I got my new fan in today. Hooked it up and I do get airflow through my Hepa filter now. This new fan sounds like a hair dryer or high end vacuum cleaner (they warned me it was noisy at around 68db) I held a tissue in front of the filter and it was drawn onto the filter, not with a lot of pressure but the filter is 14cm diameter so there is a lot of surface area. Not crazy about the noise itby tmorris9 - General
Quotenebbian Has anyone considered using a 'normal' carbon face mask? Ie one with just a layer of paper, some carbon, then another layer of paper in the shape of a face. I bought a couple of these, as well as a 90mm fan not too long ago with the aim of seeing if this would reduce the ABS fumes a bit. I think that airflow might be better with this setup. Yet to try it though. It may help theby tmorris9 - General
I am looking into a camera designed just for timelapse called Brinno ( ) I am waiting to hear back from the manufacturer to see if it will withstand the heat. Again though I want the camera on the print bed so the item being printed is still in the end video and the rest of the printer is moving around it. I am also looking into using a webcam but an HD webcam that will work is not as easy toby tmorris9 - General
Well I wanted it attached to the heat bed so that it looks like the part is not moving (I've seen it both ways but I like this effect more). I am looking into other methods to see what else I can come up with.by tmorris9 - General
Anybody try using a GoPro inside a heated build chamber for taking time lapse? Curious how well they stand up to 50c - 70c temperatures over time.by tmorris9 - General
There is only 1 scrap yard around where I live and they don't have any. ebay still seems like the best price (Misumi has their website down for 2 days so I have not checked them yet).by tmorris9 - General
Just looking for the best deal on aluminum extrusion. I am going to build a new heated chamber (mine is currently wood framed) and I want to use 1" aluminum extrusion. Currently the best price I have seen is on ebay (U.S. sellers) for around $8 for a 36" pieces but they get $24 shipping, good news is I need 12 pieces and the shipping only goes up to $35 for all 12 pieces. Just curious if there iby tmorris9 - General
Epicepee, where did you hear that Builtak is PEI? I have heard many people say it is absolutely not PEI. I don't know for sure myself but it sure does not look like PEI.by tmorris9 - General
They are heat pumps, they pump heat from one side to the other. How cool? Well depends on a lot but in open air it can freeze water in seconds. However if you just put power to them they will self destruct in 30 seconds or so, the hot side needs a vert large heat sync (5-10x the size of the device) and a fan, if not the hot side will destroy the device very quickly. I loved these and made a cooby tmorris9 - General
I used the Nocture NF-F12 industrialPPC-2000 (note the same model number also has PWM versions). I would be interested to see what you find out since the highest pressure I could find in a 120mm (the larger the size the higher pressure you can get) was like 10mm H2O but that was the pwm version. I notice that fan looks extra thick, that might be an advantage for pressure. Have you built yours yeby tmorris9 - General
Well, I made one using the mask filter and the fan shown. Unfortunately there is zero air flow through the filter, the fan just does not have enough static pressure. So I found a Noctura 120mm fan with 4mm H2O (highest I could find without going to PWM fans) and I used a Bissel exhaust round hepa filter so I had a fairly large surface area. Made a coupler to put the 2 together with an air tightby tmorris9 - General
Just hit the bottom of the printed part with a little 400 sand paper, should only take seconds to take the gloss off.by tmorris9 - General
I have decided to rig up a respirator filter system for myself. Question is, would you vent it into the room or would you just recirculate it into the closed box? If you vent it into the room that means the box would be pulling in cold air from outside (with ABS hot air is the whole reason for having a heated chamber after all) so this might cause issues. If you circulate it back into the box yoby tmorris9 - General
Just thought of something else. The portable air conditioners have a sliding window vent that fit most any window (they slide to make them larger) and have a nice vent. This allows the AC to vent out but still keep the window closed up against the vent.by tmorris9 - General
What about just using a commercially available hepa replacement filters with a fan? The hepa air purifiers are just a fan with a pre filter (catches the larger particles so they don't clog up the hepa) and a hepa filter.by tmorris9 - General

Bike brake shoes are normally rubber. Plastic would make stopping nearly impossible. Now, maybe something like Ninja-Flex filament might (big might) work.by tmorris9 - Reprappers
Yup, try 30mm/s speed and 2-3 mm length (try 3 first since yours is so bad). It also looks like you might be over extruding a bit. Try setting your extrusion multiplier to .90 instead of 1.0by tmorris9 - Printing
As said the first layer needs to be squished. So one thing that can help with this is to lower your Z axis height (end stop adjustment) or make the machine extrude more on the first layer as Montiey said.by tmorris9 - Printing
You picked a hard subject for being new to printing. Threads are always a pain when you start out. The machine not only needs to be calibrated correctly but you need to know how all the settings in your slicer of choice affect the end product. You don't mention what nozzle you are using but I would not start out with a .1mm layer height on that model. Assuming you have around a .35mm nozzle I woby tmorris9 - Printing
Your infill at least is still way over extruding. Go to Print Settings/ Advanced and see what the infill or solid infill are set to. (Zero is default). Also try printing slower. It could just be the photos but the images look slightly slanted wish might be slipping or backlash which might also be an issue with your circles. It's also helpful if you post your main settings like nozzle size, prinby tmorris9 - Printing
This was done with a combination of filler putty, sanding, spray primer filler then paint.by tmorris9 - Reprappers
Dupli-color makes a fairly thick primer-filler spray. It works great on ABS but I have not tried it with PLA. It's best to use the body filler on deep areas, sand lightly then use the spray primer filler to do the final coat before paint.by tmorris9 - Reprappers

I use a heater like this It simply plugs into a lamp socket. No need to control it but rather just buy the wattage you need (the higher the wattage the hotter they will be. Mine is actually only 40w but I might get a 75w one later).by tmorris9 - Reprappers
Those fittings are really designed for pressurized air and little to no movement. My dad uses them in classic cars with airbags (air shocks) and when they have 100psi in them you cannot pull them out. So, the air pressure keeps the gripping portion pushed outward preventing removal of the airline. How about forcing the plastic to stay out with a printed clip to fit between the metal body and theby tmorris9 - Reprappers
