Looking at the issue now with more familiarity with the blinky lights it looks as if the issue is a non-issue after all. I don't have stepper motors yet so I'm using the stepper tester boards and the lights stop when they're supposed to. The only issue may have been with the debug light on the controller board itself which blinks while the stepper motors are running. It didn't seem to reset itseby reece.arnott - Controllers
Not that I'm aware of. I haven't updated the firmware or had a good play with the max opto-stops in a number of months though. If I get time in the next couple of days I might try again.by reece.arnott - Controllers
The instructions were changed in response to my experiences and it may be there are remnants of the previous instructions and BOM. I connected the wire via a 3 pin header and housing combo but there was an excessive amount of force needed to insert the headers. Chances are you'll not be wanting to plug and unplug the wires at the endstop itself so its probably best to just solder them on. Howby reece.arnott - Reprappers
I think between us we may have run Farnell out of stepper motors I ordered mine about a month ago and they haven't turned up yet. At the time I noted that they had a stock of 2 and I was wanting 3. A quick look on their site today reveals they are still out of stock. I also read on various threads that there are a few others in my situation. Maybe it would be better to do a bulk purchase forby reece.arnott - Mechanics
Attached is the changelog of my current 0.2 version of the LiveCD. The log also contains a list of the commands I've run so you could follow along and make your own if you'd like. I've but up generic instructions on remastering an Ubuntu LiveCD at The main issue so far was caused by a corrupt file. Don't ask me how it got corrupted but its taken me quite a number of hours to figure it out. It wby reece.arnott - RepRap Host
Finally! The problem with my LiveCD was not just the permissions but also that somehow I had a corrupted version of the j3d-org-java3d-all.jar file. It was around 6KB when it was supposed to be around 400. How I did that and didn't notice especially as I was actually thinking the file might be corrupt I don't know. At this point I have a number of copies and versions of this file floating arounby reece.arnott - RepRap Host
After a bit of playing around it looks like the default file rights for the j3d-org-java3d-all.jar may be wrong for the 0.9 version zip file I downloaded from their homepage. The 0.8 version has the rights as -rw-r--r-- but the 0.9 version is -rwxrwx--- As this file is copied into place via a sudo command this means its assigned user and group as root so the normal user has no rights to it, henby reece.arnott - RepRap Host
Nope. I followed all those instructions and had the same issue when trying to compile and run the source code from within Eclipse. But when I tried to run the host-package-release script I got an error saying: error: error reading /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.03/jre/lib/ext/j3d-org-java3d-all.jar; error in opening zip file I figured that indicated that it was either a rights issue or a corrupby reece.arnott - RepRap Host

You beat me to it. I got 2 copies and I was going to post about them as well. I also know them as Nigerian scams. Oh well, I'm sure it will start an interesting discussion about something and be totally unrelated by the second forum page.by reece.arnott - General
That seems to imply that either the 0.8.1 reprap-host zip file available on sourceforge is flawed and just doesn't work or that one of the extra steps adds/changes something to make it work properly. Unless someone else knows, I'll have a play around with this over the next few days and see if I can get a definitive answer. I'd be surprised if it was the reprap-host software as I'm fairly sure Iby reece.arnott - RepRap Host
I'm hoping that I can also use the LiveCD to get my local LUG interested and helping out. A small number of them would be willing to help me out with LiveCD issues and another small number might be willing to help out with the coding of the host software if its simple enough for them to see a demo of what we've currently got and the parts that are a little clunky. So yes, if it was just for distby reece.arnott - RepRap Host
I've tried to install the reprap software on my computer now that I've put Ubuntu Gutsy on it and have run into this stupid error message again: Exception in thread "RepRap" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/j3d/renderer/java3d/loaders/STLLoader at org.reprap.gui.STLObject.(Unknown Source) at org.reprap.gui.RepRapBuild.createSceneBranchGroup(Unknown Source) at org.reprapby reece.arnott - RepRap Host

I'm already aware of at least one other Dunedinite (hi Paul!). Are there any others? I'm hoping to have my machine as a 2 extruder fully fledged Darwin by the end of Feb next year. I think the bottleneck in your case might have been RAM. Any changes it makes to the filesystem are stored in RAM so you do need quite a lot but I've got it to work moderately well on 512MB and at an almost bearable speed with 768MB. Who knows, this may be a waste of time but I think it might be useful to one or two people in the current community and if we can get it right then we could get ridby reece.arnott - RepRap Host
Ian, I'll see how things go but I'd like to keep it to just a CD rather than a DVD just because theres still a lot of machines out there without DVD drives (also of course it keeps the download a little smaller). The Ubuntu LiveCD as it comes is a bootable CD that comes up with a menu with a number of items but most people just use the first one which is to run the entire distro off the CD. OK, Thanks to Ian in advance for any storage space he's willing to give me. Now, what do we want in our Live CD. I've been having a few network issues with the latest Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) so I'll probably use the Feisty release as a base to start from (probably more important to have a working Live CD rather than the latest bleeding edge one). Also, I'll only be doing the i386 version as Iby reece.arnott - RepRap Host

Cory Doctorow's first book "Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom" has an interesting take on what economics is about in a 'post-scarcity' world. The idea is that you have your reputation and thats what you value so you do things that will benefit others and they will increase your reputation for you and make you 'richer' becuase of it. All economics at the most basic come down to trading the one trby reece.arnott - General
My take on Kevins comments is that he has a point but that in the grand scheme of things its a very small one. Currently the whole project (especially the electronics in the last few weeks) are in a state of flux. My opinion on the matter is that this is quite clear from following the posts on the forums even if only for a week or so. It might be helpful to put disclaimers on various key pages aby reece.arnott - Reprappers
Actually I think it might have been one of CRN's earlier posts that got me interested in RepRap in the first place. I'm coming at this from the point of view of trying to give a helping hand to the gestation of the Desktop Nanofactory that CRN estimate is 10-15 years away (See the link in their sidebar labelled Nanofactory Video for a cool animation of how it might work). Thanks. I'd just got to the point of looking at getUniquePartList and figuring out that was doing exactly what I'd wanted. It would have taken a bit of research to find out about arsort though :-) I'll probably still have a go at teaching myself php anyway and hopefully get up to speed relatively quickly.by reece.arnott - General
Thanks for putting that up. It looks like my logic was a bit faulty as some of the figures are just plain weird. I think what it is that my query doesn't take into account what happens if the parent part is used more than once. The pseudo-code for changing this is quite simple: do count=0 for each part if parent != NULL do quantity = quantity * parent.quantityby reece.arnott - General
I can't figure out how to commit the files through Eclipse so here they are. They are replacements for the controllers\main.php and views\main.statistics.php The main.php file just has under the public function statistics() an array being set to the results from a query, specifically the query: SELECT SUM(quantity) AS cnt, name, units FROM raw_parts rp INNER JOIN unique_parts up ON up.id = rp.by reece.arnott - General

I've been thinking for a while now that it would be good to have a list of the number and quantity of unique parts needed for a variety of reasons. I was going to do a manual count and then I thought that it would probably be quite a simple query to add to the part lister. Maybe add a button that says 'Generate Unique parts count report' or some such in the part list lookup. It would leverage oby reece.arnott - General
