Probably, yeah. But I rush into things.... Ollie.by Ollie - General
For anything bigger than the part I'm workin on Brian, I'd agree with yu, but the walls are too thin in my opinion for between centers. Although Mech has a good point, cheers, I'll give it a go Ollie.by Ollie - General
Because my jaws are frankly too long to get a decent, full length grip on the part, because of the ends being later than the middle. So I'm not too sure how I could chuck the part. Ollie.by Ollie - General
Hey Brian, Not tonight unfortunately, not near my scanner or a camera atm, in the morning I can but until then lemme see if I can describe it to u. It's basically a 5cm long cylinder, with each end having a larger diameter than the middle. The end I need to thread is 10mm Dia. And is 6mm long, all of that needs to be threaded correctly with 10mm x1mm pitch, 60 degree thread. There is a hole runby Ollie - General
Use a 4 jaw and an indicator? I got both lyin roundby Ollie - General
Hey VDX and Circuits, I hadn't actually thought of casting a fixing round the part in question. It's only a prototype, so I wasn't going to spend a lot on it, as ive already change the design for 2.0, so i'd've thought an alloy or resin would be a bit much for this first part. However, I see how plaster would be a cheap and easy casting, but has it been tried in a chuck? Surely it would crack aby Ollie - General
Hey guys, Once again I've sorta run into another project of mine where precision is important. So I've decided it's time to start using my tools properly, but searching around, there's no real tips on getting a good, straight thread using a die. Loads for taps tho.. I'm trying to thread a ~6mm long, 10mm thread into some mild steel, unfortunately, because of the parts odd shape I can't fit itby Ollie - General
I find Slic3r has a paddy with some STLs, swapping over to skeinforge seemed to be easier. Ask if u need help in setting it up if u wanna try it. Ollie.by Ollie - General
Jus' tried it. Bummer :/ Gimme a month and I'll make one. Exams take priority unfortunately :/ Ollieby Ollie - General
Hi Kwdelre, I seemed to have roughly the same problem as you a month or two ago. I seemed to fix it by a mix of lowering the temperature down just a tad and increasing the amount skeinforge tells the extruder to retract the filament while moving, theoretically sucking in the plastic while moving. I swapped to using Slic3r round then too, and although it's much simpler than SK, it does the jobby Ollie - General
So I had an old scanner lying around just begging to be dismantled, and I finally had some free time to do just that. And I turned up trumps with some uncracked glass ^_^ But at the moment my printers running PLA onto blue painters tape, not a particularly nice bottom finish, but it does the job. So I was thinking, with exams coming round within the month, I haven't got enought time to make a fuby Ollie - General
Looks like your thermistor table, have you selected the one for your thermistor? Ollieby Ollie - General
Oh if only I had the money :L I'll wait a couple of days and use the school workshops in that case. Cheers, Ollieby Ollie - General
Hi again, So I've finally been getting some decent Pla prints coming off, although the bottom couple of layers seem to be offset in the y axis by about 5mm. Which is covering holes that should be open. I'm gunna hav a go at fixing the slicing software, but in the meantime, any ideas on how to remove these bottom layers? Ollieby Ollie - General
True, and I probably will at some point, but as long as it can get some parts off for a better printer, I'll use my favorite quote, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"by Ollie - General
I may try ramping the temp up by about 10 degrees. And I'm printing at 10mm/s, although upon closer inspection of the tests I printed, they're pretty see-through for 100% fill :/ Oh, and the hot end I'm using is basically what I had lyin around and whacked it in my lathe. It's got a .5mm nozzle And pretty much resembles the Geared extruder nozzle on the Wiki, but With a slightly longer thermal bby Ollie - General
Hi again to one and all, So i finally got round to finishing the hot end on my repstrap, which more or less resembles a prusa/mendel, and i began running some test prints, im runnin a wade's extruder with the recomended steps per mm (which off the top of my head is around the 700 mark), with the pololu set to 16th steps. As you can hopefully see in the picce, im not able to get decent lines, juby Ollie - General
That sounds a pretty good idea, although I think before I get there I'd better recalibrate my wade's extruder, it's not printing lines after the first couple of levels. Only what can be described as evenly spaced globules of modern art... I need to turn up the steps per mm in the firmware I think.by Ollie - General
Yeah, the string has about 3 turns on it, although in one direction the string seems to get slightly stuck and causing a small amount of jitter as it prints, not not alot. I wasnt too sure what to use for the acceleration numbers in the firmware, I'll try turning them down to around 600 and see what happens. Cheers, Ollieby Ollie - General
Gah, umm eBay? The maker gear website? A quick google usually comes up with some good resultsby Ollie - General

Ah, yeah, the repstrap it's slipping on has string as a belt... Yeah, I kno, it's only temporary while I print off another printer, but it works mostly, except for the slipping... I'll get editing then, cheers Billmi. Ollie P.S. for my machine it seems to be g28 to home, just thought I'd let you know just incaseby Ollie - General
I've never seen one, but in theory, couldn't you just get the designs for the 3mm and drill out the hole to well, any required diameter? From what I remember from the plastruder I had, that seems a pretty easy option. Ollie.by Ollie - General
Hi fellow reprappers I'm beginning to see some problems with my x axis slipping and I was wondering if it was possible to home it after every level? As my current setup isn't exactly *ahem* presice and slipping about 10mm to the side after about it's 20th level. I'm using a ramps 1.2 shield configured with Marlin and Pronterface and I'm generally using slic3r for the majority of my prints atm.by Ollie - General
I'm currently using string as my belts on the x and y. Plus a badly made y axis pulley from polymorph, but hey, it works ^.^ Oh, and I used a couple of rolls of duck tape on various parts of my Mendel repstrap, possibly some masking tape too...by Ollie - General

Huh, I didn't think of those two ideas thanks but I think I've got some spare molex connectors round here so I'll try that as a temp fix. Cheers Guys, Ollieby Ollie - General
If your feeling adventurous and waiting for another one, do what i did as a quick fix. Remove all the threads from the insulator leaving just a round rod, then simply press fit it into the brass, put a "shelf" of something under the brass's shoulder with two predrilled holes in, one each side of the brass and with some spare studding clamp the shelf to the carriage of your printer. Although thisby Ollie - General
I like this idea, and have been needing to get round to trying this myself, but havent had the time recently. Just a quick thought, but cant a simple homemade injection-moulding type extruder be used with a die? I mean it may take a few passes through a set of these to get a decent enough uniform cross section, but this could potentially be done overnight in large batches. And who else saw theby Ollie - General
Huh, that would sorta make sense, the solder i use melts ~230, but how would that effect resistance? Surely its attached on not? Although im probably not the best person to quote on that... Oh and Mkouri, i ran out of crimps so started using solder xD but im not anywhere near a diy shop till the weekend. Are there any alternatives? Or cant some homemade ones do till then?
