Hey, one of the HacDC folks here. I'd love to host a DC RepRap/Makerbot/etc gathering at HacDC (in Columbia Heights at 1525 Newton St NW) some time in Feb/March. If you're interested let me know. We have a mostly completed reprap in the space which is undergoing some surgery due to complications (I am not working on it ATM, someone else is) and we have a couple of members with repraps, makerbotby obscurite - Baltimore/Wash. Hi all, We could probably have a meetup at Noisebridge . At Noisebridge w're currently working on a McWire repstrap, which is not yet fully functional. How many would be interested in meeting in about three weeks (late April). -Danielby obscurite - California, San Francisco Bay Area RUG
I've since moved down to San Francisco and I'm trying to assist with a McWire repstrap project. The project is hosted at Noisebridge, a community tech/hacker space. See . If there are any other SF folks who might be interested in stopping by the space please let me know. Also, we're doing quite well on the repstrap, and just have to test the electronics and build the extruder. Help with the extrby obscurite - California, San Francisco Bay Area RUG
Just a quick update. David thanks for the reply. Hopefully we can all collaborate on how to get interdepartmental college projects funded, though it is likely very school-specific. I'm not even sure who's going to fund our project yet - perhaps the clubs and departments themselves. I will go to the wiki in the next couple of days and add some more educational notes. Thanks again Sebastien. Oby obscurite - General
Getting the ball rolling on a Bay Area meetup... * Space - to be determined - maybe tech shop (www.techshop.ws)? * Time - maybe mid December? * Agenda - show and tell, share information/educate, tinker Thoughts? Ideas? Trepidations? Famous quotes? -Danielby obscurite - California, San Francisco Bay Area RUG

Thanks Forrest. My main concern is in having good mentorship and community to get the project moving. For example, for the next week or so I will be going through the reprap host software and firmware code looking for learning opportunities and it would be helpful to have a connection to someone who works on this software to jumpstart this process. I'll keep posting here and try to make some conby obscurite - General
Thanks Forrest, maybe this would be a good match. The question is, how would Tommelise affect the project vs. Darwin? Does Tommelise differ significantly in electronics and software? Would we be diverging from the Darwin project completely? Would our contributions help both projects? Thanks for fielding all the questions. The goal is to have a rotating project with a few contributors at any oneby obscurite - General
Heh, you're right - objectively speaking Santa Rosa is relatively urban and well connected, considering the proximity to the SF Bay. However, as a newcomer who does not yet drive (this is going to happen in the next month hopefully) I've obviously developed a skewed perspective having grown up in NYC. Hopefully I'll get to meet some of the SF Bay area people who are posting to the user group thrby obscurite - General
I'm one of many people who want to do a project at their university. However, I am fairly isolated and don't have all of the expertise needed to get started. Is there enough demand to set up a kind of mentoring program where experienced reprappers hook up with others so they can share the knowledge and spread the message? Santa Rosa here. Glad to see so many bay area reprappers! Hopefully we can learn from each other. I'm starting up a reprap project at Sonoma State University where I'm a student and we should have a kit in progress next semester. I may get my own kit going before then though, especially if I can find some folks nearby to hack with. I'm more of a programmer than a hardware guy though I do know elby obscurite - California, San Francisco Bay Area RUG
