import Tkinter didn't do anything, which I assume means it's working. Solution to my problem must be the same (or at least very similar" to the original problem that this thread is based on. I think a more detailed description on how to make the necessary changes to my registry and user variables would help. I don't really want to go in and start changing things in my registry without knowing whby kurtis - Skeinforge
Running import tkinter, I get: >>> import tkinter Traceback (most recent call last): File "", line 1, in ImportError: No module named tkinter Seems wrong to me, however I just ran the same thing on my Windows XP where my Skeinforge works fine, and I got the same error, so I don't think that's the source of my problem. Yes, the line at the end of the error message is where I have myby kurtis - Skeinforge

I'm currently having the same problem, or at least a very similar one. I tried following the steps in your solution as best I could (I've never done anything with my registry or environment variables before). I'm running Windows 7 32-bit. I uninstalled everything and installed Python 2.6 and Skeinforge 40 (2-24-2011) and I still get the quick flash of the command window then it disappears. I gby kurtis - Skeinforge
Hi Wade, thanks for the input. Now that I look at it, my nozzle tip is fairly long (about 2mm), and may be another source of my problems. I can see how that could cool the plastic as it is trying to extrude and cause problems. It is also possible that I'm having problems with my thermistor as well. I'll check it out. Part of the trouble is that I didn't build or purchase this extruder myself, soby kurtis - General
I got a more direct answer to the barrel length question here: So, it appears that shorter is better, but not strictly necessary. I think my current barrel is a mess inside with old, charred plastic, and the transition from PTFE to brass isn't quite smooth, so completely new hot end might be the answer. I think I'll try out a bit of everything while I'm at it: The regular and "TZ" barrels, theby kurtis - General
So, shorter is better, but not required? Is it worth cutting the barrel to a shorter length to reduce the chances for problems?by kurtis - Plastic Extruder Working Group
I've noticed that some extruder barrels are 50mm in length, such as ones sold by some of the online suppliers, while the wiki calls for a 32mm barrel length. Does it matter? I'm currently having are hard time getting anything to extrude out the nozzle (0.5mm), so I was wondering if this makes a difference. I'd like to know what barrels/nozzles people are using successfully on Mendel. I think soby kurtis - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Thanks Markus. I have tried different temperatures, and feel tham I'm in the right range. At one point the ABS was coming out brown, so it was starting to burn. Over the whole range of temperatures, I never really got it extruding properly. It would just curl right at the nozzle exit, then jam. My temp sensor is contacting the nozzle head, and is away from the nichrome wire. I am getting a bitby kurtis - General
Thanks Rick. Are those compatible with Mendel? I see the barrels are 50mm in length. That's what I have now, and I feel like it might be too long, based on the build instructions on the Reprap wiki. This is my main concern with my current setup. The Heater Core does look interesting though. It just screws on to the stock barrel? Looks clean and simple, but I imagine it wouldnt be quite as efficiby kurtis - General
I'm having trouble getting ABS to extrude and I'm trying to figure out why. I suspect that it is a heat distribution problem. I will get a little bit of ABS to ooze out once in a while, and sometimes get it to extrude a little, but most of the time nothing comes out no matter how hard I push the filament. From what I've read, the problem might be that the filament is getting soft too high up in tby kurtis - General
I'm finally ready to try my first print, but ran into some problems I've never seen. I was working on a computer with Windows XP and everything was fine and dandy, until the power supply fried and I no longer have access to that computer or drives. So, now I've tried using Windows 7 and Vista, but have been getting the following problems: Lately whenever I try to modify any files, such as renameby kurtis - General
UPDATE: I bought a Sparkfun stepper motor for the extruder and got rid of the big, bulky DC motor that never worked. Once I got that hooked up, I still had some problems getting it to work. It would buzz and whine, but no control. After lots of searching, I finally found this: I had to add an additional wire to ground the extruder to the motherboard, and then the motherboard to the main powerby kurtis - General
Thanks. I'll try it out anyway. While I wait for my new stepper motor, I decided to try uploading Gen3 firmware, which supports the DC motor extruder. After finally solving a persistent compiling error, I got the code uploaded, only to have the RepRap software freeze when I clicked any of the buttons, such as nudge or turn on heat. I then decided to try the ReplicatorG software instead of the Rby kurtis - General
Yes, I have the triangular one. I plan to replace the motor with the stepper and go from there with the existing electronics. As an aside, is the problem with holding the reset button while uploading firmware specific to TechZone boards, or is it independent of manufacturer? Thanks again for all the help. I've been scratching my head over this for a few days.by kurtis - General
Well, that would certainly explain the problem. I'll take a look over at Makerbot. I downloaded everything from here: I used the firmware included, which seems to run the the axes just fine. In the firmware, there are comments which explain what values to change if not using a stepper, which I assumed to imply a DC motor. As I said, everything was sourced and built by someone else and was giveby kurtis - General
I've recently "inherited" an already-assembled Mendel, but have also inherited some of it's problems. Over the past week I've been reading the wiki and searching the forum for a solution, but haven't had any success. I'm currently using TechZone electronics with a DC motor extuder, along with the most recent (stable) RepRap host software and firmware from the RepRap site. The problem is that I hby kurtis - General
