I've been printing off parts for another Tantillus (Plus) and they've been coming out very nicely so far . For some reason today I've had two different parts start printing upside down. I have no clue what happened - I just slice them with my normal default settings and load them into Pronterface like usual, but for some reason the Z-axis seems to have flipped for the part coordinate system. Sublime can you recommend a vendor for buying more heater resistors? I'm guessing they're not likely to be found at a local electronics shop - is that true?by Eric Young - Tantillus
Your knowledge is friggin endless - thanks!by Eric Young - Tantillus
Thanks Sublime - this second resistor I have is more peanut-shaped than the first, so I think I'll try a couple of your suggestions. What do you think about using muffler cement to coat the resitor just a bit and then letting it dry before inserting it? this way it could be sanded down to the proper size (I'd think).by Eric Young - Tantillus
Just burnt up a resistor (it was not foil wrapped). While trying to insert the second one, which is wrapped with foil this time, I had problems getting the foil to actually go into the hole along with the resistor. It kept bunching up on the outside of the hotend when I tried to push it in. Is there some trick to this other than just wrapping the foil as tight as possible? I did get a little bitby Eric Young - Tantillus
wow, that is really impressive! Way to add more territory to the map Lemby Eric Young - Tantillus

Cool thanks. How low can I go for the current output? Would 12V be the minimum for Voltage?by Eric Young - Tantillus
Hey Sublime - I have a power adapter for an old laptop that puts out 18.5V - 6.5A max. Would this work for the Tantillus? The plug doesn't quite fit, but I could switch it out with the one from the power supply you sent.by Eric Young - Tantillus

Sounds like an emotional roller-coaster of a night, glad to hear you got it to print Maybe brushing some super glue or other type of bonding agent on the outside of your extruder could help hold the layers together a bit more? I've been meaning to look into that sort of thing - hoping to find some sort of dip that I can dunk my part in if I want to beef them up a bit. Will let everyone know ifby Eric Young - Tantillus
Okay thanks Sublime. I'll email you with the few parts I need.by Eric Young - Tantillus
I don't know if all this is correct, but it's worked for me: I believe you should move the bed even closer to the extrude nozzle using Z-offset. About half the time my prints won't stick on that first layer or two and I get results similar to what you're describing. If I move the bed closer by .05 or .010 from my original offset I can usually get it to work. I've also toyed with the .5 or so botby Eric Young - Tantillus
Power supply it is, thanks Sublime... I honestly probably would not have even thought to check that. Pretty sure I have one of those universal power supplies somewhere around here - time to go rummage some boxes.by Eric Young - Tantillus
While in the middle of a print just now I heard a fairly loud pop come from my machine and looked back to see that nothing was moving. 99% sure it was electrical because I've heard similar pops before from short circuits. I unplugged USB and wall power immediately and after plugging back into USB only the Arduino green and orange LEDs light up and the RAMPS green LED lights. Does anyone know if there has been any experimentation with heat packs to warm up a printer bed? I mean the type you take camping - there are some that are rechargeable if boiled in water and their temp hovers around 54 deg Celcius or 130 deg Farenheit when activated. I just had the random thought last night that if one of these could fit in between the top and bottom bed acrylic it could be wortby Eric Young - Tantillus
Thanks for the hat tips guys Sublime - Thank you for all your suggestions on the gears. I ended up spending some real quality time with them today and right now it's printing a spool holder that so far looks to be the best print to date on this machine Since it's doing so well right now I figure maybe I should take a shot at printing some backup gears; does that sound reasonable at this poinby Eric Young - Tantillus
Sending good luck gear vibes your way buddyby Eric Young - Tantillus
Day 2 of printing and the Tantillus continues to just kill it. Pics are attached are for a big print - the green portion is 3 inch tall and max diameter is 2.725 inch by design. The printed part measures in at 2.721" on that max diameter and I forgot to measure the height before gluing it to the grey base so too late now. The threads are gorgeous and mate perfectly with the threads of the greyby Eric Young - Tantillus
Looks like things are coming along nicely Yonder! My glass was hitting the hotend just a little too hard for my comfort so I ended up sticking a little washer between the gap of the endstop holder and top bracket as a shim. It's a temporary fix, but works great and satisfied my anxiousness at the time to get printing. Depending on your own machines gap distances I imagine this may or may not woby Eric Young - Tantillus
Changed the Z-offset by another .05 as you recommended and halved the bottom layer speed to get a really nice result - see first 3 attached pics. The part is a threaded cap and the threads turned out really nicely shaped. I think they may need to be painted with some adhesive epoxy type stuff to toughen them up a bit. No cleanup was done to it. Haven't seen the layer peeling issue since the firby Eric Young - Tantillus
Thanks all Sublime Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > 1) Did you use the calibration configs I provided > last night? > 2) I assume you used your own cube to test as the > one I provided was 20x20x10. Yup I did use my own cube. As for the calibration I just loaded your 'Standard (0.5mm)_Default' configuration, set the 'fill density' to 1, and then toby Eric Young - Tantillus
Success!!! It really is a beautiful thing to see your first print come to life layer by layer. After playing with the Z-offset in .05mm increments it didn't take too long to get the first layer to take hold and a 20mm calibration cube to print. A bunch of pics are attached. Dimensions of the cube (using $30 calipers) are 19.95mm x 19.96mm x 19.68mm. That's quite a lot better than the $30,000 mby Eric Young - Tantillus
Edit: I was wrong about the issue in this post so deleting so as not to confuse.by Eric Young - Tantillus
Awesome, thanks! I'll give it a shot.by Eric Young - Tantillus
I think I understand, you explained it well. Going to play around and see what happens. Can you recommend increment size(s) for Z-offset changes once the paper-gauge height is set? Is the offset in the positive or negative Z-direction? For example if I want to put the bed .1mm closer to the nozzle, do I type in .1mm, or -.1mm? Is the current setting of 300mm/min for the extruder a good place tby Eric Young - Tantillus
Took a shot at a test print and everything seems okay as far as I can tell, except that the plastic doesn't seem to come out of the nozzle at nearly a high enough rate to build the model. The logical thing to do seems to be either increase temp (currently set at 190, but goes to 200 once the print starts) or increase the extrude rate (currently 300mm/min). Or both. Any thoughts?by Eric Young - Tantillus

Okay, loaded and purged. Pretty cool to see plastic coming out of the extruder tip. Please tell me it's time to print something, I'm so friggin anxious right nowby Eric Young - Tantillus
