Hi all, I've been collecting bits to build a Mendel for a while now and as my electronics have arrived (the last major item except for plastics), I realised I better get a move on with my Repstrap. First thoughts were to go with an OverlapStrap, but after being reminded by Sebastien that the WolfStrap might be a better solution I decided to go with that. As I am building my RepStrap out of scrby CraigRK - Reprappers

I guessed it would be enough, so I have gone ahead with my RepStrap last night. I'll be blogging about it and will post in the appropriate forum later.by CraigRK - 3D Design tools

Do you think it will be a problem for a RepStrap, i.e for printing anyby CraigRK - 3D Design tools
Terry, I am surprised that you haven't had a reply to you emails. I have just received my order which I ordered quite a while ago, I have not yet done any testing (or in fact opened the inner packaging as I only want to do that when I can do so safely) I was told that there were issues with the batch of chips they had gotten in which caused problems. As I am not that into electronics I was hby CraigRK - For Sale
Markus, Thanks I will experiment further and also look into STEP. Regardless of where I go with my RepStrap I want to resolve this issue. Thanks, Craigby CraigRK - 3D Design tools
Sebastien, Going off topic for this list (3d software), but I guess I probably will end up going this way as it is much simpler. One of my other plans is a CNC mill anyway so the experience will stand me in good stead (although I don't expect to re-use any of the parts). I have a fantastic pre-made z-axis from a computer monitor stand. It uses 2 'drawer slides' and has a gravity/weight conpby CraigRK - 3D Design tools
Markus, Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't know about STL being measurement unit agnostic. I guess I need to find a part for which I accurately know one of the measurements and then work out the factor. As even dividing by 25.4 as you suggest, the vertex piece still comes out at c. 1000mm long (I took the longest dimension). I would that this part is no more than 100mm at the most. Hi all, I want to print out dimensioned drawings of some of the 3-d parts in the Mendel set. I thought a simple way of doing this would be to import the .stl into Sketchup and then add dimensions. I have no problems importing either the STL or the DXF (the example is the Mendel Vertex). The problem is however that it comes up as around 24500 mm long. This is obviously wrong. The same happenby CraigRK - 3D Design tools
I still have lots of this available. Some have been delivered, hopefully when the builders have finished their beds they'll post some comments here. Craigby CraigRK - For Sale
Item: Dibond FR heated bed material Item description: Based on the Heated Bed experiments conducted by Nophead (Dibond Bed), the comments to his blog article and Adrian's Mendel Heated Bed wiki page, I decided to buy some Dibond FR for making a heated bed. Personally I'm extremely impressed. I just bought a pile of bits (10 of each size that I expect to use) and won't be surprised if I destroy the lot trying to make one nozzle. What impresses me even more is your willingness to research how you can do a better job.by CraigRK - For Sale
All, Thanks for the feedback, I have now been able to track down the right part. Each time I searched I couldn't find the right thing which I put down to my own inexperience at buying electronic parts. I kept finding the lower rated parts. Cheers, Craigby CraigRK - Controllers
Hi all, I'm collecting parts for my build and am struggling to pin down which thermistor to acquire. On the wiki I only see generic references. Now I appreciate that the thermistor settings can be calibrated but all the ones I am finding are rated around -55 to 150 degrees C. As the nozzle needs to heat to 250C for ABS this seems to be too low. (Or can the thermistors handle more?). Please hby CraigRK - Controllers
Hi, If you guys agree, then perhaps this could be added to the posting instructions by moderators. Hence my non for sale post in the for sale forum. How about if sales posts are prefix with the country/state of origin. e.g. UK - Full mendel plastics set. I know most sellers will ship internationally, but if I have a choice I prefer to stick to the same country due to shipping times and simplby CraigRK - For Sale
The comment below is from an interested bystander who is unlikely to make a purchase unless his own attempts fail (I have my own lathe and have ordered the raw materials so will be trying to make my own) I find it encouraging that a happy customer has posted a picture of the items when an unhappy customer has neglected to do so after numerous requests by the seller and other forum members to doby CraigRK - For Sale
Marcus, You're right, thanks for confirming my understanding. To be honest, I can see why the parts are achieving these prices. I've spent a substantial amount of time reading Nophead's blog and the other core team efforts. They have put a lot of effort in and people who want sets of parts are prepared to pay a premium to get them. My point was just that the BOM shouldn't underestimate curreby CraigRK - For Sale
Si, That's great news. No preference from me at this time. I'm sure I may form an opinion later when once I've completed my build and start making revisions. As with DIY campers (one of my other pastimes), I am sure this is the kind of build which is never done. (Even if it works) Craigby CraigRK - Reprappers
Hi Si, I definitely want one. Please let me know how much and how to get the cash to you. Obviously I can come pick it up in person once you have it. You can keep contacting me on the forum or on email (craigkritzingernet) Thanks, Craigby CraigRK - Reprappers
Si, Would it not be cheaper for them to produce multiple sheets in one go, or is it that once they done a 'setup', then reloading it is a lower setup cost. When I last looked into commercial laser cutting (ages ago), the people wanted the setup fee each time. If it is cheaper to simply run 2 off at the same time, then it may be an idea for me to get one with you now rather than later (I need tby CraigRK - Reprappers
Hi Si, I live in Leatherhead, Surrey so seem to be very close to you. I'm keen to get started on my own Mendel, so am working through a planned approach. As funds are tight this will mean doing things over time. I'm starting with getting some of the hardware together, will be trying to make some of the RP parts out of wood and just get the RP parts I need to get going then replace as I can prby CraigRK - Reprappers
Hi Sebastien, Thanks for the response. I can understand the logic you've used, but it does mean that I need the £300 up front to start off don't I. I will be taking the approach of trying to make some parts from wood. Will no doubt need to buy the extruder bits (or MakerBot kit), as that seems to be the difficult bit. I was just wondering how the numbers added up. Using your logic, I supposby CraigRK - For Sale
Hi, I'm very new here (only just registered), but had seen the RepRap a couple of years or so ago. Having studied mechanical engineering and being a software developer by trade, this kind of device appeals. I am trying to figure out the costs and approach to build myself a RepRap and have seen that both you and NopHead are selling complete Mendel sets on Ebay. These are currently in the regioby CraigRK - For Sale
