Waiting on a USB microscope cam from china. I need to describe it better for sure. I had tried adding a second cooling fan, printing at the hottest temps (pla smoking) , coldest temps (as low as possible before extruder slipping), lowering bed temp to min temp possible before it doesn't hold to bed. I am able to print well as long as area of solid infill is not large. If I watch solid infillby Gibbedy - Reprappers
This one is driving me crazy. Temperature makes no difference. Extrusion rate makes no difference. Layer height makes no difference. Fillament makes no difference ( 3 different colors from bilbyCNC) I have found that areas with less than about 50mm straight runs of the hotend have no issue. It's when the run is long that I have the issue. You can see the last strip of fillament curl up beforeby Gibbedy - Reprappers
If it is definately slipping on the hobbed bolt and not stepper/pinion then i would be cranking the bejeeeses out of the idler untill i got the motor stalled and backing off from there. I've heard having tension too tight can deform filament but i haven't been able to acheive this with my grooved idler. I don't have allot of experience, but allot of opinions.by Gibbedy - General
BilbyCNC's green glow PLA was very weak. There blue standard was also easy to break layers. There white is super strong, but I've just posted about an issue I'm having that may be related to this fillament. Still they're local and quick to deliver.by Gibbedy - Reprappers
Just do a few prints at different heights. I find my .5 nozzle looks best at .1. I usually print at .3 to keep print time down.by Gibbedy - Reprappers
Not enough grunt on your stepper motor perhaps. I would call it a shudder. The only clicking I ever hear is if my hobbed bolt jumps on the pla.by Gibbedy - Reprappers
After changing filament I've been having a problem with top layers causing hotend crashes. It looks like some long runs curl up instead of sticking to infill below. I've been told i can change print speed on the fly. Is it possible to also change extrusion rate, acceleration rate, change layer height? If I could do all this on the fly I think I could solve this and any future trouble I have. Peter. Have you still got any 3mm pla left?by Gibbedy - Australia, Melbourne RUG
Hear hear! Most of the fun for me is in the building and learning. I was amazed 1 hour into use how good the quality of prints are from my reprap prusa.by Gibbedy - General
Is adding sdcard support as easy as ordering one from reprapworld, soldering it on my ramps 1.4 board and changing a line in my sprinter firmware? I was so close to ordering sd last week but I couldn't think why I would need it. I didn't have this problem then. Thanks.by Gibbedy - General
For a while I thought my head must have been crashing, but I caught my printer pausing for 500ms and then continuing as if it had dropped a few steps.. at one point I was looking at pronterface and the line count was going up but my head wasn't moving. It's random when this happens short or long prints. Where do I start with this... get a sd card to and print off that for a while to confirm faby Gibbedy - General
I'm heading straight to IRC for my noob questions. Secrets out now.by Gibbedy - General
Thanks. I ran all my files through netfabb. Sic3r still complains about the interceting facets but they show up in pronterface. I will have to print tonight and see it I can finish the calibration wiki.. But are 3 of the stls in the calibration wiki dodgy or is something else going on here. Should I be making the move to skeinforge?by Gibbedy - General
I am having trouble printing the last part for my filamant spool for my prusa mendel. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:30742 when I slice the spool_axle_holder.stl with slic3r 0.9.3 I get an error "The model has overlapping or self intercecting facets......." When I start to print the second layer looks like it tries todo a massive overhang that fails. I have the same problem with overhang-tby Gibbedy - General
changing perimeters from 3 to 2 fixed my 20mm hollow box. I paused the print after the first layer of bridge. If this look ok to everyone then I'm off to print some parts.by Gibbedy - General
I changed perimters from 2 to three 3 to 2 which made caru's print solid. First layer of bridge is perfect. I'm printing this piece for a filament spool. with infill set to .15 fill density it is lik a wire mesh but allot of the mesh doesn't join. I was watching it when it tried to bridge on the ouside edge of the part about halfway throught the print and it missed again. I'll try the 20mm hoby Gibbedy - General

Caru's test piece printed great. But if I print a part the bridges fail in the same way (the bridge starts in air).by Gibbedy - General

I measure what the header says it should be. I have also tried +-.01 on extrusion multiplier and I still get the same bridge issues. So are you saying slby Gibbedy - General
Got it sorted..by Gibbedy - General
Sorry I should have mentioned. All of the prints shown were done with .4mm layer thickness. Should it be set to this? slic3r is deciding on layer width. The only values I have set are layer thickness, extrusion multiplier and bridge flow ratio. The only other setting I have changed is the retraction speed from 30mm/s to 15mm/s because It was completly skipping some retractions at the default sby Gibbedy - General
Hello. I am printing a filament spool and mount system for my prusa. I've had 3 failed attempts for various reasons and now th print is halve way done I've snapped my filament off due to a tangle. I need to pause, feed new filament in, and restart. How should I best go about this with pronterface? Thanksby Gibbedy - General
Here is a video (of still images with text) showing my results at different bridge ratios. I'm starting to think there is something else wrong as the longest diagonal seems to hold well and I would have thought that would be the toughest to do if bridge flow was wrong. Here is a video of the processby Gibbedy - General
I'll try and sort out my illegal division by zero problem with 0.9.3 tonight and try again, edit: just printed 20mm hollow box with slic3r 0.9.3 and got same result. I'll start increasing the Bridge flow ratio and post a good video of what is happenning if I still have the problem.by Gibbedy - General
What I mean is just before starting the bridge it extrudes around the internal edge of the box. I presume this is meant to stick to the edge of the box but at least two sides always fall in. I've tried bridge rate from .8 to 1.6 in .1 increments and they all look pretty poor. Thanks. Gavin.by Gibbedy - General
So I measure .53 .5 .53 .53 for an average of .5225 A look at the header shows single wall width=.53 At least I feel like I'm on the right track. Edit: It seems when it starts the bridge it is supposed to lay an internal lip around the inside edge of the box, but one or more sides usually drop straight into the box. Then when the diagonal briging starts it just falls in.by Gibbedy - General
Thanks I'll check this now before I print the box for the 9th time today. In desperation I thought I'd try slic3r 0.9.3. Just tried to slice the 20mm-hollow-box and I get an error message "illegal division by zero at ......slic3r/gcode.pm line 177" Now when I run the old 0.7.1 I get windows telling me slic3r has encountered an error.. reboot time.by Gibbedy - General
I haven't even finished calibrating on slic3r 0.7.1 and am wondering if I should be looking at later versions. I'll be interested to see your results.by Gibbedy - General
I'd love to hear about recycling old prints. I've got a bench full of mangled prints from just 2 daysby Gibbedy - General
