The amount of noise could also be cause be certain stepper drivers. The A4988's have an extra trimpot where you can set the oscillation for example. But still, something doesn't sound right. Not sure what it is. I have no experience with these screw-driven systems.. However, your printer looks very interesting and one- of a kindby Ohmarinus - General
There are way cheapers ways to buy the Prusa i3 alu frames cut to size. I recommend looking for premade versions instead of buying the plate yourself and then having a company CNC it or lasercut it for you. Not sure if this is the best/cheapest, but it's pretty doable!by Ohmarinus - General
Hey guys, it is all taking a little more time than I anticipated. At the academy I'm studying we have had a few client presentations of a few of our architecture projects and this in combination with working on new projects is eating away especially from my creative energy! Now it's time to pick-up sketching again At the moment I'm looking at the base of the machine. I think the ABS printed pby Ohmarinus - Extruded Aluminum Frames

QuoteYvan How about grooving the bearings yourself? It's easy. I tried with my Dremel, no luck. Those bearings are superhard!by Ohmarinus - General
Haha ohnoes, too late! I already ordered everything for the direct drive extruder and will use triffid hunters' direct drive bowden kit for 1.75mm Also, The MK8 direct drive hobbed wheel will be used and I ordered some of the 5mm ID bearings. Only thing I couldn't get were affordable grooved bearings. Nevermind, I'll do without them. Will update when all the parts are in! - Marinusby Ohmarinus - General
Seems like they are worth a try. Do you use when without lubrication and do you notice any loss in how tight they are? Do you have a movie maybe?by Ohmarinus - General
This conversation is getting interesting I have decided to use a bowden extruder, direct drive, so with no gears. Because it's direct drive, I have to use 1.75mm, because the 3mm filament will kill the NEMA17, it cannot output enough force I think. There are a few extruders out there, but they all use the kind of bearings I cannot get in my town and I can't find them with Dutch suppliers, suchby Ohmarinus - General

Which hotend would that be?by Ohmarinus - General
I can imagine that > 0.5mm you would get an interesting drop in head pressure. But okay, I will load up on a 0.5mm J-head for the 1.75mm filament then. Even though I have my 3mm setup spanking at the moment, it's running super haha, you know that saying about not fixing something that ain't broke?by Ohmarinus - General
Any follow ups on this? Did your printer get finished Repper? And what about his Twitter account, I see a lot of stuff being posted on there? I don't get it, apparently Repper, you are not being helped with your printer, but Ezra is still working hard on other things? I hope all is well now.by Ohmarinus - General
I would not recommend using plexiglass as it becomes bendy when it heats up and you would need to use a thick variant to get the kind of stiffness one would desire. My best experiences are still with aluminum.. With MDF I'm also not completely satisfied, but when you don't have a choice, it is a good idea to use MDF plate thats at least 6mm thick. As far as printing directly on plexiglass/acrby Ohmarinus - General
Why not just start with the kraken Just kidding ofcourse. I would suggest the J-head, there is a lot of information available about the J-head, there are some bad copies available on Ebay, so beware what you buy. I think the Magma is for the more advanced users, full-metal hotends are suitable for all kinds of printing, but are expensive, and as a first hotend, the chances that you destroy oneby Ohmarinus - General
QuoteT3P3 The diameter of the filament does not have a direct influence on the extrusion force at the nozzle as the plastic is molten. It can make a difference further up the path though. It varies by hotend design for example the length of the transition zone. The proper J heads made by Brian at RPW are machined differently to suit the filament diameter. I have found the clones that use insertsby Ohmarinus - General
Dit i.c.m.
Hahaha, oh my god, okay, so it's unworkable... Too bad I've only had it once that netfabb could not fix a file! So it's a very rare occurrence!by Ohmarinus - General
I know a grooved bearing is mostly for extruders with a guide, but does anyone know if a grooved bearing will help in any way if the extruder is already running fine? I want to get into designing my own extruder and I want to try and make a groove in a bearing with my dremel tool.by Ohmarinus - Printing
QuoteNormandC QuoteOhmarinus Just went to buy the E3D, but it's suddenly much more expensive (why?) so I can't buy it now. Too bad. Actually you missed the Holidays sale. The E3D was 20% off and is now back to its regular price. Oh man, that sucks (for me) ... Thanks for clearing that up. I'll go for a J-head instead now.by Ohmarinus - General
Looks crappy yes, BUT, it looks still very usable. If there is infill or not I can't say, without infill they probably couldn't print it because infill acts as internal support so I doubt that. I think you can get your printer up and running easily and print new parts for your own printer Yes, it's not the quality you would expect, but you are stuck with it I guess so you might as well put itby Ohmarinus - General
