I came up with an idea for a toy printer that would cost approx $70 for a compete kit, or less for a self-printed kit. The extruder is a syringe for medium-viscosity materials like silicone, tacky glue, sugar icing, etc. (aka paste extruder or pastruder). It would have cheap geared motors (28BYJ-48) for each of XYZE axes. There would be no limit switches, belts, heaters, etc. I am designing aby mchahn - General
Thanks. Unfortunately plaast polymorph requires heating, which would add too much expense.by mchahn - General
Damn. I was looking at specs for silicone glue and it said "keep away from children". So now my list is down to just tacky glue, whatever that is, and dohvinci play-doh.by mchahn - General
I guess you might be right. I saw shields for the fumes, and glasses for the UV, for sale. :-)by mchahn - General
Dust (or other filler) is a good thing to try for all of the glues I'm trying. Thanks for the idea.by mchahn - General
I've done research on the UV solution. There is glue that is non-smelly according to the product feature list and reviews. Also I've found that UV lights are safe. They are used for psychadelic lighting, nail polish drying, and curing resin of course. The UV that is dangerous if the far-UV that is used to disinfect a room. They are being used for covid. You must leave the room after tuninby mchahn - General
Thanks again. I will try the sanitaire silicone. I was expecting to pause between layers no matter what material I use. They would have to dry. Smelly is no problem, as long as it isn't toxic. I googled "fast drying glue" and found fast-drying tacky glue. I'm hoping tacky glue will allow stacking without too my drying, since it is tacky. It may be hard to dispense. So far I am going to tryby mchahn - General
Yeah, unfortunately UV light is bad for you. That would be a great idea for an adult product. I wonder if there is anything else that could be cured right after printing.by mchahn - General
I just did a quick wikipedia look at fab@home. Fascinating. It was interesting that it mentioned printing play-doh. Hasboro has a hand-held dispenser for kids to draw 3D objects. It doesn't use the same play-doh, but a more liquid version. It is called dohvinci. I wonder if I could use dohvinci play-doh. I don't see how kids buying that product and putting it in the 3D syringe would be anby mchahn - General
I'm designing a toy printer that has normal XYZ axes but a motor-driven syringe for the extruder. It needs to extrude room-temperature glue or glue-like stuff. I'm having trouble finding a glue that dries fast and hard but would not clog up the syringe. Everything needs to be room temperature for kid's safety. Does anyone have any idea what I could use? BTW, it can also dispense stuff like icingby mchahn - General
I take it that X and Y are also not supported?by mchahn - Firmware - Marlin
G29 works well in my setup but "G29 P4 S6000" gives the same results as a plain G29, which is a 3x3 in my case. The options seem to be ignored. Is there something in the marlin firmware that can cause this?by mchahn - Firmware - Marlin
Thanks. I checked and it is also enabled.by mchahn - Firmware - Marlin
I have used m600 on stock cr10 hw/firmware and stock ender 3 hw/firmware with no problem. It still worked when I upgraded both firmware to latest marlin. But now I have upgraded ender 3 to an MKS controller and M600 doesn't work on it. It just seems to be ignored like the option is disabled. I checked and ADVANCED_PAUSE_FEATURE is enabled. Any ideas on what I've done wrong?by mchahn - Firmware - Marlin
Well it wasn't really fixed. It is happening again. I tried everything and then I just gave up and changed the marlin config temp window to +- 10 degrees so it works now staying 10 degrees below what the g-code requests. I set the temp in my slicer to 10 degrees more so it is at the right temp. One of the more confusing problems I've had with any software. Maybe I'll do some marlin debuggingby mchahn - Firmware - Marlin
I fixed my problem by reloading the firmware. I should have tried this earlier but I didn't see how firmware could change. Sorry for any trouble.by mchahn - Firmware - Marlin
I have a problem where the software sets the temp of the hot-end to about 10 degrees C below the target the g-code specifies. This is consistent when set to low or high temps. This is an image of a temp plot from octoprint. I know the hardware is good because the head heats up to the wrong temp with a normal heating curve. The printer had no problems with the same firmware for weeks. Thisby mchahn - Firmware - Marlin
