Is this their "Gen 6" boards they slap in everything? When I was using 3DStuffMaker electronics I came to find out they actively remove the bootloader. This makes it MUCH harder to read and write the chips. I went and bought a USBTiny clone. (https://learn.adafruit.com/usbtinyisp) It will hook up to the boards header pins and gives a USB connection to your computer. It will let you read the firby s10blazed - General
QuoteSketchy28 Do you or anyone here know how to hook up the fan to a switch on the 3DSM Mega Prusa to a controller or something. Its to high all the time and i dont want to buy a manual potentiometer. I run Cura and it cant get to 210 degrees but when i run that stock programe it runs fine from 187-225.Is it a current machine? I checked their website and it looks like they've got a few new revisby s10blazed - General
I have been finishing up converting a 3DStuffMaker Evolution to something of my own design. I swapped over to a Printrboard and added a heat bed. I have been using my own Marlin firmware for awhile, since before the upgrades at least. So things are going good on my first attempt. The axes move nicely, the hot end heats up, but my heat bed is reading temps in the 900s. Then when I went to inveby s10blazed - Controllers
Does anyone have a recommendation for replacement stepper motors? Or at least know what size they are? I'm not at home to measure mine. My X axis has blown on 3 separate boards now. The first time I thought it was a cheap Geeetech replacement I had. Then a replacement 3DSM board blew. Knowing that was too much to be a coincidence I hooked up my original board and blam-o! It died within 30 secby s10blazed - General
I do plan on replacing it. But before that I want to switch this motor for another motor (extruder for example) and run it a bunch of times and see if I can blow another driver. I had checked all of the connections prior to hooking up this new board since the previous one was damaged. Then after the 2nd time, I hooked up an old board with thermistor problems and it blew within minutes too.by s10blazed - Controllers
I have never moved any of the connectors while it was plugged in. I unplug it each time I make a change, but perhaps some caps were still charged? But now I have 3 boards with no X axis movement. 2 OEM and a Geeetech replacement. They all worked with my config for about 2 - 30 minutes. They all failed after my calibrations but before I could print anything. If I put the X connector on the Yby s10blazed - Controllers
I know it's a vague title but I've been having problems with GEN6 boards. I've just had my 2nd one stop working with the X axis. When the board is new I'm able to move it around and level my bed. By the time I run my PID tuning and try to load a file it stops working. I never move it by hand. I've checked all the wiring and it looks ok. If I swap the Y and X I can move it being controlled as Y.by s10blazed - Controllers
Quotenechaus ... no heated bed input .... .Technically it is possible. I had been collecting parts to do this modification, but now have been looking at printerboards from Geeetech. I did just buy a replacement gen6 board from them though... I got a whole 30 seconds of movement on the X axis before it stopped entirely. Geeetech's solution was to send me a new stepper driver, assuming I am willby s10blazed - General

Quotenechaus The only helpful person was jane I think, she was pretty intelligent and fast at troubleshooting...Well that is a surprise to read. She is the one that is giving me the biggest headache. Did you get a disc with your printer? Mine had a few STLs of gears on there. If memory serves me, they were replacement extruder gears. I will check when I get home this evening and see if there was anything else on there that might help you. Also, I encourage anyone who has gone through as much frustration as I have to write a letter to Australia's ACCC. It's their equivalent to the Better Buby s10blazed - General
The 3DStuffMaker Easy Print software is just a re-compiled version of Pronterface. I ditched their version and went with the newest, untouched release. Works great. But I prefer repetier host over that because of the temperature logging. I've always had problems with the temps. I haven't tried Cura.by s10blazed - General
Quotemikefiatx19 ARGH!!!!!! Uploaded the file and it turns out it is the stepper motor thats blown. There was a bad connection of the stepper motor wire and i never noticed. This probably killed the driver. And as the board is a gen6 I am royally screwed. Oh well, new mother board is needed. Thanks for all the support guys. Quotemikefiatx19 Thanks S10blazed, You are awesome. Thanks for the PM. I will flash the unit and report back once i have the full set of arduino files. Sorry i was mistaken when i only asked for the config.h file, i assumed it would be part of a batch of files along with the other arduino setup files. A newbie mistake. Regards MikeWell the config.h is the only thing that is changed on the 3DSMby s10blazed - General
I know what you mean... I 've spent more time trying to fix my printer than actually using it. I'm not familiar with the other printers they sell but I suspect the chassis is the main difference. I'll PM you the info.by s10blazed - General
