I have one ramps machine and one gen6 machine. I would _never_ go gen6 again after using ramps, and I'm actually thinking of converting my gen6 to ramps despite the cost. Just like with hot ends - you get what you pay for. Don't nickle and dime yourself out of a properly working machine. Spend it where it counts.by tinyenormous - General Mendel Topics
I think the answer is that ramps 1.4 has a green external header for d9 on the side with all of the other power connections. That is either 5 or 12v, and it has already run through a mosfet so that it has enough current to properly run a motor or a heated bed. If you were to connect it directly to the d9 pin of your arduino (as opposed to the d9 port on the ramps shield) then you would not end uby tinyenormous - RAMPS Electronics
richrap has a great technique where he combines two gcode files created with different settings manually. This is really as simple as cutting and pasting. I would slice it at the regular settings, and then slow it waaay down for the skinny parts of the triangle and slice it again. Look at the model and find out when the base ends, and use that z height to find out when to cut out the back part ofby tinyenormous - Printing
I would like to throw out an alternative solution to the same problem: I would like to have an option / test program to mount an endstop on my extruder temporarily, measure the four corners, and then have it tell me which corner needs to increase or decrease. I would turn a few bolts, and repeat until happy. Either that, or some way to modify the zcode like nophead did in order to make up for iby tinyenormous - General Mendel Topics

I'm in. I'll bring my prusa, and I'll see you at 11! _Ross ps if no one else responds, then this can also be classified as a "people named Ross" meetup.by tinyenormous - Massachusetts, Boston RepRap User Group

I have popped the gears off before with a flat crowbar, a hammer and a nail. I hung the motor by the gear in the v shaped hole in the crowbar and used the hammer and nail to tap down on the center of the shaft. I stood on the other end of the crowbar and I was done pretty quickly.by tinyenormous - Mechanics
I know you seem to be looking at creating the plates from the scad files, but plater.py in pronterface can build plates from stls fairly easily. The scad issue is avoidable provided you have the stl files and dont need to change anything.by tinyenormous - General Mendel Topics
Do you have z lift turned on? That is the only real way you could end up getting backlash in the z direction. Otherwise you are constantly moving in the same direction, so backlash would not rear it's ugly head.by tinyenormous - Slic3r
I printed a few a while ago that had that. Just drill it out when you are done. You'll be fine. I'm printing with one like that right now..by tinyenormous - Slic3r
Do you have all of the other things in your setup correct? I had something similar and it was because I was using a .35 nozzle, but slicing it for a .5 one. I could see the filament diameter (as measured with calipers) also doing something similar.by tinyenormous - Printing

Larry: it seems like no one but me can do friday. So I think that rules out the artisans asylumn. I can do a sunday. If Jeff and his garage are free, then let's start looking at dates! Jeff: is the offer still on the table? If so what Sunday works best and second best for you? Also how much space ca we occupy? Ie should People bring their machines, or just themselves? I'm cross posting just so the people above will hear about this if they are following replies. I'm looking to get reprappers together at artisans asylum in cambridge some friday night in january, 2012. Check out the link above and post if you can make it.by tinyenormous - Massachusetts, Boston RepRap User Group
Hey guys! sparkfun is having their annual free day in less than a week. On Jan 11th you can get $100 in free gear if you get in before their server crashes. They have a motor that looks like it may be up to spec for reprap, and they sell arduino megas as well. I would buy out the whole store if I could. They are a killer company, and free gear is always a good thing! Here is their post about iby tinyenormous - Massachusetts, Boston RepRap User Group

I just got in touch with the nice people over at artisans asylum. They said that chances were pretty high that we could meet up over there, provided we did it on a friday. What does everyone think? Before we get too specific on dates I woul like to know how many people could make it to Cambridge by say, 8 or 9 pm. If we get more than a handful, then let's go ahead and plan a date! Zarquon, I would re-calibrate the amount of plastic coming out of your extruder. The problem may be that you are simply putting too much plastic down. I have had that happen to me before, and then the nozzle would catch on the plastic once it cooled.by tinyenormous - Printing
Peqo The second one is under spec. The first one may work but it is pretty expensive with shipping. Try these from sparkfun. 68 oz-in, 400 steps per rev for $17 and it is from a reputable company too!by tinyenormous - General Mendel Topics
Sound: Two things I just caught myself pining for. 1) I would love it if there was a notes section somewhere. I have a few profiles kicking around, and I would love to be able to tell them apart at a glace w/o comparing settings. 2) is there any chance we can get a dialog box asking for the filename for the gcode? Once again, I'm comparing different settings, so I have to export it and then chby tinyenormous - Slic3r

Hi Ross, I'm not the best to cover this, but I will take a stab at covering the basics. The software toolchain is designed to take a 3d model in as a stl file, convert it to simple commands that the rep rap understands (gcode) and then spoon feed those commands a few at a time to the machine. Things can be simple - replicatorg can take in a stl, handle the gcode comversion and then give it direby tinyenormous - Reprappers
Here goes my entry I have a broken prusa and a makergear prusa kit on the way. I have built and operated a makerbot cupcake. I would love to meet up with others, and hopefully help everyone have better-functioning machines! Yesterday I tried to register on Meetup.com to make a reprap boston group. It costs $12 a month just to see if anyone else is interested! I figured I'll post here and see if there is anyone else in the area who is interested in 3d printing. I know that there are a few other threads with similar thoughts, but they are all really old. If you are interested, and would like to get together, then Posby tinyenormous - Massachusetts, Boston RepRap User Group
I know this is a really quiet place to put something this fleeting, but today Make Magazine is giving away a Thing-O-Matic, and all it takes to enter is a comment on their page! give it a shot. While it isn't a reprap, one of these could put out a lot of parts.by tinyenormous - Massachusetts, Boston RepRap User Group
check out mr kim's 1x2 He has a conveyor belt made from packing tape on one of his versions, and I believe he actually uses it as one of the 3 axis. Strangely enough, he has pulled all of his materials down from youtube, his website is down as well. The reprap page may be the last repository of his design. _Rossby tinyenormous - Huxley
Hey Ross! I'm in Boston. I have a self-sourced prusa that is 90% finished, and a makergear kit on the way. It sounds like you are going as DIY as is possible. Are you building the drivers yourself? If there is one thing that I learned from my first prusa it is that it is _ridiculously_ easy for a self-sourced reprap to run over budget. Keep an eye out for things that are super time intensive andby tinyenormous - General Mendel Topics
Hi everyone! I'm in the process of building a prusa. I'm in boulder. The last post was quite a while ago in this forum. Is there anyone around that has a reprap or is still building one? I know of the one down at club workshop, but I'm not sure who is in charge of it. I don't need parts or anything. I'd just like to shoot the shit with someone who has done it before, and possibly see one printingby tinyenormous - Colorado, Denver RepRap User Group
