Getting ready to make a few changes to my A8. Got Drylin brearings, BLTouch, and soon to have a one piece carriage plate on the way. Easy improvements, but after reading a bit more about the BLTouch I'm left with a question about installing it. Prior to purchasing it sounded like it was simply mount it to printer, plug into the Z axis stop header and splice into the ribbon cable for the LCD disby Turk1604 - Prusa i3 and variants

That's kinda what I figured. Might be an issue with the newer or specialized and hybrid filaments, but basic PLA and ABS have been in use long enough for the bugs to have been worked out. I'll start out with a cheap one that's got good reviews to learn with and go from there. Quoteo_lampe PLa is a good choice in general, also for structural parts. But I wouldn't start with black filament. I hadby Turk1604 - General
Bought a used Anet A8 a couple of weeks ago, just about got it ready to print, but need to get filament. Completely new to 3D printing here, but I have read enough to know that I probably want to stick to PLA for now and need 1.75mm filament. Would like to buy a 1 kg spool of black filament through Amazon, but there are too many choices. Even narrowing it down to 4 star or better rating there areby Turk1604 - General
Thanks for the suggestion, RC shop had what I needed. Almost wasn't able to get the connections resoldered though. My soldering iron at the house is a 40w radio shack unit and it didn't get hot enough to even think about soldering the wire. Took it to work to get one of our electricians to solder it. They didn't have time but was able to borrow a 70w iron, it still wasn't hot enough to make a gooby Turk1604 - Prusa i3 and variants
Yeah, we don't have any of that where I work. That said I happen to live about 3 miles down the road from a RC hobby shop. Not sure if they are open during the day or just afternoons and weekends, but I'll swing by tomorrow and see. The 12 awg I have is left over from an auto wiring project. It's a little stiff, but it'll be great for wiring the PSUs and from them to the board and mosfets, basicby Turk1604 - Prusa i3 and variants
Hope I'm posting this in the right place, was hunting for a good forum, then found this place after learning these are referred to as reprap printers. I think this is a Prusa I3 variant, but I'm not even sure about that. New all things 3D printing. Been interested since I first heard about it, but was very low on my to do list. Well I was offered this used Anet A8 last week and at $40 I couldn'tby Turk1604 - Prusa i3 and variants
