I redesigned and printed something like this with double loops for aluminum extrusions. It made a noticeable difference. I will post the files if anyone is interested. www.thingiverse.com/thing:92776by TheyCallMeJohn - General
I noticed the same thing at several booths, especially Inventapart. They had a model of rook where the top showed gaps. Of the smaller companies, I thought Deezmaker had some pretty good parts on display. Did anybody check out the 3D Monstr? I liked the concept but seemed like some parts were way over designed and needs to be cleaned up some. Also maybe someone could explain why you utilize aby TheyCallMeJohn - General
I enjoyed the show but not as much as I was hoping to. IMO it was very crowded on Saturday so it was difficult to get up to some booths. When I was there I thought there would be more printers running and more maker level printer companies. (i.e. Type A Machines, Ultimaker, Lulzbot). It was nice to meet some more makers in the area and check out the 3D printed art and medical exhibit. Probablyby TheyCallMeJohn - General
John, I look forward to meeting both you and Steve on Saturday as well as the other individuals you mentioned. I have had the pleasure of meeting me Diego with Deezmakers out at their shop about a month ago. He helped me out of jam when I messed up my aluminum extension and needed a quick replacement. See you all Saturday. Johnby TheyCallMeJohn - General
Yea I am pretty excited. I am still pretty new to 3D printing and I haven't been able to attend any meetup groups yet. Unfortunately I have to work Friday and can only attend Saturday. Wouldn't mind winning one of those 3D printers they are giving away. Davew_tx Do u work for one of the 3D printing companies or a different type of company. I wish the seminars weren't so expensive ( or at leasby TheyCallMeJohn - General
Hey All, I was wondering if anyone else is going to the 3D Printer world expo Friday or Saturday? I have never been to an event like this and I was wondering how many Reprappers will be there. John BTW: I am not a promoter or affiliated with 3DPW Expo.by TheyCallMeJohn - General
I feel you pain, I have done the same thing before (Link). I drove to Deezmakers shop and they had a few in the back room you were able sell. Is this an original or clone? Also is it a 1, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, or 2 version? Some parts carry over several versions other but I don't think the threaded extension is the same for the 1.1 thru 1.3 as the 2. Here are my suggestions. 1) Check out the Lulzbot.coby TheyCallMeJohn - General
With regards to colleges, finish. A good college isn't about teaching you technical information. It is about teaching you how to think analytically, problem solve and overcome challenges as well provide you with the fundamental building blocks to serve you in career. Also I don't know much about your industry as I am an engineer but as someone who has done hiring for several positions here in tby TheyCallMeJohn - General
Quotetjb1 I found that locally and it seems to be roughly the same as the mcmaster stuff, I will go get it and try it out. I'm trying to eliminate my thermocouple swings and there is quite a bit of air around the thermocouple. That's not what I was referring to I was referring to the spark plug anti-seize to put on your threaded components. I personally wouldn't put any of the solidifying putby TheyCallMeJohn - General
Could you put the whole thing in high temp heat shrink tubing (rated to 260C to keep the parts in? It would be kind of an expensive solution unless you could buy it in short pieces.by TheyCallMeJohn - General
I recently had to put a new heater block on my printer after I ruined the old one. While I was doing it I added some Thermal paste from Fry's (I think it was EARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Masscool Stars-700 Thermal Paste. While I didn't record or take any screen shots before, to me it seem like my temp is more consistent. I was warned to make sure not to get the thermal pastby TheyCallMeJohn - General
I wonder if you could bounce a laser off the front and back of it. Like range finder.by TheyCallMeJohn - Controllers
I live in Huntington Beach and just ordered my first printer. I would be down to meetup. I think there is Hackerspace in Pasdena at Deezmaker's Shop (http://deezmaker.com/3d-printing-meetup-monthly-starts-january-6th-2013/) but I haven't gone yet.by TheyCallMeJohn - California / Southern California RepRap Usergroup
Really enjoyed following your build. Can't wait to see the results. Did you draft this all out ahead of time?by TheyCallMeJohn - Reprappers
Well it has been an interesting week. I have been trying to back calculate from the SCAD files to create a Solidworks components of the Greg Wade Extruder. Also I after reading the Reprap Magazine, I found about the Mendel Max and a little research I am considering building MendelMax 2.0 instead of the Prusa I3. The MendelMax 2.0 seems to have a much more rigid frame and a larger print area but lby TheyCallMeJohn - Reprappers
Johnnymoto, I have really enjoyed following your build log. If no one can answer your question here and u can't find it on the Reprap.com site, try checking out the RepRap IRC (http://reprap.org/wiki/IRC). They have been really helpful for me so far.by TheyCallMeJohn - General
Alrighty, thanks for the consideration. I wasn't aware of the difficulties involved.by TheyCallMeJohn - Administration, Announcements, Policy
First of all, I love the RepRap and appreciate the people that work hard to make it possible. I did however have one suggestion, the general forum seems to get crowded with subjects that belong in other forums. Is it possible for administrators to move those threads to the other forums? I have seen this on other forum sites like Cadtutor.net. Thanks for all your help.by TheyCallMeJohn - Administration, Announcements, Policy

Well after going thru the OpenSCAD tutorials and very helpful video series Learning OpenSCAD (Youtube) by James Newton, I thought I had a basic understanding of how it works. (Hopefully enough to generate some STLs) from Joseph Prusa's files. Then it was on to the configuration. Based on the research I have been doing over the last couple weeks, I am currently planning on building something along the lines of the Prusa I3 with a box frame. I think this is in line with my goals of accuracy and large build volume but I am open to suggestions or tweaks. Over the past couple weeks I have completed the Solidworks basic tutorials. I found them to be very informative. I thenby TheyCallMeJohn - Reprappers
I though it would be interesting and valuable to future newcomers to chronicle my journey into 3D printing. By posting this here my hope is to help others who may struggle with the the same decisions and issues that I likely will encounter and hopefully over come. I was inspired to write this after following and reading much of Zacbot build log "zac's Eventorbot build". I appreciate how he creditby TheyCallMeJohn - Reprappers
