Haha you mean I can't base my assumptions on a 4 piece sample set? Makes sense Thanks for the suggestions Pokey, I'm going to do what you've recommended and will report back. Probably wont get to it till tonight as I need to get some real work' done today.by Eric Young - Tantillus
I think the idea behind the design is to constrain the Z-lift bracket tightly in the Z and Y directions, while providing loose constraint in the X direction. The loose X direction constraint compensates, to some degree, for a bent lead screw by allowing the bracket to move from side to side relative to the Z-arms, which are stationary in the X-direction. Ideally the Y direction would be loosely cby Eric Young - Tantillus

After a few days of building and Star Trek NG marathoning things were going pretty smoothly. BIG thanks to everyone contributing to the forum threads because it's been a great help for me(especially the software threads). I snapped a picture of the Tantillus sitting on my desk a few hours ago and I gotta say looks like one bamf Just now I successfully connected the printer to Pronterface andby Eric Young - Tantillus
LOL nice little story and good use of emoticons, I actually kinda felt like I was there with you. So does this somehow mean that the Z-axis moves when you hit Y-home as well as Z-home? No idea on your Z-axis question above btw.by Eric Young - Tantillus
Whoa you are fast, thanks! I asked that before seeing your post on page 2 of the thread (thought there was only one page)by Eric Young - Tantillus

I was wrong about those different head types of screws being okay to use on the bed - the glass plate is sized specifically to fit between Socket Head Cap Screws from the looks of it. My apologies for the incorrect assumption.by Eric Young - Tantillus

Looks like you're having all kinds of fun I had a look at the Treasure Chest model and those bump snaps are pretty darn small. Glad to hear they worked the first time around.by Eric Young - Tantillus

Thanks Sublime. The gears in your videos seem to work nicely and that's what counts in my book I took a look at those Triffid Hunter gears and and it looks like they're all non-involute, which may not even really matter given the tolerances/layers associated with a printed part. I'm thinking that once I have my Tantillus working I'll take a crack at modeling the all gears with involute teeth aby Eric Young - Tantillus
Was able to model the hot end and any of the electronics for which I could find dimensions. Should we stick the SW files up on Github? For the gears I'm going to try creating a master file with linked equations and a design table so they can be easily modified, otherwise the involute tooth profiles need to get re-calculated every time someone wants to change a gear. Sublime, are you able you teby Eric Young - Tantillus
found out what the hot end is so never mind that part of my last postby Eric Young - Tantillus
Oh nice you're almost done, looks great! Sure I'll do the gears, hot end and electronics. Not sure which file(s) is the hot end, can you let me know? I'm new to this 3D printer stuff A few of the gears (the 3 Motor_Gear files), won't open as solids for me because "The STL model has too many surfaces". Are you able to open those as solids? If so would you mind saving off as a SW parts and seby Eric Young - Tantillus

@ Sublime I've tried Acetone with ABS too and without much luck - like you said with the PLA it gets a little sticky but not nearly enough for a nice bond. I think one needs to really saturate the plastic to get it to work. I've heard of people dunking it, but never tried myself. I hear you can actually make ABS glue by leaving some ABS pellets in Acetone for a day or two. Maybe PLA glue could bby Eric Young - Tantillus
Thought I'd mention one other really handy thing about the solvent cement - if you apply a coat or two in the areas of a printed part that see stress it strengthens the part amazingly well. Works great for keeping the layers from shearing apart. It can also be used for aesthetics because it can smooth out build lines pretty well. It basically melts a thin layer of plastic wherever applied.by Eric Young - Tantillus
Another solvent cement called Sigment was mentioned as working well with PLA in the comments of the Thingiverse entry on PLA welding. Not biodegradable though I'd imagine. The Sublime welder looks awesome! Will have to try making one of those at some point.by Eric Young - Tantillus
The soldering gun welding sounds interesting, mind posting a link to the page where you read about it? There's a product called Plastruct Plastic Weld that's worked really well for me on ABS parts. It's a solvent cement (so it melts the material, unlike super glue, which is more like an acrylic resin if I remember correctly) and I've been wanting to test it with PLA. I need to get my hands on soby Eric Young - Tantillus

I'm new to the RepRap community and after looking into the various machines out there I'd really like to get my mitts on a Tantillus. Is there any chance I can still order the full kit from you? Or I can order the OTS parts myself if just supplying the custom parts would be easier for you. Thanks for the amazing work you've done!
