As always thanks for your comments and assistance. To close this thread out, Cura through version 13.11 (and possibly 13.12, but toolpath rendering crashes in that version for some reason) slices the part properly. Versions starting with 14.01 do not work. An interesting side note about slicing your models, which I know are optimized for Skeinforge, is that both Slic3r and Cura need to be scaby jamesmoe - Mendel90
Very strange .. indeed that version slices appropriately. The newest does not. I read up on the issue on the OpenScad Git and the issue is closed. Has the fix been implemented?by jamesmoe - Mendel90
I see the issue on github .. but it appears to be closed. Considering that I have the latest version of OpenSCAD .. should it behave correctly??by jamesmoe - Slic3r
I just sliced in cura .. ran the toolpath .. no nut trap. What version of Cura worked for you?by jamesmoe - Mendel90
I am printing the latest parts update my Mendel90. As you can see in the attached render, there is a nut trap on the underside of the top that holds the threaded rod nut. It is covered by a membrane one layer thick on top and bottom of the trap. Apparently in Skeinforge it slices properly, In Slic3r it fills the nut trap in. I am not going back to try to figure out how to slice this in Skeinforgby jamesmoe - Slic3r
This .. is truly .. frustrating. I built a Mendel 90 MDF using the original parts and decided to rebuild the X and Z with the newer parts. I have the same issue with the X ends, and I have not used Skeinforge in so long I don't really want to deal with it. Do you know if Cura slices OK?by jamesmoe - Mendel90
Excellent question. I am using the aluminum extrusion X-carriage. I surmised the J-head mount was for the earlier 1 and 1.1. At this point I am going to just drill the holes. Easier than redesigning the mount myself.by jamesmoe - FoldaRap
I am constructing a foldarap and using the extruder mount for J-Head in the source. This J-Head adapter appears to align with an earlier X Carriage. Is there an alternative hole configuration in the current XSlider and HotEnd Mount? I can just drill some holes, but wondered if someone has an updated J-Head or Mounting Plate?by jamesmoe - FoldaRap
In the STLs I see there are NEMA 17 and NEMA 14 extruders. I understand the NEMA 14 is the standard, but I would actually like to push 3mm and use the NEMA 17. The issue is the Z slider mounts are only there for NEMA 14. Is there alternate sliders for the NEMA 17?by jamesmoe - FoldaRap
I am somewhat curious about this myself. If you look at the wiki .. and some other sources, the Y smooth rods are 370mm .. When you go to the source files on Github in the box_frame\doc directory and reference the manual file .. it clearly states: -2 405mm smooth rods Do we have a authoritative source for the BOM for the Box Frame? I would think it would be the manual file in the Github .. butby jamesmoe - General Mendel Topics
I have been printing with a J-Head MK IV-B from Makerfarm using the latest duct printed from Nophead files. I was having very strange issues so thought to get an alternative hot end. I ordered an official J-Head from hotends.com. J-Head MkV-BV. The specs do not look different in the wiki .. but the Hotends.com J-Head does not protrude below the fan duct. I have not taken it out to measure, butby jamesmoe - Mendel90
Well there we go. The other inputs appear fine. I will just move the hot end temp to Temp2. Thermistor is fine and measures correct. I show the temp on Temp0 if the thermistor is on it or not. I am sure the pins are fried. I have a plan B .. but lesson learned. Thanks.by jamesmoe - RAMPS Electronics
Ramps 1.4 Marlin firmware I decided to add connectors to my extruder stepper, hot end resistor, and thermistor so I can swap out extruders easily. When I wired up the thermistor and thermistor I got them backwards. I briefly exposed the T0 pins on the RAMPs to the heater resistor. No power was going to it obviously because the resistor was hooked up to the T0 pins. The "temp" reported in Prontby jamesmoe - RAMPS Electronics

I can not reconcile what is going on. If I print a plate with, lets say 8, small parts like an action figure, layers misalign. See pic So what do you do? Print a 40mm tall calibration cube. And it comes out PERFECT! See pic Mendel 90 MDF Ramps 1.4 Printing from computer using Pronterface Slic3r Nophead Marlin optimized firmware Belts tight. I printing a whole set of parts for a friend's printer. New fan duct, x-carriage, extruder body, herringbone gears, etc. for updates to my printer. All good. When I try to print a plate with lots of smallish parts I first got X layer shifting. I turned up the pot on the x stepper and that seemed to take care of that .. then y did it .. turned up .. sort of took care of that .. then all seemed welby jamesmoe - Mendel90
Is anyone out there doing it .. and how?by jamesmoe - FoldaRap
I have been printing very successfully with ABS on glass coated with the cheapest extra-hold hairspray I can find. Two coats. My nozzle is .35 and I generally print at .25 layer height. I have; however, successfully gone down to .1. I use the latest Slic3r. I set my bottom layer height also to .25, but in Slic3r I can cause the bottom layer to overextrude to really stick it down. I set the botby jamesmoe - Mendel90
I have a ton of filament that I use in my Mendel90. I don't want to have to use both 1.75 and 3. With a bigger Bowden tube will the extruder push 3mm filament with the NEMA 14 motor? Thanks.by jamesmoe - FoldaRap
Is the Bill of Materials in the Github Repository, or the RepRap Wiki the most accurate? I am finishing my sourcing spreadsheet and there are some discrepancies. Thanks.by jamesmoe - FoldaRap

To run the printer: 1. Operating system + version. Asus Netbook with Adam processor and 2GB of RAM. (Just a piece of junk I had laying around) Windows 7 x32 2. 3D modelling software OpenScad if I am changing someone else's designs (not a programmer so hard for me to get my head around designing my own things from scratch in it) SketchUp if I am designing my own simple objects 3. Anyone design a tool holder to hang on the frame of a M90? It would be handy to have a holder for tweezers, hex wrench, etc. Thought I would ask before drawing one up.by jamesmoe - Mendel90

I built mine from scratch. I have never seen so well put together OpenSCAD automation to pump out perfect parts customized to my parameters. I decided to build mine from MDF since I had a bunch laying around. It is perfectly flat and square. I primed and painted all surfaces and edges to avoid any moisture issues throwing off dimensions. It is rock solid and printing like a champ. The whole tby jamesmoe - Mendel90
