Print 2 don't learn the hard way like I did.by jzatopa - General
From what i have seen there are very few parts where strength is an issue on the machine. If anything the problems arise from warping or parts that don't print quite right.by jzatopa - General
I bought this stuff and had problems with it. It doesn't print like regular PLA. Here is how I got it to work temps of 200-220 (just found out my hot end doesn't come up to the temp on the display, you might need to check this yourself) glass bed @ 100 spray glass with hairspray and let dry.by jzatopa - For Sale
To John and everyone involved with the MRRF I just want to thank you for putting on such a great event. I don't remember the last time I met such a wonderful group of people in one place. thanks to you guys I have already fixed a few problems on my machine I didn't know I had and I ended up making new ones. I guess that's how it goes.by jzatopa - General
I plan on attending but due to a previous engagement I won't be able to get there until about 7pm which looks like dinner time. Will the dinner be at the hall or somewhere else? If it's going to be somewhere else could you post where?by jzatopa - General
I know it's not Reprap related, and I hope you guys don't consider this spam, but my fiance just launched her first kickstater and I wanted to share it with all of you. She is an amazingly talented artist and I would really like to see this get funded. Here is the piece that her kickstarter is focusing on. Brittany's Hanks' Kickstarterby jzatopa - General
Great work guys.by jzatopa - General
There are some great improvements with this design but I wonder if they will warrant the added expenses. The only thing I would change is the small build platform, with a heated chamber I would think you could easily get to 400x400x400.by jzatopa - General
I was on the IRC channel and Starno and I got on the topic of where we would like to see the development of 3d printing go. That got me thinking, I wonder what everyone thinks on this subject. Reprap was designed to self-replicate and evolve. I think a lot of work has been done replicating but I feel not enough talk has been done on the evolution. So my question to you is this, how would yoby jzatopa - General

You will be happy with both. From what I understand if you buy a beta unit, Max will ship you the final parts if there are any changes. That way you will have a production 2.0 in the end. Once you build your first printer you will end up learning a lot. You won't go wrong with either. Personally I would go with the 2.0 because it will be the design going forward and it is supposedly a a wholby jzatopa - General
Welcome to the largest problem with open source. Just about every person who releases an open source project does not do any of the hard work. What is the hard work? Clear and understandable documentation and presentation of everything required to complete the project from beginning to end. Another reason this happens so often is because there has not been a suitable hardware version of githuby jzatopa - General

I just checked out this machine because of this thread and I have to say I am quite impressed. It looks like one of the most linear designs I have seen. With some more development I am sure this machine could go quite far.by jzatopa - General
I am truly sorry for your loss. I know how horrible it can be losing a close family member. My sincerest condolences.by jzatopa - General

That should have fallen under artistic uses, which there are legal grounds for. It's a shame that happened as I am sure the family could have won if they could have afforded a decent lawyer.by jzatopa - General
Tekwizard going with the flow may work for quite a few but the fact is that the market is very different today then it was in the late 70s early 80s. What you are talking about could happen if we don't get some open source hardware groundwork laid out early enough. This emerging market is more related to the OS wars then the hardware wars. A form of linux runs huge parts of the internet and abby jzatopa - General
have you guys contacted the people at pumping station one? If not you really should.by jzatopa - General
The problem will still remain with the new first-to-file system. Creators of open source software don't have to pay anything to have their works protected per se. Open source hardware would still require a patent to be protected under our current system and patents really don't provide what we need. On top of that patents cost a lot of money ($5000-15000), are only for one country and are pretby jzatopa - General
Bobc There are 2 ways I see managing this. 1. Go back to the drawing board and start over on all IP topics. This is what really needs to be done, this is what many people are calling for, and this won't happen because there are to many stake holders with deep pockets. 2. focus on developing a system that works for open source/public domain files/designs/products. In essence a GPL for productsby jzatopa - General
PeteD I looked at both those papers yesterday. They lay out obvious problems by viewing laws broad interpretations. Law doesn't work like the rules of physics however, if you can make a cogent argument and convince others that the law needs to be interpreted a certain way, it can be interpreted that way. I don't know where you think what I said was cut and dry. That is unless me saying it isby jzatopa - General
"including any .stl files Johann Rocholl has released under a GPL, fall under patent law" Here is where things are going to get even more confusing. It is possible to argue that an .STL file or similar is code rather then an object/product. Under this argument the files would fall under copyright law again. Only the physical objects would then fall under patent law, if at all. This is a HUGEby jzatopa - General
Looking at this printer there are a few things I can say I like about their design. It is simple, time has been taken to lower part counts and hide all wires. I also like how it uses makerslide for it's rails, something that we should be doing with repraps going forward if we want to simplify their designs. They really have not broken any new ground though, which is a shame. Even if they don'by jzatopa - General

I love the discussion here but you guys are trying to reinvent the wheel. There is already a FDM system for metal, MIG welding. You just have to make your table so that the part can be removed at the end. There are metals which steel won't go to stick to which could be used. You could also try using a thin sheet of steel over that metal as a base plate for the first layer to stick to. Thereby jzatopa - Developers
