Is there anyone in the Perpignan area that has a laser cutter I could use for an hour or so to cut some parts for the Ordbot Hadron I am building? Thanks Geoffby geoffd - General

I have a newly installed Arduino 1.0.5 + Sanguino and I get exactly the same problem with a Generation 6 board. Yet when I use Repetier-Host it can connect to the board, drive it correctly etc. so it is just the Arduino Upload that cannot see it. Geoffby geoffd - Firmware - mainstream and related support
I have just started learning Inventor and I have run into a problem. In inventor, and in Meshlab, the object is orientated with the top as I expect it. When I add it to the platter in Slic3r the object is rotated, to the object is on it's side, and I cannot find a command to rotate it and have the bottom on the bottom, not on it's side. I can find a command to rotate it about a vertical axis,by geoffd - Slic3r
A small disk in the water pump of a friends car cracked. I did an OpenSCAD copy and printed it. So far it has been in his car for 10 months and still working fine.by geoffd - General

Opening your DXF file with QCad I see that you have 2 layers, "0" and "Layer_1", you might need to tell OpenSCAD which layer you want to extrude. From the manual: import_dxf(file = "example009.dxf", layer = "plate"); Geoffby geoffd - 3D Design tools
I would not worry to much over the bushings, I built my Prusa (1) using printed bushings, then later moved to using L8UU linear bearings on hand polished 8mm rod. These I lubricate by spraying PTFE lubricant on to a cloth and rubbing it along the rods at the start of a printing session. My advice would be to use the simplest method for your first printer and once it is up and running and you haby geoffd - General

There are already CNC machine that will cut glass for you, so you can get the accuracy, it's just down to how you wield the tweezers And of course you can't extrude Dichroic because it a flat piece of glass with a pattern attached, if you extruded it you would probably loose the effect. It is an interesting idea, my partner makes fused glass jewellery and the concept of using 3D printing would interest her. However, as glass melts at way above 600 degrees you may have problems building a machine that extrudes at these temperatures. Check out some of the 'molten metal' threads for some ideas. What board are you using? The early Gen6 boards suffered from this problem due to an oscillation in the power circuit. Fixed by adding a 1nf cap acress R12. Geoffby geoffd - General
In Slic3r if you set the temperature to 0 it will expect you to have set the temperature manually and will not insert the 'wait for temperature' command in the gcode. I have a similar problem with an older Gen6 board. The temperature monitor varies by +/- 10 degrees between readings, so it was never stable enough for the firmware to recognise it was ready. Setting it manually and using 0 got aby geoffd - General
I am trying to print the Vertical Prusa X-Axis from Thingiverse and Slic3r is not filling in the bottom 2 layers correctly, it is also not producing lines that extend to circles. It is calibrated correctly as a 0.5mm thin walled object is coming out at 0.57 - 0.6 which a) is fairly close, b) larger than required so the interline spacing should be less. You can see in the attached photo that theby geoffd - Slic3r
One thought on the baud rate, if it is using Marlin as the firmware the baud rate might be 25000, not sure if that would affect the boot loader baud rate though.by geoffd - General
I have set Slic3r's temperature to 0, which disables using the G-Code temperature control and I set manually on the Printer Panel. After reading some of the threads in General I am beginning to wonder if it might be an electronic noise problem on the USB comms. However, it does seem to be consistent. If I leave the machine warming up it often fails, but once up to heat it does not fail when acby geoffd - Repetier
@Bobc What value did you use for the RC pair? Cheers Geoffby geoffd - General
I am running Repetier host on a Mac controlling a Prusa with Gen6 (original) and Marlin. I can set the machine up, i..e. home the axes etc. Set the temperature and print. However sometimes when I am waiting for the machine to get up to the temp I have set at the bottom of the screen appears '1 command waiting' and after that the m/c is hung and the only way out is to disconnect and reconnect, aby geoffd - Repetier
Thank you, that is exactly what I was looking for. Having got use to using Slic3r from an early version I was always used to using the Load/Save menu items and I had never noticed the save/delete icons on the later versions.by geoffd - Repetier
I have been using Slic3r for sometime and the problem is that when I start it up it goes to the last directory I was using. If I save my settings in that directory when I go to the RH-Slic3r tab the 3 drop downs are empty. When I then use the 'Slic3r' button it uses the Slic3r built in defaults. Not what I saved. Which directory do you look at to populate the dropdowns? Geoffby geoffd - Repetier
Hi I have just started to use Repetier and cannot see how to setup the 3 options boxes on the slic3r screen. i.e. how, or where, do I save the Print/Filament/Printer settings so that these three boxes are populated when I access the page. Otherwise I am really impressed with it. Geoffby geoffd - Repetier

For a get started at little cost option you could use a standard digital camera, take a cirlce of photos then feed it through this 123D Catch to produce a 3D stl model. Would get you going while you are waiting to get your own 3D Scanner.
