Alternatively you could try a 32-bit board like the Duet which includes a webserver on the board for controlling the printer. No dedicated computer necessary. The Duet 0.6 board is available from Replikeo for $50, though there have been some issues with quality in the past and reports of poor communication since the Chinese New Year. Another option would be running an application like Octoprintby Kurzaa - General
Thanks, I will check that out.by Kurzaa - Delta Machines
I was wondering if there was any information on the theoretical or ideal maximum bed radius for a delta printer. My Rostock Mini Pro came with a 160mm (?) acrylic plate that I replaced with a 9in (?) glass bed from a silicone cheesecake pan. But setting a radius of 85mm in my Slic3r settings has the arms nearly vertical at times and occasionally appear to be past the 90 degree mark for some moveby Kurzaa - Delta Machines
I second the recommendation of the Duet board from Filastruder, especially as the support from the maintainers of the firmware is incredible. However, I believe a new revision to the board is anticipated by the end of the summer, so you might not want to upgrade immediately.by Kurzaa - Reprappers
When adjusting the X and Y scaling, you generally want to print a larger test object in order to dial in your printer the best. That said, I just read somewhere else about the idea to print a second cube at 2-3 times the size of your first print. If the margin of error (0.15mm in your case) increases by the same amount, then it is an issue with your scaling. If it remains roughly the same thoughby Kurzaa - Reprappers

IP address worked, thanks for the M552 tip. I will need to figure out how to configure my router as a local DNS server for my phones / tablets.by Kurzaa - Duet
Re-tried it today and I did notice the progress bar and confirmed that the export had finished. I also upped the thread count which I think really helped with the speed of the export. Thanks for the help guys.by Kurzaa - Slic3r
@mhackney My phone (Android) uses my WiFi network at home and I did check that it was connected after it failed to find the Duet. Didn't try my tablet or using the IP address, but I will keep playing with it now that I know it should be possible. Thanks for the monospace style sheet, I will try it out after upgrading my firmware and DWC. And it turned out that I killed Slic3r and uploaded theby Kurzaa - Duet
Dude, take a deep breath and step away from the keyboard. I haven't even upgraded to X yet. You are making too many great improvements so fast that I am really starting to hate commercial software developers and their once a year maintenance updates. Seriously though, would it be possible to add some kind of g-code check to a file before starting a print? Just tried my first "real" attempt at prby Kurzaa - Duet
Moving away from Repetier Host to the web interface on the Duet board, so I did a fresh "install" of the latest stable version of Slic3r this week so I could use it as a stand alone application. The UI is definitely different from what I am used to, but I think I am figuring it out. However, tonight was my first attempt slicing with it, thought everything was fine, didn't see any kind of slicingby Kurzaa - Slic3r
I just had this issue when switching from RAMPS to Duet. In my case, the issue was how I was wiring the endstops, essentially shorting (?) the power rail, 3v3, to ground instead of connecting the signal and ground pins. Double check to make sure your endstops and other wiring is correct.by Kurzaa - RAMPS Electronics
Is there a reason you are against using the RepRapFirmware for the Duet board? Not sure Repetier Firmware is compatible, though I have never considered trying it myself.by Kurzaa - Repetier
I have an EZStruder from SeeMeCNC on my Rostock Mini, though I am not sure I would recommend it. Nothing wrong with it, just not positive it is the best choice.by Kurzaa - Reprappers
Again, just a quick update in case anyone ever has a similar issue as I encountered. Turns out my problem wasn't with the hot end wiring, but rather a difference between how RAMPS and Duet handles end stops. I plugged my end stops into 3v3 and ground instead of signal and ground. Once I swapped out the 2-pin connectors for 3-pin connectors with the middle pin empty, board lit right up...literallby Kurzaa - Safety & Best Practices
Yep. That definitely appears to be the issue. Rewired the end stops to signal and ground and now when I power on, LEDs power on for each of the end stops which is a really nice feature. Sadly one of my carriages then broke and won't grab the Y belt. Thankfully I have a back-up already printed.by Kurzaa - Duet
Gonna call it right now, Nailed It. Noticed the RAMPS signal, positive, and ground wasn't the standard order I am used to with servos, since they are all currently wired with 2-pin connectors, I just went with + and - when plugging them in. I will replace the connectors with 3-pin ends and try it out again. Thanks David.by Kurzaa - Duet
