All, When wiring a j-head do you use high temperature wire running the full length from the board to the resistor in the head? It seems like it would be fine just using short lengths of high temp wire between the connector at the head and the resistor. From the connector back to the board I would think that 14 awg auto wire is sufficient. I'm thinking that XT60 connectors are appropriate forby Dorian - General

I think maybe you are getting some ideas confused. Power consumed does not necessarily equal mechanical output. Anyhoo... when people talk about the mechanical power of a stepper motor, which I think you are asking about, they talk about the holding torque. There is a certain upper end given that you are working within a small mechanical package (the nema 17). There is a page devoted to thisby Dorian - General
Never mind. I figured it out. The two 8mm holes allow you to pass through the wires to the stepper motors and the smaller holes hold zip ties so that you can route wires along the back of the frame. Cool.by Dorian - General Mendel Topics
So on the single sheet frame there are two large holes that look about 8mm. Nothing goes in them. There are also four 3mm holes along the bottom edge. Cause... I dunno... I have never in all of the material that I've unearthed seen anything done with these holes. Did the frame just call out for more holes? Like needing more cow bell. I can tell you what I'm doing. I'm building an i3. The documentation (or lack thereof) is very frustrating. On the other hand, the openscad parts give me a lot of flexibility. I found motors on ebay that kick butt. They have high torque and included heatsinks... dirt cheap. Unfortunately they had 4mm shafts. No problem, I printed custom z motor couplers to tie to the 5mm threaded rod. I aby Dorian - General
Dale, I've got goin on whatever the producer gave me on the spool. Nothing more and nothing less. Is filament tangled on the spool? Sometimes. You betcha. The more I can reduce my margin of error the better.by Dorian - General
From what I've read region plays a part. In some places 3mm filament is cheaper than 1.75mm filament. I think this is a combination of the fact that 3mm is easier to produce and in some areas it is more readily available so the supply side is pushing down the cost. Which x-end are you doing now? Is it the latest from the box-style repository or is it the old vanilla style where the carriage looks like an upside down T? Are you using pla or abs? What are your slicer settings? Here is how I printed the new carriage and it came out okay. 3 loops, 1mm skin thickness, loops go out, 33% infill (straight lines), no support (no struts no grid no skirt) nada.by Dorian - General Mendel Topics

It looks as if most people are using the vanilla parts and simply not trying to figure out these issues. - 12 years agoAll, I have the X-carriage printed from Prusas git repository. I also, have the wades extruder from the same repository with the 50mm hole spacing which is supposed to mount the the carriage. I suppose that this would in fact work, were it not for the fact that there is a rather obvious hobbed bolt that runs through the extruder. Thank you for that resource. The stepper motors I have currently have what appears to be a GT2 pulley of some sort already attached to them, though it only has 15 teeth. Also, it does not have a flange along the top so it seems as if the belt could slip off. The main problem is that the pulley is too far up the shaft. All, I'm in the process of building a prusa i3 using a single sheet aluminum frame. So far it's been a comedy of errors but that's cool because that's all part of the learning process. My latest hiccup is that I purchased 5 awesome Nema 17 motors but they have a 4mm shaft rather than the typical 5mm shaft. I'm working on printing parts for my prusa i3 using a type A machine at work. The whole experience is very educational. The Type A Machine did not include a heated bed. Printing is a nightmare because there's roughly a 20% chance that the first layer will go down right even when you have done everything else correctly. Thereby making the documentation in the git repository positively infuriating. All, I'm currently printing parts for my single sheet prusa i3 aluminum frame. When I look at the documentation in the git repository it seems like you are encouraged to use the same parts now for both the single sheet frame and box style prusa i3. Is this correct? I feel like the z motor mounts would not be secure on the sheet frame because you can only anchor them with a single screw. Can yoby Dorian - General Mendel Topics
