Any interest in having a B/W RUG meetup sometime soon, i.e. within the next week or two?by ata0921 - Baltimore/Wash. DC (and environs) RUG
Hello Everyone! I am organizing the first RepRap Build/Master Class here in the U.S (that I am aware of at least). The date is set for the weekend of June 18th, it will start on Friday evening and carry onto Saturday/Sunday. The cost for the class is $850, this includes ALL COMPONENTS you will need to get a RepRap Prusa Mendel in your home. Food will be provided as well. You will be working sideby ata0921 - Baltimore/Wash. DC (and environs) RUG
Yes I am, changing the baud rate in the host software fixed it for me.by ata0921 - General
Rhys, Yeah, should've reposted after i figured that out. It was indeed the baud rate, changed to 19200 and all was well.by ata0921 - General
Hi all, I just recently switched my printing computer over to a Windows PC (running XP SP3) and have not been able to get RepRap host software to work. I go to open the program and it starts things in the cmd as it shoild, but then it hangs there after posting up "Native lib Version.....Java lib version ...." I am running a RAMPS board, if I disconnect it or change to a different COM port insideby ata0921 - General
Have you guys given RepSnapper a try? Seems like a lot of people have started to catch on with them, using skeinforge to generate g-code and printing with RepSnapper.by ata0921 - General
The Up! blows away the quality of any printer out there right out of the box (coming form an owner of a makerbot, mendel and an Up!). If you want to print things, get an Up!. If you want to spend your time tweaking to print things, get one of the other ones. Being a closed printer, it does get annoying not being able to do certain things you could have on the other printers (change platform/extruby ata0921 - General
Well if the prices keep falling at the rate they are, undercutting and offloading might be a good idea after all. Get "money" while you still can. If you sell more sets than someone who isn't selling as many for a few dollars less, no real harm done, right? It's not like people are selling sets with prices between extremes or anything. Lowest I've seen in $99.95 on eBay, next lowest price was $by ata0921 - General
"MATERIALS ONLY" = just talking about cost of plastic/no longer talking prices. Well aware that there are other costs/factors that go into pricing.by ata0921 - General
Like Adrian has said, there is no money to be made in RepRap (unless you were one of the first few to put sets on eBay, what were they going for $700?). I was just trying to discuss the bare minimum price in which one could sell and still "profit" from given the costs people fix to using/printing with their printers in correlation to what prices were posted as. All good points made above. But baby ata0921 - General
You check out the instructions for the Darwin? Night and day when it comes to the Mendel. I do agree, it can be more user friendly still. But to recoup one's sunk cost doesn't mean to charge a premium just for the sake of that goal. Can we agree that lower costs will be a good thing? Lower costs also lowers barriers of entry and increases willingness to participate. One day maybe things can beby ata0921 - General

I don't think print time comes into consideration other than utilities cost. You simply hit print and walk away to come back to a set of parts (given that you have it tuned to do so). You aren't really doing any work other than pressing a button. You could factor in the time you spent tweaking and clean-up I guess. Not sure how much material it takes to print a Prusa in ABS or PLA, but its not thby ata0921 - General
You can find the older versions of arduino off of the arduino.cc website. It is on the download page underneath the current version. I too was able to load the motherboard firmware with Arduino22, but was only successful with Arduino21 for the extruder board. Not sure what changed between the two versions, but using both solved my problems.by ata0921 - General
I was considering re-designing the drive mechanics of a Mendel/Huxley to use lead screws instead of belts. Well aware of some of the changes that follow with that and all, but has anyone thought about this too? Any work been done/in progress? Or is there a reason no one has thought about it? Costs might go up, but you get more precision. One would have to rework a fair amount of the values to geby ata0921 - General
Solved! Thanks, Bob Morrison. Jerry-rigged up a connector, but would still like to know what kind of wiring/connector you have there in the pic. Thanks again.by ata0921 - General
Yeah, def dont have that hooked up. What are the specs for the proper connectors?by ata0921 - General
I am using Gen 3 electronics. Everything is connected properly and the motor is functional. Should it work the way I am assuming it should. I am running the RepRap host software. If I hit the extrude button, the stepper motor attached to the extruder board should turn, right?by ata0921 - General
So I got everything wired up and connected. I am able to move all the axis, get temperature readings from the extruder thermistor. But I can't get the extruder stepper to move. My method for testing this was to simply hit the extrude button and looking for movement on the extruder. Is there another way to go about this. Firmware loaded without any hitches, I didn't change anything in any of theby ata0921 - General
Seems like several variations have come about since I posted. Search for "Simplified Huxley" on thingiverse and check out eMakershop blog to take a peek at their twist on it. And of course, the previously mentioned Rusty Huxley "Ruxley" is also available. Maybe there is room for improvement still?by ata0921 - Huxley
What could one use to regulate the temperature of the insulated kapton from mcmaster? Seems like the specs would be too much for any electronics out there right now. Unless I am misinformed about current electronics. Here is a link to what I am looking at hereby ata0921 - General
Yeah, right processor type and serial port... Turns out that using an older version of Arduino fixed it tho. I was using Arduino 22 and getting the above errors. When I used Arduino 21, it compiled/uploaded without a hitch.by ata0921 - General
I am trying to load the RepRap firmware onto my extruder board but I get the following errors. Extruder.cpp: In function 'void setup()': Extruder:35: error: 'Serial' was not declared in this scope Extruder.cpp: In member function 'bool intercom::talk()': intercom:55: error: 'Serial' was not declared in this scope Extruder.cpp: In member function 'void intercom::tick()': intercom:176: error: 'Seby ata0921 - General
Just finished my Sells Mendel build and have got everything wired up and running. I was wondering if anyone has a properly configured machine.xml file for running the Mendel with MB firmware and electronics?by ata0921 - General
That was where I started, but I ran into a lot of issues. Certain holes didn't line up with parts, pieces too thin in particular areas and so on (it is still a work in progress tho). So I've been contemplating doing a more direct translation of Prusa's simplifications applied to the Huxley, but I've been seeing a lot of work in simplifying the Huxley and might just do some sort of hybrid adaptatiby ata0921 - Huxley
I've run into a decent amount of snags sampling other people's revision of the Huxley and even more designing my own. The more I work on things/think about it, the more it becomes the Prusa Mendel except for the Huxley. Has anyone done a direct translation like that? If it ain't broke, why fix it? Right? In case you're wondering, I recently just got access to my original account, I am also the sby ata0921 - Huxley
