This probably is the article from 2007. I just now read it. haha Still it tells us that "futurists" (at least at that time) underestimate technology in some ways and overestimate it in other ways. 3D printers are cheap and avaliable today for any joe to build/buy and print with, but no way will they be in every modern home by 2015. Manufacturing, at least in the states, is slower, but not nearlyby Sniper4395 - General
Just for arguments sake, couldnt he also use PEEK or even metal tubing? I was under the impression that some people do this for printing at high temps with PC as PTFE will melt at extreme temps.by Sniper4395 - Reprappers
These guys seem to think that 3D printing will be in every home by 2015 and they'll use melted nylon powder as opposed to ABS/PLA filament. Quote3D printing is a mainstream consumer product Until recently, this technology was extremely expensive - upwards of $15,000 per machine - and limited to use in industrial prototyping, product design, medical modeling and architectural models.* However, pby Sniper4395 - General
Read your posts on Printrbottalk. Looks like you havent tried a new USB cord yet. This is a problem that happens often. I've actually been through 4 different USB cords each from a different manufacturer and only 1 works for my Printrboard. If it isnt popping up in New Hardware at all then I'll bet thats the problem. Lets us know how the Azteeg works. So far I've only tried Printrboard and RAMPSby Sniper4395 - General Mendel Topics
Sup guys/gals, Not sure what you call the stringiness, but I've been trying to reduce it with little success. It seems like retraction isn't the only factor here. Any tips? Retraction set to 3mm right now. Tried 4, 5 and 6 but then tiny bits on my prints don't print such as the head of a pawn and header bricks on a rook. Maybe I need to recalibrate the extruder? Unscrew the brass piece from the black plastic piece and replace the plastic tube inside for a smaller one. The inner plastic tube is made up of PTFE or PEEK and can be purchased at most online reprap stores. Try Makerfarm or hotends.com or ultimaker or anywhere.by Sniper4395 - Reprappers
Forgot to post an update here. Sorry! Did finally manage to get it to work with 0022, but that wasnt the major problem. My PSU at the time was acting weird and when I replaced it with a new hacked PSU everything worked fine. I think the power was cutting off at short intervals, sort of "blinking," and it kept the LED green but would cut off connections. Just a guess though. yeah that's probably true Polygonhell, but you can sue for anything in the states and sticking a picture like this on an article thats bound to draw a ton of bad PR is (I hope) obviously a bad idea. One would hope their authors/web designers would put in some consideration when sticking a picture next to it of a companies logo with a printer behind it. Yeah the logo is ON the printer, but it's reby Sniper4395 - General
Makerbot is no longer the Open Source "face" of Reprap. They became strictly a business the second they went CS. In order for a business to survive they need to take some discretion here and there. BBC News probably wouldnt be using a Makerbot picture in their article without direct consent from Makerbot. This is grounds for a lawsuit.by Sniper4395 - General
Sucks to be Makerbot right now. They're just hoarding things and demanding money for it. Where are they gonna get these files to patent protect? How are they going to convince the producers of Slic3r and Skeinforge to implement patent checking tech? Who cares? Plenty of people at ThePirateBay will help if it becomes an issue. Makerbot is just digging a deeper hole with this. inb4 "The end isby Sniper4395 - General

Quote6of1 or the printer knew I was at the hardware store buying a new sledge hammer... I own a Printrboard as well. Gotta turn them pots up about a 5th of a turn to a quarter turn. Just turn on your motors, put your ear close to the motor, turn the pot until you hear the motor humming, then turn back the pot about a milimeter until it stops humming. Awesome! That looks really good. I've done some simple things in Sketchup, but never worked with something as professional as 3DSMax. That is a good tip though and I appreciate the advice. If I'm able to make something worthwhile you'll see it posted here.by Sniper4395 - Object repositories
You looking to source the parts for it yourself locally or buy a kit? Kits like 3dstuffmakers might seem more expensive than building one yourself from scratch (like I did) but you save money in the long run. They are relatively quick and easy to build, with support from the companies if you run into trouble. You could have a very pretty and functional machine a couple of weeks after the kit arby Sniper4395 - General

QuoteXiando There's little need for exotic gasses. If there is, then it kinda fails as a hobbyist pursuit. Not exactly true. You can buy cans of Argon from wine stores. They spray it in their half-empty wine bottles to keep it fresh for a week or two. No more expensive than a can of compressed air from electronic stores for dust removal. Per day. Haha kind of forgot that part. He was improving though, starting at (I think) 5$ revenue a day. The problem is "down time." The only way to compensate for a printer that can only run for 16 hours is to use two printers and printers break down eventually needing repairs that take hours to days to fix. Careful with that. Printing at 250C could damage the PTFE tubing inside the hotend. I think the max it can handle its 260C before it becomes butter, so 250C might soften and deform it over time.by Sniper4395 - Printing
Check out this print. That's some major warping issues. When you get into the big prints then warping becomes so much of a problem that even if you get the print to stick to the bed then the print can warp so much it tears the kaptom tape (or whatever your using) right off the bed, possibly with bits of glass on it! Fun challenge though. Try printing on quarter inch thick steel sheet with wet suby Sniper4395 - General
There are a few products out there worth marketing that already exist on Thingiverse. Have you seen the Geared Heart? Cant seem to find a scan or 3D model of her anywhere. If anyone can find her I'd be very happy, otherwise if you can model her I'd love a quote. If you can scan her then I'd also like a quote depending on how difficult this would be. I've never commissioned a "scan" before, so I'm not sure how that goes. Thank you!by Sniper4395 - Hello. You dont want the print to cool down too much is why, especially right where the tip is at. Near the tip where the hotend is working its' magic the plastic is soft and maleable therefore layers fuse better and the hotend can push through tiny bits of plastic rather than knocking your print off the surface. Letting that cool down too much will cause layer seperation and other nasty things to happby Sniper4395 - Printing
They obviously did switch target audiences with the Rep2, but unsuccesfully IMHO because they failed to ahdere to their primary source of income and made the drastic switch to CS hardware. In other words they dropped US and are now trying to pickup with the 5-Star corporations without first building a fanbase with them or at least supporting their previous source of revenue first.
