so the resin coated fibre filament must be a 1:1 extrusion from the print head, with a cut made for each path drawn. I want one as well. Dont even know what I want to print with it.by mrPrik - General
if it catches on china will clone both machine and filament and suddenly its $300/lb and falling. cant see too many companies investin in it tho personally. a niche market for sure, unfortunately. I want this stuff to be 20pound a kg like PLA. maybe in ten years :|by mrPrik - General
is it possible to form the fibre as it prints? how is it made usually? answer: The process for making carbon fibers is part chemical and part mechanical. The precursor is drawn into long strands or fibers and then heated to a very high temperature (1,000-3,000° C) with-out allowing it to come in contact with oxygen. Without oxygen, the fiber cannot burn. Instead, the high temperature causes theby mrPrik - General
I'd be willing to mod my reprap if I could print kevlar and carbon fibre. could make bullet proof iron man suit the hotend shown 3:08 in the vid is a weird shape. (original vid) it clearly has fan cooling and some other familiar features but has extended heat block and some parts I cant see properly. There are two extruders within the hotend, one is carbon one is nylon. another company preseby mrPrik - General
only send PLA guys the UK is too cold to print ABS No seriously, this sounds like a good application of 3d printing. !!!New wheels for larry the tortoise etc.!!!!! I'm sure there's planty of potential sponsors that would like to have a few press shots of their filament saving kittens. why not also email uk company filaprint.com. Theyre my supplier, based in Essex salesby mrPrik - General
I watch a lot of 3d print videos on youtube. This just appeared Their pre-order site describes kevlar, fiberglass and carbon fiber filament becoming available. Obviously I will not purchase their printer, I will wait for filament prices to dcrease then bust them thru my reprap, but this sounds potentially awesome.by mrPrik - General
can these hotends go up to 300 without melting the ABS fan shield? wanting to be ready for nylon and polycarbonate printingby mrPrik - General
their XXL ramps SD screen is pretty cool, got mine for #22 pounds ebay, its big and blue and i printed a case for it. think its overheated once and gone garbled, overall still working n very pleased.by mrPrik - General
i applied pva-water mix to my mirror glass at 100 instead of 60 degC by accident and it cracked. dont know if pyrex would do any better. its still useable, just has a crack in it.by mrPrik - General
the pattern makes me think of some kind of dragging moving part that is catching and releasing in a cycle, worth checking everything imbetween the filament going in and the build platform in terms of the extrusion process. interesting u'v tried diff extruders with same results, and that extruding from a height gives a uniform shape. looks like either temp fluctuation or mechanical fault anyhow.by mrPrik - General
if you look at the image there is actually a repeating pattern to the lines, have u tried tightening ur timing belts? also gt2 belt is better than the other one in terms of getting smooth movement.by mrPrik - General
is there some kind of blockage in the nozzle? some stories about impurities in chinese plastic etc like metal fragments..by mrPrik - General
turn up to 230 for a more fluid extrusion?by mrPrik - General
i vote 3 to 5 years. its like designing a kickass washing machine only to be told someone has a patent on a drum that contains clothesby mrPrik - General
what control board setup could be used to make the quad-extruder kraken functional on a reprap?by mrPrik - General
yeah i reckon you could get 3 j-heads on an i3 bowden style. Like the mendel max tri color. I;v got some ptfe tubing i'm going to play with when i get the i3 print tested to a good/high quality. i know some kind of slave pololulu (?) board can be used to extend the motor drivers of a ramps setup but I wondr how tough it'd be to home build a ramps type extended pcb (more motors) and attach it to aby mrPrik - General
yeah i'v seen a lot of positive talk about KISSslicer recently. My impression is that it gives a nicer finish than slicer a lot of the time (nowadays). I like the fact there's a 3d view of the objct aswell. (If theres one in slicer i havent noticed it. cura still seems a work in progress, no support for multi extruders either. i def plan to add atleast another extruder to my setup. anyone know aby mrPrik - General
thanks, it was forward spinning. i have labotamised all speeds down to 10mm/s in slicer and that has stabilised it. i think it was some perimeter setting perhaps. doesnt seem to do it when the whole slice is solid, only on infil slices. atleast its printing a test cube fine n i know the issue is probably g-code based. cheersby mrPrik - General
I'v got one more issue to troubleshoot and my printer should work, please help! i'v hand built a box prusa i3 using slic3r and sprinter firmware, standard gregs wade extruder. This issue will just be a numeric setting for some speed somewhere, so pretty easy to fix. problem is , when transitioning to infill from say building a base and first outer wall layer, printer will spin the extruder RIDIby mrPrik - General
In terms of a thriving community driven technology like 3d printing they should be a bit more careful about how general these patents are. its like patenting the genome. BAD for humankind. thats my f-ing genome. I have the god given right to build 3d printersby mrPrik - General
some of the stratasys patent expire 2021by mrPrik - General
Thanks, more searching has revealed that slic3r uses a default 200 degree setting. Sorry pronterface for inaccurate accusations! I;ll make sure I do my share of passing info to newbies to help repay the community, if and when my machine finally prints something. We live in hope.by mrPrik - Reprappers
Any solutions to this 200 degree set problem, its my latest stumbling block. At 200 deg my hotend is too slow to extrude and the hobbed bolt shreds the filament. its v. annoying. heat to 230, click print and it lowers the temp to 200. ? pretty sure this is a pronterface issueby mrPrik - Reprappers
Hi guys, excitingly just got a new OEM style LED power supply 12v 360w 30A i think. Did some resistance tests from earth of plug and all checks out EXCEPT; here it says res between casing and earth plug should be 0. IMPORTANT it says. Mine measures something but it wont settle on a figure. seems approx 70ohm. Its probably my rubbish multimeter. Plugged it in, got 12.1 v and the casing didnt meaby mrPrik - General
yeah i think ur right, stratasys is just acting as top dog. knocking down younger dogs that are getting big enough to challenge for market dominance. reprap is safe for now, until its machines get way more advanced and effective than makerbot which is bound to happen i think because the community can move onto new ideas quicker without having to worry about shifting a backlog of mass-manufactureby mrPrik - General
does stratasys hold uk patents? does their vice grip only apply to US? surely activity like this will push 3d printing development out of the states and into europe and china.by mrPrik - General
In light of stratasys suing UP! Afinia today, asking the question do stratasys hold UK patents? thanksby mrPrik - General