Which printer do you have? I have the official config.h file for the Evolution. I also have the "updated" stock evolution.hex as well as the backup of the original that came with mine. I've got it setup in Arduino so I can make changes quite easily and push the firmware via programmer.by s10blazed - General
I don't think it differs that much from Gen1, but I am still looking for info about this myself. From what I can tell, the "high performance filament extruder" might just be a bearing upgrade. When I was having problems with my Gen1 extruder I posted about a nice bearing upgrade. The tech guy basically said it was stupid at the time. Now I am assuming they incorporated it into their design.by s10blazed - For Sale
Does anyone in this thread have any 1nf capacitors laying around? Those little buggers seem unusually hard to come across at a reasonable quantity/price. I either have to buy 100 of them, buy more than I need to get a fair price, or spend way too much on a single one. I assume someone here has bought a bunch of them at some point whether they wanted to or not. I can PayPal your fee +shipping riby s10blazed - Next Wave Electronics Working Group
So I think I need to perform this mod to a gen6 board that came with my printer. I don't see a manufacture date on it but I've got all the symptoms (bad temp readings, noisy motors). Does anyone in this thread still have any extra caps? I can't find them at Radio Shack and don't need 10+ of them if I order online.by s10blazed - Next Wave Electronics Working Group
Wow, thank you for posting that. I can't believe I skimmed over it so many times. I thought I read that wiki article top to bottom. I know I read that expansion pin section directly below it a few times. Now I have something else to try. That is more than the tech support have offered.by s10blazed - General
Thanks for the input. Hearing that yours behaves similarly awful makes me feel better. I know I'm not crazy despite how 3DStuffMaker's tech support tries to make it seem. Do you mean their specific gen6 board? (Like a specific production run for 3DSM?) Or gen6 in general? I consider myself a strong tinkerer. I really enjoyed it until recently. Well on another forum I've had almost a dozen people tell me that is not normal. Will it work? Yeah, kinda. But its not right. I can't do PID tuning on a different hot end with readings this far off. I can't do fine calibration with the temp fluctuating as much as it does. Its just frustrating. This thing has been a constant headache and money pit. Is anyone able to send me a screen grab of their temp line at idle? Especially any Evolutions or other gen6 based 3DStuffMaker product. I'm seeing perfectly horizontal lines on other brands. 3DSM support is telling me this tolerance is normal. All my research and evidence so far says differently. Of course, getting 1 single sentence reply per day isn't helping this get resolved, either.by s10blazed - General
Can any of you guys with a 3DStuffMaker post a screen shot of your temp line from Pronterface/Repetier? Both at room temp and heated to your preferred temp, please. I want to compare lines. I've been having trouble for so long with my temps being stable and recently come to think I have a bad electronics board. I was still getting spiky lines with the E3D thermistor. Quotes10blazed I'll pull them apart along the length of the ribbon and see if it makes any difference. Would it still cause interference even if the heater is not active? Well I pulled all of the wires apart and disconnected the heater and fan that were running along side the thermistor wiring in the loom. That still made no difference. I checked for a short in dozens of different positions wiby s10blazed - General
I'll pull them apart along the length of the ribbon and see if it makes any difference. Would it still cause interference even if the heater is not active? EDIT: Also, isn't that's what supposed to happen (at temp)? The thermistor goes down, the hot end goes up. But why it would do that with the heater turned off is confusing to me.by s10blazed - General
Hi guys, I'm hoping someone out there can lend me some advice on how to fix my installation. I started out with a 3DStuffMaker Evolution. I swapped in the E3D and used the stock carriage and wiring. Now my thermistor is reading strange and I cant find the reason why. Here is my temp gauge from Repetier Host when I simply turn on the machine and open the program. Is there any fudge room on the temperature to do the final tightening? I got my hot end together and wired up but my 3DStuffMaker has a max temp limit of 275 set. The directions say 290. At 275 I could not tighten it any more than was already hand tight. Is there a torque spec available for how tight the nozzle should be? I have a tendancy to tighten things WAAAY too much from working on carsby s10blazed - General
Well I bought an E3D hot end after much reading and measuring. From looking at the CAD drawings of the hot end and taking the best measurements from my carriage that I could, I knew it would not be a direct fit. My measurements showed it would work but it would need some trimming and finesse. I'm not sure where I measured poorly, but after I got the hot end in I realized it would need a good bby s10blazed - General
