That's very reassuring! Incidentally, the Wiki mentions needing 12 volts & 5 Amps here: and later on the same page refers to a 100W power supply being used - hence my confusion! It is also mentioned that you need cabling for the 12 volt supply to the XLR connector that can handle 8 amps under 'Power Cabling' here: Many thanks for your advice, Nophead - I shall source a 60W unit rightby Sven - General Mendel Topics
Mendel nearly ready to go but I'm confused! I see from the Wiki that a 12 volt 5 amp supply is recommended, which seem to be prolific and reasonably priced, but elsewhere I have read the figure of 100 Watts being required? From my (limited!) knowledge of Physics, power in Watts would be 12 x 5 = 60 Watts... I know that I could use a hugely overrated 400W ATX supply, but I prefer the suggestedby Sven - General Mendel Topics
Engadget have a nice write-up on the forthcoming BitsfromBytes model 3000. A bit rich for my blood at £2,000, but might inspire some on the design side...by Sven - General New Machines Topics
Many thanks to all for your help. Replaced 8Mb Graphics card with a 64Mb version and upgraded to Java 6 - all is fine and dandy! Mendel printing here I come!by Sven - RepRap Host
"3D Rage pro AGP 2X Graphics card" Have done some subsequent research; there seems to be an issue with Win XP and DirectX 10 - but no uninstall available.... Svenby Sven - RepRap Host
Ahh...DXDIAG tells me two things! 1 I have version 0.0 installed! 2 That I have a problem with a dll file - gcdef.dll is apparently an old version and may cause problems (no kidding!) Given that I am into unknown territory here, I would be grateful for any help - I have tried the DirectX 10 installer but it just tells me that it has installed...and the original problem persists... Hi Still building Mendel but hoped to get clued up on Host software while I print parts on the Makerbot... All starts well with RepRap Host, but eventually get an error message... 'Unable to create DirectX D3D context. Neither Hardware and Software Renderer are available. Please update your video card drivers. (Which I have done!) and get the latest DirectX (which I have also done!...)by Sven - RepRap Host
Stunning! Hoping to make my own in PLA on my Makerbot - any tips? Do you heat use the foamcore on the heated bed, or just stick it to the platform? Any advice on best temperature, feed speed for PLA? Hope I'm not being too cheeky, but Customs duty on imported parts is horrendous into the UK... Many thanks in advance! Svenby Sven - For Sale
Just a thought.... Makerbot Industries have recently launched their own version of a heated bed, using an etched copper boardm (I have a Makerbot, but no financial interest!) it's just that some of the questions about heat tolerance of pcb's etc have been answered.... Could we scale up their solution for Mendel? Ever hopeful, Svenby Sven - General
