It might be the fact that I don't have a washer on the m4 bolt cap side. I notice that the bolt head is digging into the plastic a bit and this might cause the unevenness that I am observing in the fit, causing the bolt to lean a bit out of "verticallity", if that's a word. I left out the washer because The 16mm m4 bolts that I used were just not long enough to get the assembly like so: Bolt headby hazuki - General Mendel Topics
Hi all. I have a problem with the X belt system. Basically, as the X carriage moves across the x axis, the belt that drives the carriage moves up and down in the z direction due to the fact that some of the bearings that the belt goes around have an axis of rotation that is slightly off from in the z direction. Therefore as the belt is drawn across the bearing, the belt is forced in an upwards orby hazuki - General Mendel Topics
Thanks again for the replies. So I installed new firmware (Sprinter) and had a go at printing. I notice acceleration/deceleration when I move the axes manually or when the machine is moving during a print but not extruding. I don't think I've noticed acceleration when the machine is actually printing. I'm not sure if this is because the acceleration and deceleration phases of each trajectory areby hazuki - General
Thank you. I'll have a go at using acceleration.by hazuki - General
Hi all. I am having a bit of trouble with my Mendel reprap. I have been running at print speeds around 75mm/s. I notice that when I print some parts that have rapid short zig-zag fill patterns, I seem to loose steps on my Y axis because the part becomes shifted in the Y after the current layer. My belts are tight and my motors have enough current without overheating. I have to back off down to abby hazuki - General
Ok thanks guys. I'll try switching out the hot end with one of the makergear hybrids. 420e had an interesting suggestion that I think i'll follow as well.by hazuki - General
I've tried pushing the filament through the extruder by hand. It takes a lot of force to get the plastic through the whole assembly (.5mm nozzle). I am using a PEEK barrel without the PTFE lining. The teeth are not particularly sharp. I am not convinced it is one problem or the other. I've tried buying various hobbed bolts in the past but I've had problems with jamming also. Is there a particularby hazuki - General
I do notice that there is some material in the teeth, but its not much. I have a picture of my extruder here: http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/791/img20110829202742.jpg There is a small amount of white plastic in the teeth. I have read that increasing the tension on the idler block will help with this issue, but if I increase the tension too much, my motors stall and increasing the motor curreby hazuki - General
Hi all. I have a Wade's extruder with a PEEK hot end. I am having the same recurring problem. The extruder keeps jamming. The hobbed bolt that I bought online I noticed had really small teeth so I made by own hobbed bolt by dremeling and filing some new teeth. I noticed that this worked like a charm for a while. A couple of prints after installing the new bolt, the extruder jammed up again. I tooby hazuki - General
I think I may have fixed the problem. The motor went bad. After replacing it with a new one, the problem went away.by hazuki - General
Attached is a screenshot showing how the temperature reading is being screwed up by the motor operation. I have tried changing the RJ45 cable and I tried plugging it into different ports on the motherboard. I have even tried soldering in the optional 100 ohm terminator resistors on both the motherboard and extruder controller to minimize reflections that would upset communications.by hazuki - General
Hi all. I am using the Gen3 electronics on my repstrap. I have an extruder controller 2.2 and a motherboard 1.2 from Makerbot. I am running replicatorg0024 the latest firmware for the electronics. I have this problems where when I try to extrude material (extruder motor forward or reverse), within a couple of seconds after initiating the command, the extruder will halt and the extruder controlleby hazuki - General
Correct. I am of course unplugging power from the board before putting on and taking off the stepper boards.by hazuki - RAMPS Electronics
Hi all. I have the RAMPS1.3 boards from Ultimachine ready to go on my reprap. I have flashed the firmware and I am able to communicate with RepSnapper when there are no stepper boards installed on the shield. The moment I insert one of the stepper boards, the USB connection is apparently lost (I can't find COM3 anymore) and the inserted stepper board starts heating up. I've tested this with all 5by hazuki - RAMPS Electronics
Should I be adjusting the flow/feed rate globally? I notice there is a setting under speed for Bridge feed rate and bridge flow rate multipliers, however those seem to not have any effects when I tried them out.by hazuki - General
Hi all. There are a lot of interesting parts on thingiverse that have areas where a layer is printed onto nothing. That is, there is no support material beneath it. How is this done? I am assuming the material is just stretched across the empty gap? What kind of settings in skeinforge do I need to change in order for my parts to support this? Do I need to lower the flow rate and increase the feedby hazuki - General
Interesting. I'll see if I can put some fans to cool the barrier. Thanksby hazuki - General
Hi all. I have been having the same problem over and over for the past couple of months. I am using Wade's extruder with a modified makerbot hot end (PEEK), After finishing my machine and testing it out, I began to have issues with the filament (ABS) refusing to go through the extruder at some points. Basically after a few minutes of printing, filament no longer flows while the stepper motor andby hazuki - General

I am using the firmware and software that came with reprap-mendel-20100806 which seems to be the latest version. I am using the fiveD firmware and the regular reprap host software. It is strange that I am having this issue because previously I had no problems printing. Until just about a week ago this started happening and I am out of commission since. I'll try changing the baud rate and deletingby hazuki - General
Hi all. I have been having a strange error lately. Seems I cannot go a minute without my machine just stopping in its tracks. Once this happens, I can't resume printing or do anything without power cycling the machine and restarting the reprap host software. Hi all. I bought a hobbed bolt for my Wade's extruder and I am now noticing that there are moments when the filament slips in between the bearing and the hobbed part of the bolt. I observe the slippage happen when the large gear (which is attached to the bolt) is at a specific position. When I open up the extruder I notice there is a lot of material in between the teeth on the bolt. It's as if thby hazuki - General
I am curious about what this is: http://www.makergear.com/products/groovemounts Is the PEEK Groovemount actually the thermal barrier to which the heater barrel screws into? Does this part have the same dimensions as the Makerbot PTFE thermal barrier?by hazuki - General
Thanks for the responses guys. Yes, I am using Wade's extruder with a Makerbot hot end. I am extruding ABS plastic. Where can I get this grooved adapter for the Wade extruder? Right now I have the PTFE attached to the Wade with hi temp epoxy and that seems to work fine. If I switch to the PEEK, do I need the extra support for the heated barrel? Thanks so much.by hazuki - General
I don't see how this is supposed to hold the heater barrel in the PTFE barrier. The heater barrel slips out of the PTFE barrier regardless of what is attached to the heater barrel. It has to due with the high heat and high pressure against the PTFE threads. They eventually fail and the heater barrel is pushed out.by hazuki - General
Would switching to a PEEK barrier fix this?by hazuki - General
Hi all. I am using Wade's extruder and a hot end from makerbot (ptfe). I am having a problem where the heater barrel on the hot end is pushed out of the ptfe barrier. I am running 240 degrees C (abs) and I'd like to maintain a large mass flow rate through the extruder. Does anyone know what I should do about this? Are there better materials for the barrier? Thanks!by hazuki - General
Yes I am wondering this too.by hazuki - General
Can I expect the Reprap software to read the GCODE from the SD card slot on the Gen3 motherboard? Replicatorg has this functionality. I don't see it in the Reprap software.by hazuki - General
