Glad to hear about your undertaking Mike. RepRaps are a lot of fun and from the sounds of things it should be a relatively simple task for you. As far as I am aware there are currently 3 or 4 working RepRaps in Utah. Bill2or3 and I each have one and there are a couple more around Salt Lake and Utah Valley. I am also aware of another 2-3 being built currently around Utah. So feel free to askby Nighthawk - Utah, Salt Lake City RepRap User Group
Most of the regulars on IRC know me by "Sea Shadow" and as I don't really use the alias Nighthawk anymore I was wondering if I could have my forum account edited to reflect the change. I only need my account name changed to "Sea Shadow" so that it no longer is "Nighthawk". I could make a new account with the new name if I need to, but I thought I would just ask here first to see if the change cby Nighthawk - Administration, Announcements, Policy
Hey there! I live in Provo and have a working Mendel that has happily been turning out printed parts for the past while. Check your email for my contact info. -Alexby Nighthawk - Utah, Salt Lake City RepRap User Group
For what its worth, I know that the chip they use is a DS2433 4kb 1 wire EEPROM. Drives my engineering teacher crazy that they charge so much for the filament.by Nighthawk - General
Sorry for the delay in the update, there was quite a build queue for the machine. Anyways just thought I would show you what has been printed so far. Please ignore the first 5 pictures as they were the failed assembly (back before I had the first clue what I was doing).by Nighthawk - 3D Design tools
Well, its almost done. Incase some people haven't figured it out yet, I am designing an RC helicopter from scratch. I will be getting it printed out and if all goes well, will be flying it around eventually. Instead of linkages to control the pitch of the flybar paddles, I will use very thin wire as an experiment of sorts I should get the first set of files queued up for printing tomorrow.by Nighthawk - 3D Design tools
Hello Viktor, Hmmm... that's odd. I updated the PDF again and reuploaded the new version. It seems to work now. It is a 3D PDF so click on the image to manipulate the model and view it from different angles. -Alexby Nighthawk - 3D Design tools
Hmm true, I can see how it doesn't make much sense. Here is a link to the PDF for the new version I am working on (this one should be a working prototype in a week or two).by Nighthawk - 3D Design tools
The spools use 2mm filament. I wouldn't reccomend using the left over material for a reprap or repstrap, but perhaps one could easily "repurpose" the empty spools. It would be a trivial task to convert one to hold your own materials.by Nighthawk - Plastic Extruder Working Group

That only half of it, the "Empty" spools still have well over a hundred feet of materialby Nighthawk - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Sorry for my long absence, I have had quite a few projects in the works lately. First off, thank you Viktor for your help! However, I couldn't get it to work properly but I only spent an hour on it. Anyways, I just thought I would show you the finished prototype. The assembly is inverted and is in the background of the picture. The stator is for a brushless motor I hand rewound from a CD-ROMby Nighthawk - 3D Design tools
It says it is a "Solid ASCII" Here is a link to the .stl Thanks for your help. Alexby Nighthawk - 3D Design tools
I have been using this ever since the company first launched (admittedly its only the free express version). It was easy to learn and doesn what I need. I have used it to create several models that were printed out on a Dimension BST RP machine. But now that I am monkeying around with the reprap host software (build 0.8.1) I can not get it to display anything remotely resembling the designed oby Nighthawk - 3D Design tools
Dang, so really any of the current designs (including the Darwin) are capable of the precision but it really all comes down to the tool head. !Idea! This project seems exactly like something that belongs over at CNC zone with all the other crazy CNC contraptions. I have noticed that the RepRap project gets brought up every now and then, and there seems to be moderate interest. I wouldn't recoby Nighthawk - Reprappers
Thanks for the info! That makes me happy to know that they are able to achieve that type of precision. I talked to the owner of the Dimension BST that I mentioned earlier and it looks like I will be able to print off my own parts at cost so that helps out a bunch. And since I am planning on going with the 400 step motors half stepping looks like it will be able to get me right on top of my accby Nighthawk - Reprappers
Why not use induction heaters? Obviously the viscosity of the material being extruded would be affected by temperature and while nichrome wire offers fairly decent temperature control there are better solutions out there. Why not use an induction heater to heat the barrel? I mean wouldn't this allow for more precise control of temperatures in addition to being able to heat up quicker? Hello everyone, Recently I stumbled across this community and I must say that I am very impressed. I have always been intrigued by rapid prototyping and was looking into the possibility of getting a machine for myself. I came across various groups here and there but nothing really caught my attention and the small spark fire in my brain died down to some embers. Then when I was looking at varby Nighthawk - Reprappers
I am about 45 minutes south of SLC but I have only just discovered this site and am going to be looking into the possibility of building my own. If I can find the appropriate components for the right price then I will make one (I alreay have a source for printing out the first set for myself).by Nighthawk - Utah, Salt Lake City RepRap User Group
