here are the easy ones to gather together. Finally got my head around a couple of calibration issues. Not taken with the greatest camera in the world, the blue and orange filament are from www.3d-printer-filament.com the white from repraper.com all filament less than $30 kg delivered, and no complaints, the blue is a very vivid semi transparent pla.by gazob - Australia, Melbourne RUG
Ive been printing for a little over a week now, had some success' and lots of failures. The qu-bd extruder ended up not working well out of the box so I put it back in the box and bought a reprap style gregs wades extruder and hotend from scwerta at . He was very helpful and the printed parts I recieved were top notch. Some of the issues with the qu-bd extruder now have a solution, but at thisby gazob - Australia, Melbourne RUG
any chance a revisit of the bed levelling routine, not the bells and whistles version with a sensor as mentioned earlier but something like the following would be nice defining leveling points in printer shape, lets say 5 points for starters, based on printbed size prefill with center and 4 points 20mm from the corners, allow each of these to be either manually entered or automatically calculateby gazob - Repetier
I'm in as well, I got my extruder yesterday and am busily calibrating anyway. Eventually I was planning on printing a couple of very similar objects, so this will be a good test. Gazby gazob - Competitions

Im working through similar issues with one as well. The supplied fan on the heatsink is nice and quiet. Official support is being offered on a different forum, here Interested to see anyone who has theirs printing nicely how much impression your extruder is making in the filament. Whereabouts in Australia are you Trustnoone, down the bottom of the forum list are the country specific forums, and inside the Australia one, there is one for each captial city. Faced with a similar decision a couple of months back, didn't want to source every nut and bolt, but did want to build it. This is cut and paste from another non 3d printer forum here is mine, just waiting on an extruder before i start melting plastic, all up cost ~800 build area 200x200x200 Build platform around $460 delivered All electronics from Reprapdiscount on ebay Ramps 1.4, heatedby gazob - General
for my first batch I ended up getting all of mine adjusted to the same sort of level and tried them against known working motor slots on the ramps, any that didnt work +- 20mV I assumed were faulty, and RRP replaced, the ones that worked and all the replacements worked in the range of 95mV to 120mV. Nothing is really plug and play, if you don't start with a standard firmware and make modifications to suit your printer, you will always struggle. By building a prusa Mendel you are effectively buying a printer that will change monthly as you upgrade bits and pieces, each of those changes may require firmware changes to describe the printers current iteration, if you have initially calculated yby gazob - General Mendel Topics
Azteeg x1 Azteeg x3 Ramps 1.4 ultimate from reprapdiscount on eBay I bought the reprapdiscount ramps kit, ask him to bundle as much as he has and you may end up happy with single shipping and great service and price, that being said if the azteeg x3 had of been available in July I would have bought that one. The X 1 is an older board but may be the lower functionality you are looking for,by gazob - General Mendel Topics
Definately check the motors are wired correctly. On the motor connector that plugs into the ramps board test you get resistance across pins 1 - 2 and 3 - 4 (use a multimeter), doesnt matter which end you count from, and conversely open circuit between pins 1 - 3 and 1 - 4. To get to the correct ballpark, with just the usb connected adjust the trimmer measuring voltage from the through board viby gazob - General
Personally for something that large I would look at some of the newer designs like mendel90, Mendel Max, ordbot hadron, and maybe even talk to someone from trinity labs about the upcoming mendelmax pro. I am quite new to this myself, but these newer designs seem stiffer in their current sizes and therefore easier to scale up successfully. GaZby gazob - General
sounds like the either the stepper drivers (pololus or copies, and who's copies?) need adjustment, or your stepper motors are wired wrong. To adjust stepper drivers. Grab a multimeter and with only the usb connected to the board (supplying the logic voltage) adjust the trimmers on the stepper drivers to the appropriate level. If genuine Pololu's measure from the via to the ground as marked redby gazob - General Mendel Topics
check the brightness trimmer on the back of the lcd board as well, spent a couple of hours thinking I had done everything in Marlin to get it working, and obviously had, turned the trimmer a little and voila there was text there the whole timeby gazob - RAMPS Electronics
I would try the A's on the steppers to the 1's on the sanguinolo and the returns on the steppers to the B's on the sanguinolo so like this Stepper Controller A 1A A Return 1B B 2A B Return 2B Power it up and check that you have resistance on the motor, should be hard to turn by hand when its gettinby gazob - General
randomly adjusting the pots on pololus is a bit hit and miss. If they are proper pololu drivers you measure volts between the 2 points marked in red on the attached picture and adjust till you hit 400mV or .4V thats a good starting point to then make minor adjustments to the pot to tune it correctly. If they are not true pololu's but copies then try the above, if it doesnt work go all the wayby gazob - Reprappers
yeah got mine last friday and was largely built by saturday lunchtime. Build doco is pretty sparse but the schematic stle documents have pointers to each subpart which is really useful when working out which screws or parts to use at each stage. If I was starting again tomorrow I would definately take the time to lay it out and run the motor wiring internal to the makerslide, and am contemplatiby gazob - Australia, Melbourne RUG
probably would have made more sense to put this up in the cchs google group, I could ask for an address at the same time, Ive got my printer almost built, but thinking of pulling it apart to run the wiring in a nicer fashion, But next printer night I think ill turn up to see what happens, and might just chuck the box of pellets in anyways. When we moved into our house many years back there was a large box of plastic pellets that were probably used for injection molding under it. basically it has sat there for the last x years as i didnt have any use for it, but you dont throw out good stuff like that. For what its worth I got the reprapdiscounts ramps 1.4 ultimate kit with smart controller and heatbed. The boards look and work great. The "not pololu's" are a little different to adjust, and I found needed adjusting from via to ground to about the 100mV range rather than 400mV as shown in the wiki. My ordbot build platform kit is on its way, from the US so expecting a couple of weeks QU-BD extruder hasnt shipped yet but hopeful in the next week or 2, then a 2 week wait. ramps 1.4 complete, wiring loom, hotend, lcd display all purchased and received filament ordered from repraper last night, 1kg ea of abs and pla, 2 week wait. so im probably aroubnd 3 weeks before i can really start, but asby gazob - Australia, Melbourne RUG
seems there was an issue with the eccentric spacers, we just have to be patient... just another thing im not terribly good at My Ramps and heatbed stuff turned up from Hong Kong in like 3 days, Chelsea from qu-bd keeps sending us positive updates leading me to believe they will get the kickstarter extruders sent early August (next week), so hopefully by mid august all the pieces will come togetby gazob - Australia, Melbourne RUG

Hey Kwando, hadron kits should ship this week, what direction have you gone re electronics? Orduino and azteeg x3 both seem to be weeks if not months away, ive just asked reprapdiscount for a quote on what i believe to be the remaining peices, given I have the extruder / hotend coming from the qu-bd kickstarter, and can source a power supply myself. I dont know whether its been asked before but why not 5 filaments into one printhead, 3 primary colours a black and a white, by changing the feed and retract rates on each of the 5 filaments you would get multi colour, and the inbetween bits where unwanted colour is being expunged on a change of colour either goes to infill, support structure or a purge bucket. That would be pretty far from whereby gazob - General

Okay so if I wanted to about face on this, mendelmax and hadron look great, but at the speed this whole technology is moving may be better to spend less now and upgrade later.
