That would be a different and probably simpler project (not that I'm signing up to do it). Parallel to serial adapter and software driver to make parallel port pins look like serial port. Might even be something like that out there.by bartlee45 - General
Try testing communication first. I assume that you can loopback tx to rx and see what you type using serial comm program. If that is good, use poke and see if you can get the version to come back from the controller see troubleshooting under I had all kinds of problems before I put .1 uf decoupling cap on my test circuit. You don't need much to communicate with the pic either, just tx rx gnd andby bartlee45 - Controllers
Hi Seth, You could do any of that. I'm sure there are lots of people with access to CNC and that might prove worthwhile for them. The key piece would be providing an interface to the cnc machine that used the reprap software. If you are concerned about the extrusion, just add that piece and integrate normally. As for the CNC control, I'm not sure what they use. You could opt to use reprap to contby bartlee45 - General
We've talked about Nano Technology before and I was looking around. Here's a Google map that shows activity across the US. Thought I would just share.by bartlee45 - General
Does the pull down somehow affect the address that the pic is supposed to respond to? Thats the big difference between any of the axis controllers. The port is set as a build parameter on the commandline configured in the makefile for the individual device I believe.by bartlee45 - RepRap Host
Oh yeah, I didn't see this last night even after looking, so I looked harder. You have to select option to use the driver. Settings->Options then select Misc tab and check the Checkbox Enable NT/2000/XP Driver. Dear Zach, can you get this into the instructions too?by bartlee45 - Controllers
In earlier discussions on the list there has been talk about print heads in parallel. You simply move them both all the time and you extrude with the one where you want it to come out from. Otherwise the carousel would require more work with pics, motors, sensors etc. If you don't have the additional need to print with both at the same time, you can just install the head of choice and swap for aby bartlee45 - Reprappers
I should have made more of an effort: Files here Unzip them all to the same place and then run the executable. set the programmer settings according to the programmer you have. Link to settings links here That should do it.by bartlee45 - Controllers
Only build 16f628 as posted previously the same code works for 16f628 16f628a and 16f648a. Getting it programmed is a function of your programmer and I have no problem programming the hex files thus produced on JVM programmer. Adrian had some luck and wrote something up of his trials and tribulations and seemed successful with some combination finally under linux as many others have. I'm not famiby bartlee45 - RepRap Host
Thats a known issue.. let me look that up again.. Aha.. Yes umm... To quote the page "We suggest "IC-Prog", as it is well-supported and free for personal use. You can obtain the latest version of IC-Prog from www.ic-prog.com. In all, you'll need to download three files: the application (icprog105a.zip), the driver for Windows NT/2000/XP (icprog_driver.zip) and the help file (icprog.chm)." Andby bartlee45 - Controllers
Well lets not forget that we can make tools to make tools. Diverse technologies merge to provide interesting possibilities. I know there has been lots done with microtechnology replication commercially. That would be an interesting offshoot. I know we have some chemists working on polymers. Maybe we have some with an interest that. Reprap has some very definite short term goals. We don't need toby bartlee45 - General
Oh yeah, for windows.. I forgot to add to this. The only advice in addition to what Joost said is that you may need the javax.com.properties file. It looks like (excluding all the comments) Driver=com.sun.comm.Win32Driver and mine is located in C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_13\libby bartlee45 - General
That was a good one Joost. On the off chance that it actually does happen, I'd like to see that bloggedby bartlee45 - Controllers
Make sure what version of Java you are using and the supporting directories where the javax stuff is supposed to go. If you have more than one version of Java, your files could be in the right place for that version, but not the version you are using. I think java -version will tell you the version of java being used. So where it says appropriate, the example shows "appropriate for version j2re1.by bartlee45 - General

I'd have thought Adrian might have posted something but here's what I sent him about how I updated some STL files that he had made available (The -SE.stl). Better read up on the cold heat, my son used one and said it didn't work very well. I read up on it on the internet and the reviews are scathing. Not easy to use and the "heat" comes from running a current through the material to be soldered.by bartlee45 - General
Ok, forget I said committees, pretend instead I said interested hardworking individuals that are already doing lots of work and want to provide focus for those wanting to contribute.by bartlee45 - General
I think there is going to be lots of diversity. That's a good thing. But it means there may be choosing in what your reprap can do and when. We will need lots of support from the original idea people and those that help make it better or more easily made. We will need to help develop hacking guides for adding software modules . We may need hardware development guides to help guide generation of aby bartlee45 - General
I don't think I've seen anyone trying to make spikes like that yet. I know there are some early tests about thickness of walls etc. The trick is going to be cutting off the flow of the thermoplast. If we drag it along as we've seen in many pictures it might not be able to turn on and off and hit a spot repeatably. Maybe someone can design a cutter? to snip the flow or another mechanism for causinby bartlee45 - Polymer Working Group
Assuming you mean a 25 pin serial port, no problem. If it is a parallel port connector, problem.by bartlee45 - Reprappers
Yes Forrest, I really agree with you on that one. I wish I had access to just some of the kinds of things we are working on creating now. I aspired to building an oscilloscope which I have seen done cheaply today with modern electronics and even the crt on Make. I think a lot of us here come from the "love to make things" group. Even if we mainly were able to just take things apart. I would loveby bartlee45 - Polymer Working Group
I think a lot of us think spackling compound (US) polyfilla (UK and maybe everywhere else) is a good bet. If you are using no temp fast drying resins then maybe wax would be ok. I thought of wax early on but knew it would not work well with the hotter temps of some of the plastics we use. I believe Adrian noted that even something fairly liquid would however support something just laid lightly acby bartlee45 - Paste Extrusion Working Group
I was thinking that if you want to print some heavy duty stuff, just reprap a thermoplastic mold and then fill it with whatever you want. You might be able to reuse it. Then there is no fancy mixing, just a stirring stick and some disposable containers to mix in. I'm sure that many materials will fall into the hard to dispense but great to be made out of category.by bartlee45 - Paste Extrusion Working Group
Yeah Zach, I'm thinking that copper or bronze would have only lost you 1 or 2 bits. Steel is tough for little bits like that. How fast were you going? If you had to go very deep and you didn't go very slow with light pressure, I can understand how you might have snapped a number of them. I bet you could find thick copper wire like for grounding heavy electrical equipment, say 5mm wide maybe and dby bartlee45 - General
The universal stripboard version isn't a far stretch from the original. I made the original (for the 754410) and migrated it to the universal (still 754410) and added Adrian's led and everything. No worries just be careful of the new pin assignments. I had to move 4 of them around I think.by bartlee45 - Controllers
