I am wondering what the reason is for using belts and pulleys to drive the axis instead of just using simple all thread and a nut. Seems to me the all thread would be cheaper and simpler. Is it not as accurate or something?by GITRDUN - General
I bought the Makergear mendel prusa kit. The one that is completely unassembled all the way down to the RAMPS boards. I have the kit put together mechanically and have the electronics put together. I downloaded the Arduino Mega driver and updated the driver. It loaded the driver fine. When i connect the RAMP board to my PC the green LED flashes twice then some red LED's on the mega board light upby GITRDUN - Reprappers
I found the build instructions for the V1.4 board. .by GITRDUN - RAMPS Electronics
I bought the makergear mendel prusa. I have it assembled and am now starting on the electronics. I bought the build it yourself kit to learn all i can. So i have to solder the parts onto the boards as well. In the instructions it states to solder a total of 9 resistors (two 4.7K and seven 100K) onto the ramps board, my kit only has 5 resistors and the bag wasnt marked so i dont know what resistanby GITRDUN - RAMPS Electronics
You say you are trying to cut the overall costs? I understand trying to improve the quality in everything but that 304SS screw looks like over kill to me. Thats gotta be like 50X more expensive to machine your own screws or have them machined than to buy simple all thread rod. Is the accuracy of a threaded rod not good enough for these machines? Is there any way to change over to inches instead of having to program everything in metrics? I have spent over 20 years programming CNC's and i feel lost trying to think in metric vs inches. Its a pain to have to convert feedrates and such into inches so i can grasp what speed its actually going to run at.by GITRDUN - Slic3r
Forgot to mention the Ramps. I didnt even think of temp sensors. End stops are included with the main board kit, i also have lots of micro switches laying around that are used on CNC's for home out and over travel switches. Thanks.by GITRDUN - Reprappers
I have done a lot of reading and researched as best i can but i want to ask a few questions before i start buying parts. So far i have assembled a list of components that totals up to about $250 for all electronics motors and all. I manage a CNC machine shop and have an electronics stud for a maintenance man who should be able to help with soldering up boards and components. So for the plasticby GITRDUN - Reprappers
Im a newby. Ok i havent even bought my printer yet, im still mulling over which exact model i want. Heres my take on the problems ive ran into so far. I agree there are so many different models and variations its enough to make your head spin. And it is mega confusing to a new comer trying to figure out whats what and whats different about each different model or brand name. Im sure i will be inby GITRDUN - General
Ok. So whats the difference between the Mendel and the Mendel Prusa? I see some used Mendels out there for a reasonable price.by GITRDUN - General
Ok. I think the Prusa looks like a good candidate. Now can i use any type of software i want on any type of machine? Or are you stuck with using only some specific software for each brand of machine?by GITRDUN - General
Aha. Thats the type of finish quality i am looking for. 85megs of G-code is not that large for mold making and 3d machining. So is that just a standard Prusa model or is that a modified model? I have done alot of reading but so much of this hobby seems to be self made or heavily modified machines, its hard to know whats what.by GITRDUN - General
I am ready to get into 3d printing. I am a CNC programmer with 20 years experience and also use CAD/CAM software so i understand the mechanics and automation of how this all works. But i have some questions before i spend my money. I am leaning towards the RepRap Prusa model or Makerbot Thingomatic. I want to be able to print with high accuracy, printing speed isnt really important to me. Iby GITRDUN - General
