Sally, That is what I was looking for. I will use that resource next time. Thanks Kevin Tby kdtop - General
Sally, I ordered some bolts and they came in the mail yesterday. I haven't had a chance to work on this yet. I appreciate your offer to get me going. For my future reference, is this done on an individual basis? Or do you have a web store front? If so, could you post the URL? Thanks again. Kevin Tby kdtop - General
Thank you for your reply. I just tried there, and most of the "hex" that I see is a counter-sunk head such that it can be screwed in with an Allen wrench (That is what we call a hex driver in the US, I'm not sure if that is a universal name or not). There were a few with a true hex head however, such as here: I think I was searching US Amazon before, which doesn't seem to favor metric fasteby kdtop - General
I guess I am answering my own question, but I have decided to purchase some from Fastenal. I'll post back if they don't work. Kevinby kdtop - General
Update: I have found some at Fastenal ~ Still deciding if these will work...by kdtop - General
Also, any other suggestions also appreciated. Kevinby kdtop - General
Hey all, I have an older Mendel ( ) that looks kind of like this: Though I use only 1 filament, not 3 My extruder drive looks like this: The center shaft of the part (shown below) is a M3 x 25 mm (I think) bolt, with a hex head. That screw part that extends above (in the photo) the hobbed part fits into a bearing to keep the shaft stabilized while turning. My printer is quite oldby kdtop - General
Hey all, I have been working on a soft robot project with parts made with my 3D printer. I have done a write-up about this here: Feedback is always appreciated! Thanks Kevin Tby kdtop - Robots!
Sorry for the delay in reply. I don't get on this forum very much. I am very happy that I was able to help! Kevinby kdtop - Reprappers
@deckingman, I'm curious about why you gave up on the 3 printheads. I suspect that calibration -- getting them all equidistant to bed -- would be a big problem. I mostly would want a 2nd print head to print dissolvable support structures. Regarding the offer for selling your other printer, I don't think that would work well. I live in the US. And if your RepRap is like mine, it would be dby kdtop - General
@frankvdh, thanks for the clarification. I found this lthis where an arduino + RAMPS + LCD for $25. That seems like a lot of electronics for not a lot of money.by kdtop - General
See also my other post. I'm a little fuzzy on nomenclature. Is "RAMPS" a piece of hardware or software? And Marlin is a software version, correct? Thanks Kdtopby kdtop - General
I appreciate everyone's replies. It sounds like people have strong loyalty to various controller boards. I think the Duet board is in my price range, but perhaps not right now, having recently gotten a Taz 6. I like the sound of it being WiFi enabled. Perhaps this can be an upcoming Winter project. Then again, my son might want to take this over, and would be looking for a cheaper solution,by kdtop - General
David, Thanks for the reply. So are controller boards essentially swappable? There doesn't have to be any calibration to the thermister, or the particular stepper motors that my current printer uses? Do you have any recommendation for a particular controller board? I found this page that lists a variety of boards, with widely ranging prices. I also see this page giving repRap electronics aby kdtop - General
Hey all, I have an older RepRap. I think it is the Mendel Tri-color (though I have never taken the extra steps to get more than one filament working). I looks something like this: TriColor My controller board is a RepRap Melzi v2.0 that looks like this: Melzi I recently got an additional 3D printer (a Taz 6), so thought I could now take some risks with my older one. I am interested in tryingby kdtop - General
Thanks for the replies everyone. Looks like this may be more complex than I want to tackle right now. Maybe time for a newer / better printer?? :-) Kevinby kdtop - General

Thanks everyone. I found the bolt online at Fastenal. It was going to be 0.26 for the bolt and $10 for shipping. I was balking at paying that until I found that my small town had a Fastenal store! I bought 5 bolts and it cost me $3. I was satisfied with that. So yesterday I got it all running and run my first print in over a month. Thanks again Kevinby kdtop - General
I have a RepRap Mendel Mono, and I need to purchase a hex bolt that has broken on my machine. I was sent a link to an online store where parts could be order a year or so ago when I was having problems with a torn USB port. But for the life of me, I can't seem to find that old post, and searches of this forum and the internet have not been fruitful. I am in the US, and my local hardware storeby kdtop - General
I had missed your posts. Sorry! I did try super glue, and it wasn't strong enough. I like your idea about heating the bolt up. That is a good idea. And putting a pin through is interesting, but I don't think I have enough precision tools to achieve that one. But as per my other post, another user sent me a replacement, so I should be back in business. Thanks so much for your advice. Keby kdtop - General
User tmorris9 printed one out for me. I just got it today. He is the man! I looks great. I sent him some cash as a thank-you. Thanks so much.by kdtop - General
OK. To print a metallic one on ShapeWays would cost $60. That's too much right now. Is anyone willing to print one for me? I would prefer ABS, but anything would be OK. Any color is OK. Attached is a zip file with the .STL file and my work address. I am willing to reimburse for postage and a reasonable amount for your time and effort. Thanks! Kevinby kdtop - General
Hurray!! Thank you so much! I think I am going to first check on the cost of making a metal one from Shapeways. If that's too expensive, I'll post back to see if I can get anyone to print me one. Thanks again. Kevinby kdtop - General
Thank you for these links. I downloaded the files and imported them into OpenSCAD. They appear to be the correct diameter, and even the correct number of teeth. One has 4 spokes, the other with 5 spokes. My concern is that the center hub of both options is fully the height of the rim, with gears. Below is a photo of my gear. My center hub is about 2 mm below the level of the rim and hasby kdtop - General

Hello all, I have a Rep Rap Mendel Mono. I have had my printer for about a year now, and just recently my extruder gear stripped out. The hex-head slot that the metal bolt fits into at the gear axis doesn't hold strength anymore. I wish I would have noticed this earlier enough that I could have printed out a replacement, but now I'm stuck. I have two problems: 1) find the file to print, andby kdtop - General
Excellent. My heart just sunk when I had this problem. Glad I could help you get back going again. Kevinby kdtop - Reprappers
