I'm going to try 3mm ally first, and see how it comes out. I will also drive it straight off the sanguinololu. I'll keep it to 10amps+- I guess it's one of those things that you just need to try..... Thanks for the help!by Lucastar - General
Thanks everyone for the input - its really helpful @Traumflug "It's possible to make an extension board featuring an USB-TTL converter. All the required pins are there." I really like the idea of using gen7, but I must have a single board solution - add-ons simply won't do for me. I see that the FTDI is on the to-do list, so I will be watching the progress of this project closely. I actuallyby Lucastar - General
Thanks everyone for that info - NewPerfection: I've noticed that all the ally clad resistors being used are the HS10 watt or HS15 watt type - does anyone use the HS25? Glyn, I had never seen the Bed link before. Thanks for that. Are the modifications to the Sanguinololu necessary? or will it power the heated be directly? NelsonRap, are you powering directly off a sanguinololu? I've not choby Lucastar - General

Does anyone know how much it would cost for me to manufacture my own Sanguinololu 1.3 ? I can see that a complete kit costs around £95 with pololu's, but I would be interested to make my own... Thanksby Lucastar - General
Hi, can anybody give me a bit of guidance with respect to heated bed resistors? I understand that the ally clad resistors are reliable. I have a sanguinololu controller with an Atx PSU, and wish to heat an 4mm Ally bed to about 60degrees directly from the board. I was thinking that 4 resistors would be enough, (like a Mendel-parts machine) what rating would I need to select? 1 Ohm? also whatby Lucastar - General
They two brass threaded tubes should not be able to contact each other, as there should be a peek 'ledge' in the centre of the tube. There needs be this bridge of peek between the two, otherwise the extruder ally will get too hot and melt the bearing/extruder plastics . I believe that the peek's hole in x-section goes: m6 tapped hole from top to approx halfway down, then either 2 or 3.2mm hoby Lucastar - General Mendel Topics
Ok, So Kooliepup has installed Slic3r - getting closer... http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?mode=attach&id=55914 Just need kliment's Printun now... Iso is (hopefully) coming to try in about a couple of weeks... I would like to add Prusa's calibration script to the final iso. (without the need for an internet connection) I would also like to add basic instructions for configurby Lucastar - General
@destroyer - Ha ha - I don't think my Mrs would be pleased If I start printing in her greenhouse!! Where I work, we have a HP Designjet Color 3D Printer (ABS) and the heated build chamber heats/maintains 99 degrees - we tend to leave it switched on 24/7 whether is being used or not! (crazy, but true..) - point being, surely even pla shouldn't cause any problems at that temp? I saw on hack-a-by Lucastar - General

How about passive solar water heating for the bed? - a water channel matrix under/inside an ally table?by Lucastar - General
That didn't got too well. I typed "I use Pronterface with Sfact. with my gen6 I have found that I don't always like the way slic3r moves between objects. Sfact / Skeinforge seem to produce models a bit 'cleaner' imo. Any cad tweaks are done in Rhino." and got hit with an angry pink box! Its just dawned on me that maybe I should consult the forum with a new topic, Which Software do you use to run your Reprap? But I see that this one has been brewing for a couple of weeks... http://forums.reprap.org/read.php?1,126490,126490#msg-126490 So I will add my piece, and bump it up again.by Lucastar - General
I got slic3r to work in puppy very easily, so that shouldn't pose too much of a problem. I installed Printrun on my version, but I couldn't get it to talk to python - that is more to do with my lack of knowledge than the software though. I use Sfact and Printrun personally, so would love to see those running. As for updating through GIT, I don't really understand the GIt myself - although I'veby Lucastar - General
ah yes, I thought of that too, but couldn't find a linkby Lucastar - General
Well, It seems that RepRapup v0.001 exists now - thanks to Kooliepup on the Puppy Linux forum. It is based on Puppy Slacko, and so far, consists of Python Java JMF OpenSCad Blender RepligatorG ArtOfIllusion Arduino-1.0 AcrobatReader for 3D PDFs Slight problem is that Kooliepup is on a 5gb limited internet connection, so wont be able to do much more, or upload the iso until next month.by Lucastar - General

Oh.... Its so frustrating - I cant get any Lucid version working... Wary/Slacko both work fine, but are not compatible with Ubuntu.. Never had a puppy problem before Back to the puppy forum for me!by Lucastar - General
try flemingcnc.com I don't think that the chassis is the best in the world though - the tensioned X belt pulls the Z axis bearings away from the Z smooth rods due to its design. It does however solve a problem for those who have a CNC router, a bit of time to work out the toolpaths, and want a 3d printer to enjoy!by Lucastar - General
If the commercial aspect of a Reprap kit upsets, then simply don't go there! Build it from raw components and improve it yourself. There are plenty of genuinely 'open' plans currently available to make your own 3d printer without getting involved in 'semi closed' designs. I too am glad that people haven't patented everything. I love open source - i didn't buy a $1500 printer - I copied Adrian'sby Lucastar - General
@Johnrpm, which version did you install Python on?by Lucastar - General
@Johnrpm - I understand... strict orders are... strict orders!!! - and a patio is very useful for the summer! anyway, I just posted this on the puppylinux forum... sorry if it doesn't cover every board, and piece of software, i just typed as it came into my head... of course, feel free to add anything...by Lucastar - General
@Johnrpm - Puppy is very fast - I'm glad you enjoyed it! I've used it on all sorts of machines from pentium233 up. I couldn't get the latest 'lucid' debian version to run on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite pro A200),which is odd, because I've never had any problems with Puppy before. The slackware (slacko) version ran fine - which one did you use? Did you get any reprap software up and runningby Lucastar - General
Oh! You make that sound so easy! Would be nice with a decent reprap desktop image What would anyone else like to see on the disc?by Lucastar - General
Its gotta be accurate really.. if the holes are not correct, the rest can't be trusted!by Lucastar - General
I need to know exactly where the usb socket/power connector is in relation to the board, and how high it is from the surface of the board - an accurate end elevation would suffice....by Lucastar - General
Hi Nudel usb would be fine - I have used puppy on a usb, and a CF card as well as a CD - problem with USB is that some older machines dont usb boot. I have got around this with plop boot manager, but I have to have that on a CD - so might as well just have REPRAPuppy (?) on a CD as a basic setup. - lets face it CDs are cheap enough. A while ago, I used a live Linux boot disc called Puppy Linux, which ran really quickly on older hardware. The whole operating system was 100meg - supplied as a ready to burn iso. It had a fantastic option to allow you to modify the settings, install programs and then burn your entire desktop environment (with along with installed programs) again as a new live boot disc. I believe that The Reprby Lucastar - General
Hi, Does anyone know where I might find a 3d Cad Model of the Sanguinololu 1.3 electronics? Ideally in Rhino's 3dm format, but an stl or pretty much anything would be ok... (i would model it myself, but I don't have one - I use Gen6) Thankyouby Lucastar - General
