Hi everyone, I am wondering how to attach a makergear hot end to a greg's extruder. I see the hole that the hot end can fit into and I have had some luck with super glue, but it just isn't reliable enough. I see that there are screw holes in the extruder, but the makergear doesn't seem to go in enough in order to use it. Am I missing something? Do people put a plate with a hole in it between theby ambiguousphoton - Plastic Extruder Working Group
I have been thinking about the advantages to a Bowden after seeing the reprap pro use the same style: Since the push seems to be using multiple or mixed colors for prints, I can't help but wonder whether the Bowden style will be dominant in a year or two once things settle out. I can imagine that having a 3 color mixer + white or black would probably require a Bowden style because having 4 motoby ambiguousphoton - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Unfortunately, even though I can read SD cards using the sdrampstest program perfectly, when I load up marlin I get the error: echo: SD init fail This occurs when calling the M21 command. Has anyone run into this?by ambiguousphoton - RAMPS Electronics
Okay, I have it working great now! Here is what I figured out: Test it out on the Arduino board by itself first. Make sure when plugging it in that the bottom two pins go into the ground pins on the right header. To elaborate further, plug it into pins 44-53 and the two ground ones. Formatting the card is really important. There are instructions on how to do it for a mac here: 1) Open Terminaby ambiguousphoton - RAMPS Electronics
Thanks for your response. When you run the sd card program would I expect to get this error if the reader is installed right but it is just missing a sd card? initialization failed. Things to check: * is a card is inserted? * Is your wiring correct? * did you change the chipSelect pin to match your shield or module? I would think that if the sd ramps was working properly, I wouldn't get this eby ambiguousphoton - RAMPS Electronics
Hi Everyone, I bought SD Ramps from Ultimachine for my Ramps 1.4 electronics. I bought a 8 gb san disk card that I would like to use but I am having issues going through this tutorial: It is all soldered okay but when I upload the sample code and just have the sd ramps plugged into the mega 2560, the console in arduino software just displays garbage. The SD ramps card goes green when I insert tby ambiguousphoton - RAMPS Electronics
Hi Everyone, Sorry that I forgot about this post but I still live in Cambridge and I ended up building a rep rap prusa mendel. I'd love to get together if people were interested. Talk to you soon, Stephenby ambiguousphoton - Massachusetts, Boston RepRap User Group
Hi everyone, I installed some z-stabilizers on my prusa mendel the other day: It wobbles less but sometimes when going up and down the motors will stall and make a loud sound. Have other people run into this? It seems like something isn't exactly centered but how can I fix it? I use nophead z couplers instead of the official ones so I hoped it would help.by ambiguousphoton - General Mendel Topics
Hi everyone, I have my printer working quite nicely, but I am having an issue where the top layers aren't finished off nice and uniform but have a similar open structure to when it is printing the middle. I am using pronterface + slic3r and I can see after it printed a part that in pronterface where it shows red traces where it has printed on a layer, that it skipped the corners This actuallyby ambiguousphoton - Slic3r
Yesterday, I was printing out a filament roll holder using mac pronterface + slic3r + sprinter 012855c + ramps 1.4. Things were going great and I had printed the base and started printing the rectangular outline that would eventually have the places for the bearings. At one of the levels, the Y stage didn't move enough and it started printing in mid air. I think this might be due to the accelerby ambiguousphoton - RAMPS Electronics
For being such a densely populated area, I haven't heard anything going on around here. I just built my prusa and would love to swap tips.by ambiguousphoton - Tri-State RUG
Definitely get the double stacked stepper motors. I bought a bunch of used steppers from an MIT flea market that were the smaller kind like you have in that first image and they seemed like they worked but every now and then the couldn't keep up with a signal and would just stall. This turned out to be a huge headache after you already printed 50% of an object and you saw that it was printing tby ambiguousphoton - General
That's a great suggestion! I noticed that the Y motor would just buzz when it got to the point where it was supposed to move. I thought that the gear wasn't secured at first but it didn't appear that shaft was turning without the gear when I looked at it closely. When I loaded up the default values for X and Y, they were 9000 for the max acceleration! (The default acceleration was 3000, maybe Iby ambiguousphoton - Firmware - mainstream and related support
Hi Everyone, I have started using slic3r + pronterface + sprinter + ramps 1.3 and have gotten many nice prints. (Except for the fact that some of my prints don't center and thus run off the edge, but that's another issue.) When I switched over to marlin, I seem to get Y motor skipping like I have in the picture. I started at the lowermost square and every time that it tries to do a bigger move (iby ambiguousphoton - Firmware - mainstream and related support
Hi there, I am using Printrun b2e4c73 and SFACT v42.4.1 (11.09.15). Sorry I am not exactly sure what version of SF but I just downloaded SFACT in the past few weeks so it should be up to date. Thanks!by ambiguousphoton - General Mendel Topics
Sorry I wasn't clear, when I had both set as 100 initially it wasn't centering in the Y which is why I started tinkering with the Y setting. Thanks for your help! Update: I actually just realized that there is a difference in where it centers based on the print. When I printed this tower: using X, Y = 100 it worked fine but when I print this spool holder it freaks out and doesn't center it: Wby ambiguousphoton - General Mendel Topics
Hi everyone, I am super close to having a fully functional prusa mendel but I have been having an issue with centering that I haven't been able to figure out. By default when I press the home button, my printer goes to the lower left of my print surface. I am defining back as where my Y motor is, so when I press +X my print head goes right and +Y causes my print bed to come toward me. When I preby ambiguousphoton - General Mendel Topics
Hi Andrew, Thanks for responding. Just to clarify, if you are extruding and it does it in steps that is due to overheating and not something in the program? I sort of assumed that the pololu drivers got scorching hot over the 30 minutes or so that I was playing around with it, but I guess it is possible that it got that hot within the first few minutes of extruding. Thanks for the reply. I think that it was trying to connect to a different USB port number so that was the issue. I also discovered a few bad solder connections so that helped with another issue where 1 motor wasn't turning. I have one final question now that I am calibrating the axis. When I tell the extruder to extrude 100 mm, the first time it does it continuously but as it gets to the end oby ambiguousphoton - RAMPS Electronics
Just as a reply to my issue, it turned out to be a weak soldering job on the RAMPS board. The end stop seemed to switch designation for some reason but that works too. Fingers crossed for some happy printing!by ambiguousphoton - Reprappers
Did any of you have issues getting the X axis to glide properly? I bought a metric prusa mendel kit and it seems like when you mount the printed pulley backwards that it will tend to track toward the motor until it is rubbing against it. This may be due to having to mount the motor on the linear model opposite what it is on the conventional prusa. I put in 4 washers to try and pull the motor outby ambiguousphoton - Reprappers
Hi everyone, I was using Ramps 1.4 and Sprinter + Pronterface and I was able to get the motors to work. For some reason the end stops seemed to work at one point (plugged into X-, Y-, Z-) but I was double checking the Y and it didn't seem to stop but was grinding it at the end. I got scared and disconnected it from the computer and then unplugged the power+usb. There was no smoke and the stepperby ambiguousphoton - RAMPS Electronics
I bought this kit a few weeks ago and Colin was very fast in shipping it and the printed parts seem very professionally done. There should only be a minimal amount of drilling/sanding. I'll update this once I actually build it, but I am very impressed so far. Thanks!by ambiguousphoton - Plastic RepRap Parts for Sale
