Thank you for the response! I essentially came to the same conclusion. RAMPS is cheaper, and modular so I can replace components if they break. I think it will meet my needs just fine. QuoteAre you planning on selling your printer(s) or are they primarily just for you to use? I don't have any plans to sell them, this is really just for my own use. Hey guys! So I've decided to build a DIY Taz, and I'm trying to decide on a control board so I can get a complete BOM together. I've been looking at mostly the Ramps and Rambo boards, but I guess I'm open to really anything. Here's what I want out of it: Support for 6 Steppers (4 for X, Y, and Z, 2 for dual extruders) Support for large heated bed (12"x12") through single power supply Works witby TheSerialHobbyist - Controllers
Yeah, I'm definitely leaning towards building my own Taz 4. I should be able to cut all of the pieces at work with our CNC punch (although I have to slightly modify the design). And by my math, if I skip the LCD/controller and the custom electronics enclosure and cabling, it should run me about $650-700 for all of the parts I have to purchase. Not too shabby.by TheSerialHobbyist - General
QuoteMrDoctorDIV With larger build volumes I would stay away from the non-z moving bed, that's a lot of mass and will severely limit speed and quality. So what would be a good alternative?by TheSerialHobbyist - General
Or maybe I should make a Taz 4 myself? I can do all of the printed parts of course. The aluminum parts I should be able to make using the CNC punch. Then it's electronics, t-slot, and rods I'd have to purchase.by TheSerialHobbyist - General
Hey guys! So I have a Printrbot Simple Metal. I've been pretty happy with it, but recently I received a Lulzbot Taz 4 to review. I've been very, very impressed with the Taz 4 and I've decided that I want something more along those lines. Unfortunately, the Taz 4 is way out of my price range, so I want to build a RepRap as similar to it as possible. However, as far as I can tell, none of the maiby TheSerialHobbyist - General
