grrr. Once upon a time I was all set to move to Australia. Could get over driving on the wrong side of the road. But the metric system was too much. The insanity has to stop somewhere!! I suppose a larger part of the problem is that all of my tooling is standard. Lathe, mill, hell even my welding rods are standard sizes. As an American who went to design and engineering schools and spent my years as a machinist, my brain is wired in inches. I can tell you how long an inch or .030 or .015 inches are but, what the heck is a mm? (and don't get me started on quality of US steel vs foreign stuff, especially when is comes to ACME lead screws, etc) So there a switch or something in any of the software so we can useby AndrewSpencer - Repetier

I am so excited about this project! I built a Pursa but my best friend took it with him when he ran away with his GF. I am axnious to build a 3d printer again. (and it think this one is totally amazing!!) As I have no access to 3d printing I have been working on a design that takes no printed parts. Like the arms. Nudel, I am using Autodesk Inventor. Hmm. I can't find the reference file.... boogers. No worries, ultimately I redesigned the whole piece. Most corners are now rounded and all holes are standard sizes. (Love metric fasteners but they are so much more expensive and I haven't a single reem, broach, or drill bit in metric.) I'm working on rebuilding Mendel in my program of choice. Working off of 2d sketches generated from the *.stp file I found that there are very few symmetries in the parts. For example the vertex pieces boundaries are not projected nor are holes centered! Was this on purpose? or just bad drafting? If it was on purpose then WHY??? Thanks! Andrewby AndrewSpencer - General

I used to race Porsches and we had the saying "you have to pay to play". I think that drafting is a similar item. A quality drafting program costs money but it is ultimately worthwhile. Andrewby AndrewSpencer - General

All, I am working on building Mendel. My last step is that I really want to understand the mechanics of the entire process.
