Yes, smell would probably be a problem. Mechanically speaking, is it similar in properties to ABS?by An Original Name - General
Greetings! Curious to see if anyone has tried using polystyrene as a print material, which is the same material used in scale model kits. I have a lot of sprues lying around from various kits, and I'm interested in the idea of recycling them. It melts at around the same temperature as ABS, but it is very brittle. I am also unaware of potential health hazards. Thanks, An Original Nameby An Original Name - General
Alright, I think I got it working. Thanks for everyone's help. For reference, I downloaded the firmware here: and made sure that these three defines in the configuration.h file were set to false: Quote #define X_ENDSTOP_INVERTING false #define Y_ENDSTOP_INVERTING false #define Z_ENDSTOP_INVERTING false Apparently the old firmware that was uploaded to my board had them set to true (which wasby An Original Name - General
Nophead: Yes, they are all moving in the direction of the endstops. This means that the stepper connectors need to be flipped around, correct? *edit* The steppers are now moving in the correct direction. Polygon: I haven't done much messing with the firmware. I have Arduino and Sanguino installed, though. Any pointers on where to start with modifying the code? *edit 2* After some searching onby An Original Name - General
The molex connectors are keyed so they cannot be inserted the wrong way. There is only one endstop per axis. Does this mean they sent me faulty hardware?by An Original Name - General
Hello all, Some of you may have remembered me from last year when I was working on building a RepRap last summer. Well, after being busy with college all year I'm ready to start working on it again this summer and will, hopefully, get it working very soon. There are only a couple hitches still in the way, one of which I will address in this topic. From the topic title, I am using Generation 6 eby An Original Name - General
Just throwing this out there... but maybe your first layer is starting too high, so it's not close enough to stick well to the blue tape.by An Original Name - Reprappers
Well, here's an update.. I was dumb enough not to test DX kapton with a soldering iron first! I put it on my extruder thinking it would work (rated at 300C), but it melted at less than 200C! In addition, as soon as I tested it with a hot soldering iron, it melted instantly. What's weird is that my other roll (which I think was rated at 260C or 200C) actually withstood the soldering iron. The iris box looks much improved from your earlier works! glad to see you're improving it little by little.by An Original Name - Reprappers

Rhmorrison, will hose clamps fix the "typical hot end failure mode"?by An Original Name - General
I think the molds are actually made out of steel or some type of metal. There's a reason it costs so much to make one; it takes a lot of work. half way down the page you can see a lot of examples of molds: QuoteMolds are built through two main methods: standard machining and EDM. Standard Machining, in its conventional form, has historically been the method of building injection molds. Withby An Original Name - Plastic RepRap Parts for Sale
Shouldn't be too bad... It's not that a big machine. Who knows... maybe they'll ship it for free considering the price of the thing.by An Original Name - General
Yeah the kit is good. It's a little more than if you source the parts yourself, but if the stress saved is worth it to you, it's a good option.by An Original Name - General
QuoteDo you guy's think this is a value for money piece of kit ? or a printer with a over priced price tag ? And what do you think of its quality's, compaired to Reprap , Makerbot, BFB ,etc.. It depends... You get better print quality than reprap or makerbot but it's a little pricier. It all depends on if you want to spend the money or not. I don't have the money to buy one, but I heard it getsby An Original Name - General

BZP wears out or something? Gah... Looks like I'll have to go to the hardware store again...by An Original Name - General
You'll need Gen6, a power supply, 4-pin molex connectors for the motors, cables (4 way... is what was recommended to me), the four motors, and opto switches (unless you got the kit here, which includes optos)... oh yeah, you'll need nichrome wire and a thermistor too... did I miss anything?by An Original Name - General
A big advantage to a RepRap is that it can print its own parts, so if a part breaks, you can easily print a new one (or have a spare set handy). However, if a CNC machine has a part break, you'll have to get a new one.by An Original Name - General

The fact is, nobody can tell what Camiel is doing until he hires a PR person. Right now, people have no clue where there orders are at, and as Carlos said, there are some discrepencies in the status of orders; his plastic parts have been in production for more than a month now, which is clearly not right.by An Original Name - General
Quote150 british pounds is WAY overpriced! it's around $320 isn't it? # Actually it's closer to $240, which is not too bad. Besides, it's natural for people to be motivated to make profit on ventures such as this. Maybe not so much here, but elsewhere money is a very good motivator. Actually, the fact that people are making money off of this will probably increase the amount of people that haveby An Original Name - General
What I'm wondering is why he doesn't just hire a PR person to answer emails and other stuff for him. Honestly, customer service comes first! He should know this from all the complaints he's been getting lately!by An Original Name - General

Yeah... powder printers produce a lot weaker parts, though, from what I've heard. I guess it depends on if you want accuracy or strength when choosing between FFF (FDM) and powder.by An Original Name - Reprappers
Is there a risk of the nylon attracting more water after drying? This cheaply available nylon might just open the doors to more widely used 1.75mm filament and, consequently, 0.35mm orifices. This is one step closer to producing better quality objects!by An Original Name - General
There have been a few attempts at getting it going but I haven't heard much.by An Original Name - General
Have you had a chance to test it with ABS, richrap? What were the results? Thanks.by An Original Name - General
I'm not sure I want to go thought all the complicated wiring of setting up those, and I probably won't be ready to set up a heated bed for at least a few more months. I may contact you later to see if you still have them, but in the mean time I've been brain storming. What if instead of using the iron and concrete heating element of the hot plate, we just replace that with a length of nichrome wby An Original Name - General
