I ran windows in bootcamp and got it working....not sure what the problem was...by kwdelre - General
Hi all, So after 5 or 6 days of calibration I got my printer back to normal with new firmware and new slicing programs. I printed a great name tag last night. Then......my laptop crashed (the one I use for printing). So now I am trying to get Repetier host going on my Mac laptop. It connects, and heating the extruder works, but I cannot control the motors at all. No green lights Is there someby kwdelre - General
Wow, I haven't heard of that one. I will certainly give it a try!by kwdelre - General
I am printing a gear and it outlines a tooth on one side, then goes to the other side, then back and so on.....It is really making the print look bad from all the short extrusions and retractions. Logically it seems like the worst way to print the gear. I printed another gear that did the same thing....but at some point in my changing of settings to calibrate it did it right. ie, it created the tby kwdelre - General

Unfortunately it does it at 185 as well. The weird thing is that I didn't have this issue when using the old firmware and RepSnapper. That's why I think it's got to be a setting in the firmware or slic3r. That's all that has changed.....by kwdelre - General
I would be willing to contribute where necessary. (If you need) I work on a cintiq21 in After Effects, Photoshop, and Premiere all day. So I would probably be more help on the production side than the printer. (Still consider myself a newb on 3D printing) - Willby kwdelre - General
Hi there, I recently updated my printer with repitier firmware (thanks to the help of repitier) and have started using Slic3r. I have the extruder calibrated. As I begin the print, the first layer or two looks good, but then the filament starts spewing out faster and 'curly' for the remainder. Almost like it has too much pressure built up in the chamber. I am using PLA and it happens at 190 andby kwdelre - General
ahhh sorry, copied the wrong line. Thank you so much for your help. I have it working somewhat well....still trying to tweak. When I did the calibration method of measuring the filament before and after with a digital caliper, I got it narrowed down to the right setting for my gear ~250. At this setting, and using Slic3r there is just way too much extrusion. I'm not having muchg sucess with adjby kwdelre - General
I believe my botmill came with the a Wade's extruder. (I think you have the same you mentioned) Do you know what your steps are set to for this line: #define ZAXIS_STEPS_PER_MM 3360 I am trying to follow a Slic3r calibration tutorial. Also, are there any other settings in the firmware that I would need to change for my botmill machine? Thanks!by kwdelre - General
Thanks, that helped me understand it better. Do you have any recommended settings documented for skeinforge and/or slic3r that work best with your firmware? I ask because I am getting some drastically different results between the two. thanks!by kwdelre - General
I did run into a weird issue. When I used Repitier with the other firmware, and I would command the printer to extrude for a certain amount at a speed of 220, it did so fine. Now, it won't stop and its cranking that motor fast! I'm thinking maybe there is a setting in the firmware I could change? Any ideas? Thanks!by kwdelre - General
Thanks a lot!!!! I let you know how I come out when I can try adjusting to some of yours. Thanks again!by kwdelre - General
Ahhh, I was putting it in the arduino/cores. You are awesome man, I have it uploaded and working! I am also getting less motor feedback....is that something the firmware could have helped with? Either way, it much more tolerable.by kwdelre - General
I have no clue what Im doing wrong. I followed your instructions in the ReadMe in the boards folder. Does it matter where your firmware folder is located in relation to the arduino files? I've read all the installation documentation and can't find what went wrong. Thanks for the continued help....I'll get this going soon.....by kwdelre - General
When I try to upload I get a string of errors: I must have something wrong of course, hahaha In file included from Commands.cpp:23: /Reptier.h:23:21: error: Arduino.h: No such file or directory In file included from /Reptier.h:28, from Commands.cpp:23: gcode.h:31: error: 'byte' does not name a type gcode.h:32: error: 'byte' does not name a type gcode.h:38: error: 'byte' does noby kwdelre - General
So I have the .pde open in arduino, but no matter which board I select it gives an error. I remember that when I spoke with Botmill they had me download an older, more specific version of Arduino. Could this have anything to do with it? I know the Gen6 board is considered a Sanguino Mega, but which option would that translate to in Arduino's settings? Thanks!by kwdelre - General
@Repetier Thanks for the reply. Love the printer software BTW; just switched last night from RepSnapper. I definitely have a Gen6 board. I will flash the firmware in a little bit....hoping this firware versus what Botmill directed me to is different. Hopefully it will fix the Slic3r issues I am having!by kwdelre - General
Would anyone be willing to post a screen shot of their Slic3r settings? I have tried everything suggested. Now that I lowered the temp to 0, it starts right away, but it lifts the Z-axis by a layer at least right before it starts printing. (why in the world would they program it to do so??) And I cannot find any setting that alleviates this. And the extruder will still not extrude.....guess i hby kwdelre - General
I only use a fan when there are overhangs. When I don't, they tend to curl upwards. I just use a small USB fan next to the printer. I the past when I had a larger hotend I had rigged two small computer fans onto the x carriage. Worked pretty well.by kwdelre - General
I lightly wipe my kapton with goof off and it has never been replaced. (Maybe 80 prints)by kwdelre - General
Hi there, I wanted to piggy back and ask a question along similar lines. I have a printer that I built form the Botmill kit. It's been about 7 months since I did anything with firmware through arduino. I BELIEVE it was Gen6. In another thread I am describing problems with slic3r and the have been some suggestions about my firmware. What firmware would you recommend would be best for my Botmill?by kwdelre - General
Thanks for all the suggestions. I started using Repitier and I like it much better than RepSnapper. I tried some of the suggestions in that blog article but nothing worked. Now the z axis even lifts before starting the print. I have no idea why it is doing that. There must be something else wrong and not the program. It's just one problem after another with slic3r.by kwdelre - General
Roger, Are you using RepSnapper for printing? It doesn't sound like the same program I am using.by kwdelre - General
I have tried setting the temp to as low as 190 in Slic3r and then have it heated up in RepSnapper to 200 prior to starting the print. Any other reliable slice programs out there? Even if I have to buy it....by kwdelre - General
I did notice that as well when researching. I have the latest version of Slic3r released recently......by kwdelre - General
Here is the beginning portion of code that get from slic3r: Any idea why the extruder motor is being used? ; layer_height = 0.4 ; perimeters = 3 ; top_solid_layers = 3 ; bottom_solid_layers = 3 ; fill_density = 0.4 ; perimeter_speed = 30 ; infill_speed = 60 ; travel_speed = 130 ; scale = 1 ; nozzle_diameter = 0.5 ; filament_diameter = 3 ; extrusion_multiplier = 1 ; perimeters extrusion width = 0by kwdelre - General
Thanks for the replys. I was able to delete that line of gcode that makes it wait and it worked. Now, however, the extruder is not being activated. (I am using all default settings, plus the change mentioned.) Any ideas on that?by kwdelre - General
