it works great, and if I save the file between changes, I can see each move I make. But other times, like today, clicking on Thrown Together causes the render to completly disappear. I seems to be erratic and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when it does or doesn't work...by Tekwizard - General
