Thanks again, Amazon order in, just waiting for the week to begin before I start my next trialsby setherith - Mendel90
Ideal, thank you! Managed to get the prints centred with Skeinforge. Now the age old battle of getting ABS to stick to the bed At least I'm back in familiar territory.by setherith - Mendel90
Hi guys, I desperately need a sanity check on my setup... Pronterface is giving me what I think is accurate manual control. I can home all axis, and move to specific coordinates with G-Code in the console, but everything I slice is causing the printer to start in the bottom (nearest me / front) left corner? Strangely, this seems to be the same in Cura, Slic3r and Skeinforge. After moving housby setherith - Mendel90
Could you copy me your config file? I have a standard Mendel90 (Dibond) that I've recently got out my attic and I can't find the USB thumb drive with all the software onby setherith - Mendel90
Thanks for getting back to me Chris. Will have a look around. Maybe worth changing if my supplier continues to provide my stock on these reels.by setherith - Mendel90
My ABS comes on a relatively small spool, so I've printed a new spindle for the back of my dibond gantry to hold it. But it seems the PTFE is following the form of the tight twists of my ABS and is causing all sorts of problems. Firstly, its interfering with the threaded Z drive, not really a major issue, but it becomes oily and then interferes with the X belt and Z brackets, both are no longer pby setherith - Mendel90
From my experience the gears don't get too hot so your safe using PLA. I printed my spares in PLA as it gives better dimensional accuracy over ABS. But the Wades Extruder body and X-Carriage are right up against the hotend and would need to be printed in ABS. Skeinforge is quite a beast to wrap your mind around, but its the best out there imo for getting accurate prints. But it does need a seriouby setherith - Mendel90
I have also experienced this interupt during prints. I have an old flourescent tube in the room and a desk lamp. Both cause the printer to stop if I turn them on while its printing. The desk lamp has a build in iron core transformer and the induced EM field is within the range of the USB lead. The flourescent tubes starter also seems to be emitting out some EMI too which I might need to take a loby setherith - Mendel90
I'd be interested in the independent version. Considering my printer potentially could be printing from its internal storage rather than from a computer, it would make sense to make the project modular. Printer owners could then operate with or without a computer host I've very interested in this already, not sure about seismic sensors, but I'll look in to them, maybe read a few datasheets and sby setherith - General
I do have a request, I suppose something thats been on my wishlist for a while. I print with ABS quite a bit and in my spare room its not the best ventilation in the world, I have a tendency to sit and watch it print while I design more parts or prep the next run. But thats just a way to pass time while I sit and make sure it doesn't jam (which has been happening a lot lately). I've been considby setherith - General
I use the Skeinforge module ('statistic') and looking at how it calculates the cost, its how I would do it. Basically it comes down to something like: ( (cost / mass) x material density x extuded volume ) + (cost of electricity / hour) x print time My only gripe is with the hardcoded '$' symbol. I prefer to see my costs in '£' rather than dollars but providing you enter your costs as your locby setherith - Mendel90
This is truly inspirational, I have Inventor and a Mendel 90 and to be honest I hadn't even touched on this level of creativity. I feel completely in awe of your design work my friend! I had thought about modding my coffee table with an LED matrix but this makes that project seem like childs play. I think this is something I could enjoy printing and building and would love to give this a go. Juby setherith - Look what I made!
Brilliant! Thanks a million! I adjusted the pulley and it now prints straight up see pictures attached. They are a tight fit, but they fit and are now bedding in nicely!by setherith - Mendel90
Well so far several prints in without the jumper in place and I haven't had a stoppage so I think the first issue is resolved. As for the second issue your assumption was correct, I had a loose pulley, it was able to slip up and down the motor shaft by a couple of millimeters so have tightened it up and am not testing with another print. Will let you know how I get on...by setherith - Mendel90
Excellent Chris thanks again. I found another post last night (thread), about copying the profile as you suggested and now it's working great with ABS. Little scary at first watching the bed heat and then waiting for the head and bed to complete before it starts. If I hadn't have read the start_ABS file before I started I think I would have stopped it thinking it was failing. ABS printing my Xby setherith - Mendel90
I think this resolved my issue: forum thread Just testing it now...by setherith - Mendel90
Thanks this resolves my issue too. I will close out my other threadby setherith - Mendel90
Is there a settings for ABS? I can't seem to setup SF for ABS so don't mind trying another slicer.by setherith - Mendel90
It seems that after wiping out my .skeinforge folder and copying them in from the supplied USB there is no profile for ABS... How on Earth did I get that profile??? Is there a profile I can download to set my M90 up for ABS?by setherith - Mendel90
I'm trying to work in ABS using the supplied profile in Skeinforge but nothing is extruding. The gears are not turning and looking in the file it looks like its missing the E number which I assume is the extrude command. What am I doing wrong? I have attached the gcode if anyone can spare a moment to take a look please.by setherith - Mendel90
I printed the calibration part as per your manual to test my X belt tension and it seems a little better than before (see picture). But its still not 100%, I'm a little worried about over tightening the belt. It's playing a low note when strummed as per your instructions in the build manual.by setherith - Mendel90
Hey Chris, thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I checked my belts and only my X belt was a little slack so I tightened it back up with the adjuster. Not sure if the X belt would have resulted in the Y skewing but I'm about to start another print in a moment so I'll let you know how that turns out. Your right, I thought I had removed the reset jumper but it seems I must have put it back onby setherith - Mendel90
I started printing tonight and about 80% through my build my M90 had stopped?! It was an SD print so no messages on Pronterface and when I went to investigate it seemed that Pronterface was disconnected (but I believe that to be usual). I have no idea why it stopped and was wondering if there was a way to find out? If it helps, it extruded fine after I removed the item from the bed and the failedby setherith - Mendel90
I agree with Neil, you can't beat the quality output from SF with nopheads settings. The maths and core are obviously well polished and I imagine thats were the efforts of the developers has been focused. But I also agree with b8tfk in that SF's interface is truly horrible, the first thing I thought when using it was to redesign it and build it in Java or some other open tool chain. Something thby setherith - Mendel90
BL = Back left BM = Back Middle BR = Back Right Same for Front on FR, FM and FL. FON and FOFF are fan on and fan off for the extruder fan. Origin places the extruder at 0,0,0 in 3D space. You need to have these points for calibration and bed leveling.by setherith - Mendel90
I'm not 100% I don't have it installed on my home computer but I'm sure I've done it from my work machine. I'll need to check. I don't really know a lot about Fusion, but I have heard good stuff about it. Worth a try if you have it installed alreadyby setherith - Mendel90
Autodesk Instructor here... Inventor professional evangelist I have heard good things about Autodesk Inventor Fusion? Its installed alongside your Inventor install if you have at least version 2012. Its built for exactly this reason... its a half way house for Inventor users that need to exchange formats with other CAD packages and does allow some basic manipulation of the model without parametrby setherith - Mendel90
Thanks guys, I'm keep that in mind. I'll have to get some ABS nowby setherith - Mendel90
I built my Mendel90 last week and am really impressed with the quality of the build and the prints that it produces. So thanks nophead I haven't printed any spare parts yet but I feel that the quality is good enough now to start the process. Before I start I assume the parts I have put together to make the printer is PLA but can you confirm this? Also, I was wondering if there are any "plates"by setherith - Mendel90
