Thanks for the info both of you. @Traumflug: I trust you got my PM responses (second as well as first).by dslc - Controllers
Thanks for the clarification gents. The documentation looks good Gary!by dslc - General Mendel Topics
Hi. I'm a bit confused about how many stepper motors I need to build a Prusa. I am planning to use Greg's hinged accessible extruder (a variation on Wade's extruder). I know the standard recommendation is to use the NEMA 17 motors - and I can get these via mendel-parts.com, thingfarm.org, or any other number of sources. What I don't know is whether I need 4 or 5. Obviously one is needed for eaby dslc - General Mendel Topics
@jcabrer: I'll have a closer look at the hole for the hot end when my ordered parts arrive. If they are compatible with your hot end I will definitely look into it.by dslc - General
Ok - thanks for picking up on my sloppy terminology. Anyway, I'll probably try this once/if I get a reprap up and running. davidby dslc - Robots!
Apologies if this topic has been raised already - but a cursory search didn't yield much info. I like the Generation 7 Electronics and am toying with the idea of going with it rather than e.g. Sanguinololu or RAMPS. Seeing as it consists of only through-hole components, I think I could manage the assembly myself. So, if I decide to order the PCB rather than etch one, does anyone have recommendaby dslc - Controllers
Maybe you're right Markus. I don't really know FreeCAD (or Python) well enough to tell whether or not that's viable to be honest. I will say though ... Scripting features aside, the GUI is more sophisticated than I had previously thought; and the more I experiment with and get to know FreeCAD, the more I like it. It's drafting module is very nice, and includes at least preliminary dimensioning abby dslc - 3D Design tools
Hi there. Thanks for the response. I think I'll probably be going with the makergear extruder - based on the positive reports you've referred to. I'll try to post updates here.by dslc - General
Say I wanted to use a 36 kHz infra-red receiver for a project, and wanted to enclose the receiver in a mini-channel to limit its field of view. Could PLA or ABS be used to accomplish this? i.e. could it block wireless signals around that frequency? Would it depend on the colour?by dslc - Robots!
Someone has offered to print Greg Frost's version of Wade's extruder ( ) at a reasonable price for me. Before doing so, however, they need to know what hot end I want to use with it. And, frankly, I don't know. Looking at the openscad file, there seems to be an option between six different hot ends - defined by the following variables: malcolm_hotend_mount=1; groovemount=2; peek_reprapsouby dslc - General
I would love to see an open-source CAD program with these features: BREP support (rather than just CSG) dimension / annotation capability (to facilitate documentation as well as just sending straight to a CNC machine/reprap) openscad-like programming/scripting language I am very fond of Openscad's language - but (to the best of my knowledge) it only does CSG. I am also fond of the opencascade-bby dslc - 3D Design tools
I will quite possibly begin ordering parts for a Prusa Mendel over the next week or so. I'm probably going to order them in bits and pieces - so I can reevaluate my budget regularly while I'm getting started. My time will probably be divided between Dublin and Waterford over the rest of the summer (until about mid september) - so I don't know where I will actually be building it yet. Would anyone of ye be interested in a RepRap user group in Ireland? There might be sufficient interest here at this stage to make it worthwhile. I think there have been a few other people from Ireland on the forums. A forum of some sort might help to streamline our efforts, maybe share parts/tools/materials/etc.. Let me know.by dslc - Ireland RepRap User Group
Hi Emmett. Although I'm usually based in Waterford, I'm studying in Dublin at the moment. If you want to get in touch at any stage, just send me a PM.by dslc - Ireland RepRap User Group
Hi Cathal, Sorry I never got back to you about this until now. I've been busy with college. I'm still very interested in getting involved in this at some stage, but - at the moment - any time I have to spend on electronics is with less ambitious projects. And purchasing a ready-made reprap (or the parts for it) is probably out of my budget at the moment. In the meantime (in case you're interestby dslc - Ireland RepRap User Group
Hi, Just wondering if there are any folk from Ireland who are interested in reprapping/fabbing? I'm in the south-east, and - although - I haven't made any progress in building a RepRap as of yet, I have been following the project for about 2 and a half years. I would be interested in hooking up with any reprappers if they are nearby. I'm aware of the reprap map ( ), but I haven't actually starby dslc - Ireland RepRap User Group
Hi Forrest, I'm not sure - and maybe you know, or have tried, this already - but the following *might* work: (i) When logged in to Yahoo Mail, select 'Options' up the top right (ii) Scroll down and - in the 'Management' column - select 'General Preferences' (iii) Scroll down to the 'Composing E-mails' section, and - if it's not already the current mode - change 'Mode' to 'Compose messages as plaby dslc - General