Thank you for the explanation and welcome to my second problem, never tried Cura. But it seems like you are using Cura to control your printer, just like I use Repetier Host to control mine. Quick Google search suggests that Cura has a gcode "console" under a "Term" tab in the interface? Sounds like the tab should list the serial feedback from your printer, things like the type of firmware instaby Kurzaa - Delta Machines
Finally swapping out my RAMPS board for a Duet 0.85 from Filastruder. Tweaked the system files slightly, but mostly formatted them for my own benefit. My problem though is that as soon as plugged the board in for testing, the hot end started heating up, which I didn't notice until filament started oozing and popping out (was trying to connect to the web server). Found some Duet documentation recby Kurzaa - Duet
Local hardware store didn't have anything small enough, will need to keep looking. However, I did try tinning and adding heat shrink in the short term to make sure I wasn't dealing with any stray strands causing shorts. But in both the Duets hot end connectors, once I connect the wires, I seem to be getting shorts in the connector. Gonna try posting the issue in the Duet forum incase I screwed uby Kurzaa - Safety & Best Practices
I assumed the ethernet was built into the 32-bit chip itself, so I would likely just keep the built-in ethernet port instead of adding to the cost of the board for wifi. I think I would prefer wifi over ethernet, since I can always plug in a computer via USB if I need to be tethered and also why I originally purchased the Nano immediately after ordering the 0.85. Though I doubt I will be buyingby Kurzaa - Duet
Not familiar with MicroMake. Is this a chinese / aliexpress kit? RAMPS or other 8-bit board? Did you load the firmware on the printer yourself or did it come preloaded? Are you just using the LCD display to manipulate the printer or did you also connect your printer? What other printers have you used in the past? Typically, you will have software on your computer like Repetier Host or Ponterfaceby Kurzaa - Delta Machines
Also look for a nearby hacker space or check to see if the local library has a 3D printer.by Kurzaa - Delta Machines
Working on swapping from RAMPS board to a new Duet board. In swapping wires, my power input ends were tinned and worked fine but my hot end fans were just twisted and screwed down. However, looks like the hot end had a short at the terminal and overheated really fast...PLA was bubbling out the nozzle and even had some smoke at one point. Fortunately I also wired the fan to the always on by accideby Kurzaa - Safety & Best Practices
Assuming EEPROM is enabled (handled in the firmware settings), try an M503 command to list all of the settings stored in EEPROM, this way you can see what the printer is currently trying to use. Then use an M502 command to load the default settings from your firmware, followed by another M503 so you can compare the hard coded firmware settings. If the values are different, this was likely (hopefby Kurzaa - Delta Machines
Few weeks late, but thanks for providing the reference graphic Gaou. And I will make sure to confirm polarity before wiring everything together.by Kurzaa - Duet
I have a suggestion for those using TPLINK or similar Nano routers for wirelessly connecting to the Duet (assuming the NG still uses an ethernet port), how about the edition of a micro-USB port, solely for providing 5V power to the router. Just a thought.by Kurzaa - Duet
My first thought was to reinstall the firmware and start from scratch, but it sounds like you already did that. Is it possible you have the EEPROM enabled? I am not sure that it is reset when uploading new firmware, so if it is enabled, perhaps your problem is a corrupted EEPROM setting. Not an expert, just a shot in the dark. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable with chime in.by Kurzaa - Delta Machines
A cheap RAMPS board will likely run you $25 - $50, a cloned 32-bit board in the $50 - $100 range, and a well made 8-bit board or an original 32-bit board will likely be in the $100 - $150 range, but the higher end board typically comes with better support and are made to better standards. There are of course always exceptions, but I would say the above is a decent generalization of the prices ouby Kurzaa - General
Was wondering if any Duet "Experts" were planning on attending the Midwest RepRap Festival next weekend in Indiana. Hopefully I can get my Duet transferred and working on my Rostock Mini before then, but thought it might be helpful to try and bring my printer to the show. Not really sure I want to lug around my printer like that, but it might be beneficial.by Kurzaa - Duet
