Sounds right. I'm using pronterface and it has an option to turn off motors. your slicer, see if you can add in a post G code to turn off motors.by anode505 - General
They are using the gun meme. (it IS legal in the US to build your own gun for personal use. You just can't sell/transfer it.) But the REAL story is patten and copyright holders doing the push. ALWAYS think who will profit and who will lose money from something. ALWAYS follow the MONEY.by anode505 - General
Why absolute encoders? simple A B Z incremental seem to be the norm with all the CNC machines I've ever dealt with.by anode505 - General
My Gen 6 is locking up, typically (but not always) on longer prints. The little netbook running the show hasn't had anything new added to it. Ponterface won't respond (think that will be my first change, since it cheap) I usually have to kill it, then unplug/replug the USB cable. then restart ponterface. (I have a few RAMPs on the way, thinking it will be a better route)by anode505 - General
I'm using a netbook (XP) to print also. (might go standalone SD or the RasPi route) The netbook runs either ponterface or Repitler-host (depending on which printer) But I slice (and CAD) on a Mac with Slic3r. (Slicing on the netbook while printing didn't work well for that little machine) All files are stored on a NAS.by anode505 - General
It has a part a little lower down to dial in the steps. Punch in what you asked for, current steps, and what you got and it will give a new step per unit.by anode505 - General
Should be more then enough I'd think. I think its about 15A needed, but you always want some overhead.by anode505 - General
Depends. If its over a weekend, then its understandable (and a weekend 'shifts' since the world is round and has 24 time zones, each using up an hour.) I'd venture a guess that a lot of the reprap 'suppliers' of stuff are small mom-n-pop shops. Sometimes 'life' gets in the way. Of course I hope it all works out well for both buyer and seller. Commissioning a new printer with a RAMPs, (duh) and ran into a snag on the hotend. Last week I had it heat up (and it maintained the temp) and extruded a little bit of goo. Today it won't regulate the temp, it over shot BIG time. 350+C If I give 12VDC it starts to heat up even without being told to. Only change was I had the hot end hanging today to cal the extruder. (didn't want to push-goo)by anode505 - RAMPS Electronics
I tried Pleasant3D, but landed on (for now) Meshlab, since that will let me drag an STL into it. None of the others I tried allowed it. Meshlab is a *tad* overkill for viewing, and has a few things that make it difficult; get a pop-up on each drag-n-drop, and to clear/delete takes two clicks. But its not meant as a viewer. I need to explore what it can do, looks like a lot.by anode505 - General
I've had issues in the past and found that unplugging the USB, then the power, plug the power back in reset button a few time then USB, reset button a few times got things rolling for me. (you may need to adjust the sequence.)by anode505 - General
Well title says most of it. Is there any plug-in to view STLs in coverflow &/or quicklook? (I'm still on snow leopard 10.6.8; can't see a reason spend nearly $400 to upgrade)by anode505 - General
Who's laser you have? Like I said, been a service engineer for 15+ years. Factory trained on one brand, will work on most. Ones I work on *start* at $500K new. They wear out. output couplers were out, lenses wear out, electrodes erode, optics wear out/get the dubi-effect. Turbos crash, etc. I've rebuilt many a resonator. ohioplastics Wrote: ------------------------------------------------by anode505 - General
Back a 100 years ago when I was a copier tech (same process as a laser printer) the fusers were heated by a light bulb.by anode505 - General

Thanks guys! sorry for the delay, got dragged into work numerous times this weekend. I have movement. I see the light at the end of the tunnel, and this time its not a muzzle flashby anode505 - RAMPS Electronics
Oh crud! I found my retract error prob, but forgot what it was. But I think it was something about too small a hole/layer or the like. (or it *might* have been a SAE drawing in a mm system)by anode505 - General
Been a CO2 Laser service engineer for over 15 years now. (1500W-5200W) CO2's wear out. Glass gets coated, if DC the electrodes wear out, the optics get dirty/burned and fatigued. The power supplies, cooling are the killers for cost. The lasers are HORRIBLY inefficient. But fun to see them cut through 3/4" (19mm) stainless steel. I would look at Yags and the new fiber lasers for hobby/smallby anode505 - General
Building a second machine and its about time to try to make things move. When I do a M119 I get either all open or triggered (this with a few jumpers right on the board) Pullups are enabled. I've tried: const bool X_ENDSTOPS_INVERTING = false const bool X_ENDSTOPS_INVERTING = true one results in all open other all closed (with a few jumpers installed) I've wired NC & NO Measuring the pullupby anode505 - RAMPS Electronics
I'm getting this error on a few STLs Can't call method "retract_length" on undefined value at /slic3r.app/Contents/Resources/lib/std/Slic3r/GCode.pm line 258by anode505 - General
Bingo! Thanks (~/library/Application support/Slic3r on the mac.) Nw to find it in Windows (though, the windows machine is a distant secondary) xclusive585 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > On Linux i believe that folder is .slic3r (hidden > folder)by anode505 - General
2 things I'd love for Slic3r is: 1 to be able to export ALL setting in a single bound (I can use 2 different computers) I know you can do the active ones at once. (I ddn't see any files in any folder that seemed to be the paramaters. unless I'm missing something ) 2 have it default to a different output folder. I like to have the STLs in one and a second folder for whats queued up to printby anode505 - General
Just a quick look at the pic/design, can't see them running at a profit, let alone break even, forget a profit. (if they value their time. Which will come into play if they need to hire anyone and actually pay them)by anode505 - General
Great stuff people! (though still a little confused to wich way I will go) I'm used to closed loop systems over this open loop version. But open is a LOT cheaper and easier to code. X&Y aren't nearly as critical. Maybe I'll design a RF touchoff system, not unlike the systems I work on now. (time permitting)by anode505 - General
Which has the best repeatability for keeping the Z zero point steady? (Also any bad reson not to just run a wire to the nozzle and a piece of copper tape on the bed/zero points , and just let the nozzle find home/zero by touching off?)by anode505 - General
Just because you don't *need* an asult rifle isn't a reason to ban them. Hey, you don't *need* that Glock either, a smooth bore musket can work too. One doesn't *need* a TV or microwave oven either. I agree with the 14 rounds part (though anything over 10 is considered high capacity) I was looking at a small .45ACP came in 6 or 10 rounds. I want the 6.
