Many thanks for the quick reply. I was wondering about using 12v that but concerned about exceeding the 9v input marked on the breakout board. I have also since worked out that the Vref should be 0.85v. The micro-stepping is 1/16th all switches on. I will try your suggestion and the new vref.by Macflame - General
In the end I used a HC3DPR0038 DRV4988 break out board wired as shown in the attached diagram. I used a 5v outlet on the control board, to power the driver and a LM2596 Power Supply Step Down from the PSU to get the additional 9v I needed for the stepper motor as per wiring instructions. The X motor moved! But unfortunately it noisily 'clunked' along rather than the smooth operation of the otheby Macflame - General
Many thanks for the quick reply. I will have a look at that CNC board. I was hoping not to have to fiddle with the firmware as it is bespoke and uses a strange extension .cbd. I might just have to bite the bullet and use Marlin.by Macflame - General
I have a board which has a dead stepper driver chip. Underneath the driver is a set of pins marked 1. Dir 2. En(able) 3. STP and 4. GND. I just wondered if I could add an external stepper driver to run the x axis stepper motor? On the board manual it does show a 'Large Driver' going to the set of pins (there are four lots of matching pins.). Does anyone know if and how I could do this?by Macflame - General
I bought some TMC2208 to upgrade and old i3 clone thta has been collecting dust. Some motors needed replacing so I bought a complete set of new Nem17 motors. The motors are rated 1.7A. I now know that TMC2208 stepsticks will only handle 1.2A maximum. So I am having a silver/brain fog moment. What do I set the stesticks Vref to? Do I just ramp them up to teir max Vref -10% or what? Note to self.by Macflame - General
Many thanks for sharing. I have just bought a bag of bits that used to be a Huxley. I thought it would be a fun project to see if I could get it going again. There is no controller board or hotend. But I do have a Melzi and screen in my spares box (plus other controllers if necessary.). I am interested to see what other mods you have done to get this intriguing printer going?by Macflame - General
Has anyone tried a Titan Aero with a cloned Titan extruder?by Macflame - General
I realise this is an old thread but I had been trying to track down the manufacturer of the board that my Createbot Mini Touchscreen uses. It turns out it is a Chitu (It is also known as Red Rabbit.). You can download a manual for the board and a slicer. But I have not been able to get the slicer software to install.by Macflame - RAMPS Electronics
I am trying to flash a Makerbase MKS Melzi board that came with a LCD2004 screen and rotary encoder. I can get the LCD screen to work but not the encoder. I think that I may need special firmware for this as the LCD2004 normally comes with a keypad. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have Googled this to death!by Macflame - Reprappers
It somehow reminds me of the gardeners basket known as a trug. So I would call it the Trugg. Great design and I really like the slider idea.by Macflame - Reprappers
I solved my problem. I tapped it into place after putting some PVA glue around the hole at the top of the assembly. It works very well. I did think about putting one at the bottom as well but if the threaded rod wasn't 100% straight it might have caused problems with jamming.by Macflame - Reprappers
Did you get assembly instructions with your frame? I am scratching my head wondering how I am going to fix a nut for the z axis threaded rod. My kit has round holes cut where a hex hole should be. The 5mm nut seems too big to be wedged in. I wondered how you did yours before I take a hammer and try to fit a hex nut in a round hole!by Macflame - Reprappers
If you are using 12v, make sure you have 2 and 3 running to earth. I just joined 2 and 3 with solder so I just had a single earth and a positive running from the board to my ramps.by Macflame - Reprappers
