Huh, that seems reasonable! I don't have time to test this yet, but I'll update the results when I do! I've made the firmware changes, and still need to fix the plugged nozzle. Thanks for the input! Chrisby Mogal - General
I just double checked my currents and temps... all seems well within limits. All pololu's are around 40c under loads... No signs of losing steps... no large hum from any of the motors(over current) Now one thing I have noticed, is that in Repetier-Host, it is indicating the rise in Z travel, but the LCD does not.... should it?! And, I'm 99.9% sure I have this right, but I'll double check with yby Mogal - General
Errrr...... Now I have a plugged extruder!!by Mogal - General
Thanks! Here is my config h, STL and gcode I'm using. Using Marlin firmware, on RAMPS 1.4. Repetier-Host 0.84 with slicer 0.9.8 Nozzle is 0.35mm filament is 1.75 (measured at 1.7) I have FULL MANUAL CONTROL of all three axis of the machine... I tell it to move 10mm, and it moves 10mm. Thanks for the help guys... I'm really stumped once again!! (Sure hope its something simple that I have overlby Mogal - General
I'm still at a loss here... I have full control of the machine, but it just wont move up on the z axis when printingby Mogal - General
James, all axis moves in the correct direction manually, so I believe the dir is correct. MPower, yes the gcode contains Z moves. Konwiddak, I have the Z speed limited to 3mm/s in the firmware. I honestly didn't see the setting in slicer... I'll check after work! But I do not hear a hum from the Z motors(that I am aware of) Attached is my gcode. And thanks for the input!! Chrisby Mogal - General
Hello all! FINALLY got this thing going to where I can start printing some test peaces! I have my steps calculated, and squirting some plastic!! Problem is, the Z axis does not move up while printing! stays at the same level during the entire print. I have to cancel everything. I have full manual control of all axis... moving up/down/homing ect, all with manual control. As soon as I hit 'prinby Mogal - General
How about making some travel bugs for Geocaching? I know ALOT of people doing that anymore!!by Mogal - General
Grandpa?!?! is that you!! Sounds like a great shop to play in. I'd be late for dinner every night! Southbends are nice machines, I have a SB 10k myself. No bridgeport though but a RF40 with DRO. Have fun with the build, it is half the fun after all!by Mogal - General
I haven't got it runnng yet, but I am totally impressed with the Mendel90 as other here as well. Its easier to buy one, but a lot more fun and interesting to build one. I'm good mechanically as well, rebuilding a lathe and mill, then building a DIY CNC and now the 3D printer. the electronics are killing me though!! my fiddling blew a pololu and a thermister LOL. As others have said... read LOTSby Mogal - General
Thanks Topher! I didn't know about M302, it'll come in handy until I get the new thermisters. Chrisby Mogal - Printing
Ah crap! I just broke a wire off my hot end thermistor... I haven't got another one, so outa commission till a new one gets here. (How do I bypass the temps so I can still test things?) I've re-flashed with the speed you recommend, how about acceleration? is that ok?by Mogal - Printing
Here is a copy/paste of my movements in the firmware. I have gone through Joe's Calc to get my steps, and they are pretty much bang on. (I still have to calibrate my E though) I see now that the feedrate is mm/sec... I'll lower that and see what I get. I'll also have to investigate the EPROM (I've never looked into it) Thanks! ----- //// MOVEMENT SETTINGS #define NUM_AXIS 4 // The axis order inby Mogal - Printing
Hey all, Trying to get my first print for calibration going... The issue I'm having is when I start the print (the calibration cube) The machine heats up, then 'ZOOMS' into position... problem is, it overspeeds, and looses steps. I have to stop it before it self destructs!! I left the defaults in the marlin firmware(2000mm/min for X/Y and 100mm/min Z) In the software, I have the same speeds setby Mogal - Printing
nophead Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > 1.75mm filament won't work in the Wades's extruder > unless the hole through the block is made smaller. I've made an adapter sleeve that slides into the extruder... If it works well, I'll let you know.by Mogal - Mendel90
Hi Nophead, Sorry for being a pain, I'm not getting the bounce off the limit switches. The retracts are there as you described, but not happening? Other then the bounce, the setup is now working correctly. const bool X_ENDSTOPS_INVERTING = false; Now if I change this to true, the axis goes in the opposite direction (away from the limit switch) and if I manual hit the switch during the home sequeby Mogal - Mendel90
nophead Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It should hit, back off, hit again slower and back > off 1mm on X & Y, less on Z. Thanks, that's what I thought, it's not doing that... just hits the switch and stops.... Is that in your revision of Marlin, or is that feature/function in all Marlin versions now?by Mogal - Mendel90
One more quick question, When conducting the home sequence, should the steppers not 'bounce' off the switches after it is homed? Thanks, Chrisby Mogal - Mendel90
Thanks guys, I got it. Seems I don't know my MAX from my MIN (Thanks for the visual Stubbienz - That's what I needed) Now to get the rest of the machine built, and software configured! Chrisby Mogal - Mendel90
Hey, sorry, I'm at a complete loss here, and can not seem to figure it out. I have 90% of the machine built... (ITS AWESOME!!) Thanks Chris! I just can not get my head wrapped around the firmware settings for homing the Z axis. X and Y are working properly. Z will operate correctly, only when homing in the down direction. When I define Z_HOME_DIR from -1 to 1, the switch becomes inoperable. Wheby Mogal - Mendel90
Thanks, I'm using a dedicated 12v supply. I REALY don't want another psu. Any other options? Where do I test for 5v on the board?by Mogal - RAMPS Electronics
Yea, that one got me stumped too, sorry I didn't think of it earlier... Might have saved yea the extra purchse... Glad its working for yea!! Cheers! Chris Post pics if yea canby Mogal - RAMPS Electronics
Hey Nophead, I hope you got a good production line going! I have to nominate the Mendel90 as well. And I haven't even built mine yet!!by Mogal - General
What about the sevenswitch? Its what I'm going to be using... I have the 8x8 silicon heater as well. Still yet to wire it in though...by Mogal - General Mendel Topics
Hey Chris, sorry to hear you still have probs... Do you have your endstops plugged in? Also, have you clicked the 'home' button? Click it first, then try a motor movement. Just for giggles, I've uploaded the firmware I have. The ONLY changes to it are to enable the LCD screen. NO other changes were made. Cheers! Chrisby Mogal - RAMPS Electronics

I bought one, but have not used it yet. The price sure was right. I've since bought a j-head and will be using it for my first extruder... pfinucan sums it up well. Official QU-BD Troubleshooting & Support Forumby Mogal - General
Hi Chris, Figure anything out yet?by Mogal - RAMPS Electronics
K, I'll look into a new diode...(THANKS!) sometimes a checklist can help: - motor wire continuity is correct - motor pin-outs correct in firmware - motor leads correct(ohm test) - wire/leads/board plug orientated correctly - consider putting D1 back on the board - adjusting pot voltage (maybe you need more V?) - all motors loose voltage when move ordered? - all the pins from between boards are pby Mogal - RAMPS Electronics
