Hi Jim, I think my build has cost me less than £500 so far (I am in the UK) and I think i have everything, most expensive bits are ;RP parts - mine cost £150 for the cast parts, Electronics also £150, and £50 for the motors, the rest you should be able to get for less than £150 but it will be close, actually the belts can be pricey. I'll have to see if I can put an itemised list together to seeby JSR - General
Has anyone else noticed a problem with the yahoo pipes aggregator, my latest blog updates from the past couple of weeks have not been showing up but I can see my website on the list? http://jsrreprap.blogspot.com/ http://feeds.feedburner.com/JsrsReprapMendel JSRby JSR - General
Hi Sam, Welcome to the community, i reccommend reading the wiki thoroughly. It is also a good idea to look at people's blogs. I am also in the UK and have been building for a short while so you might find my Blog interesting. One thing to point out is that it might cost you more than you think, and be more difficult than you think. But don't let that put you off, I didn't! RepRap Wiki JSR Repby JSR - General
Hi htimstyler, "Hey JSR, where did you get your cast parts from?" I got the cast parts from Joss aka foton (fotonlabs) via ebay. JSRby JSR - General
I have a similar thing. At the moment I have to restart the host software at least once (and usually reset both boards) before the extruder board comms work correctly, I thought I just hadn't worked out the correct starting procedure yet, but maybe it is something more fundamental.by JSR - General
It sounds to me like there must be some sort of short across the thermistor contacts. With mine (I have the techzone too) if I disconnect the therimistor I believe I get a really low reading either 0 or 2°C (this would make sense has high resistance = low temp). If it is not this then it could be that the thermistor look up table is wrong, did you change it from the default? I will check when I gby JSR - General
My estimation would be all the mechanics being RP parts in less than 5 years - see the possibilities of Sarrus linkages - here is a link on thingiverse - or rack and pin. However the electronics are much trickier - we need some complex metallic components. the closest thing to rp motor I have seen is this one. I think this could take closer to 20 years to get something practical, very hard to esby JSR - General
I'm building a Mendel with cast parts. It's definitely a lot work finishing the parts with all the drilling etc. But hopefully once it's built it will be able to print replacement parts for itself. I think this is where there is a flaw with the lasercut version. Follow my progress by viewing the link below. http://jsrreprap.blogspot.com/ JSRby JSR - General
That is fantastic, well done!by JSR - General
Hi, Just started building a Mendel myself as a hobby project. I'm an engineering graduate working as a design engineer but don't have that much "hands on" knowledge. My current status is as follows: Thick sheet: Done - 6mm MDF from B&Q hand cut Thin Sheet: Done - Aluminium drinks can Electronics: Tech Zone Remix ordered off ebay, not delivered yet.
