QuoteRad Racer As already suggested heat works really good. Disassemble, and heat, the "heater" and "heat break" assembly with a Bernzomatic or similar torch. When you get it hot both the heat-break and tip will come loose...no problem. With the tip and heat-break removed, continue heating the pieces and literally burn the remaining PLA out of the components.....turning it to ash. From thereby matador - General
QuoteOhmarinus So, when reading here (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/ultimaker/8s1bq_9LsRM), someone states that: QuoteThe propanol/hydroxide solution I think may be one of the best and safest solutions, especially if used with an ultrasonic cleaner. This is very similar to the solution they use to remove supports from commercial FDMs. I haven't dissolved PLA for 3D printing purposes buby matador - General
I have it soaking in some methelyne chloride. Hopefully that will get everything out of there. If not I guess i'll try heating it up again.by matador - General
I have been using an E3D V5 for a few weeks with excellent results. Until now.. my fan on it quit working in the middle of a print and the PLA melted at the top of the hotend causing a backup of filament and it quit extruding. I kept the hot end at about 185 and gently pulled the PLA out from the top of the extruder, but it broke off just below the hobbed bolt. So I took the Gregs extruder off toby matador - General
I bought the filament from MakerFarm. Its a chameleon color, green when cold, yellow when hot. Maybe it just has weird pigments in it causing issues..by matador - General
Thanks Steve, I'll give that a shot. Does the first layer being 50% of of my layer height apply to PLA as well? Im in the process of setting up the auto bed leveling system. That should make things much easierby matador - General
The ABS sticks great with hairspray. Never had a problem with that. Also its super easy to clean up the glass afterward with soap and water. Sometimes I use Methyl Chloride to clean the PLA off of the glass. My only problem seems to be the first 6 or so layers of a print look real nasty. Only happens with ABS. And my bed is level. I use a piece of paper to measure the distance from the nozzle tby matador - General
Im new to the world of 3D printing. I built a Makerfarm Prusa i3 a few weeks ago. I have been starting with PLA and had the printer dialed in perfectly. My prints were beautiful. I figured since it was making great PLA prints I should swap out for some ABS and print out some extra extruder parts for backups. Im having some weird results with ABS. Its printing pretty messy. Does anyone know whyby matador - General
