No problem Johnby redskinsjbs - Reprappers
haha. Nice Forrest. I was thinking about those tiny locking clamp plier things. I didn't know what they were called, so I named it that.by redskinsjbs - Reprappers
If you want to build a Darwin, you will need to either build or buy the plastic parts. Then you will need to decide if you want to use the PIC electronics or the Arduino electronics. The Arduino is the way to go because it is the official new direction that RepRap is headed in. However, if you want to build a Mcwire RepStrap, you need to locate alot of these parts at you hardware store or atby redskinsjbs - Reprappers
John- I am a highschool student, but I have been in the community for some time now. I would recommend doing the electronics first if you are pressed for space, but if you are planning on shoving them in a box and waiting a year, I would hold off. The reason I say this is that the boards get updates to them every 3 to 6 months, so if you are just going to be waiting a while, it would be best toby redskinsjbs - Reprappers
OK, thanks Nophead and greenarrow. This is great! I don't think you understand how happy I am for all of the work that you guys have done on this tangent! My goal for this project originally was to have my Asus EEE be the computer that would operate my Reprap, but with all of the problems in the Host, it was looking like I would have to use a beefier computer to get the job done. These python scrby redskinsjbs - RepRap Host
Hey guys. I have a windows machine that is pretty clunky and I was hoping if you guys could tell me if python and its image libraries could run on linux?by redskinsjbs - RepRap Host
This is the type of thing that I was looking for someone with real expertise to do. I hate how the Java 3d stuff clogs up my computer. I haven't taken a look at any of the files yet, but this GUI just slices and prints the Gcode right? I then have to port that over to Chris's control GUI in order to get my machine to print?by redskinsjbs - RepRap Host
Do you mind if I ask where you are? I just think its cool that RepRap has reached the 3rd world, or maybe that you brought it there with you.by redskinsjbs - General
Forrest-- Only a joke. But what you can do is go to a jumkyard and ask them if you can rip a motor out. I've gotten a hundred dollars worth of stuff there for 5 bucks before.by redskinsjbs - Mechanics

This stuff is Great! I'll be goofing around with this for a while now. Also, I am proud to see that another one of my extraneous goofs inspired some real, actually productive work!by redskinsjbs - RepRap Host
Hey Nophead-- Could you upload that script you made?by redskinsjbs - RepRap Host
Oh, most definitely it is a good idea, but I am the wrong guy to be asking to do see as how I know very little about the internal workings of our RepRap Host software.by redskinsjbs - RepRap Host
I forget who had the idea, it was pretty recently. I think that it was Forrest. I think he mention that you could use a weight and a surface area on a piston, and then you'd be able to know the pressure coming out of the nozzle would be constant.by redskinsjbs - Mechanics
Plus you could burn a whole... I think...maybe..idk...just a suggestionby redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
That is so cool. Could you by any chance make some sort of very basic GUI and upload it here? That way I'd be able to preview what I am going to do using Chris Meigan's (Sorry if that is misspelled) Software. If not could you upload the script with some short directions or notes on how it works? What language is it? And one more question, why is the last slice incomplete? BTW: That Gif is now myby redskinsjbs - RepRap Host
I'll ask my step-mom over dinner tonight. She works at the patent office. I think that you can copy any design to your liking if you are only going to be using it yourself, and not selling it. Also, some countries don't recognize the patents of others, so your are free to steal from them all you like. I'll update this in 2 hours thoughby redskinsjbs - General
Yea, logically it makes sense. The plastic wants to stay in its former shape, so if you spend a longer time introducing a new shape (ie longer extrusion channel) then the result will be the the plastic takes more closely to that new shape.by redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
I think that right now you have to physically wire your z stepper backwards for the mcwire.by redskinsjbs - RepRap Host
I think that at this stage the reprap is more of a function design printer. It basically will print something that can perform a function, albeit the piece might look like a blob. I would suggest printing the negative for you models, because then the warping can be better controlled and the overhangs can instead become valleys.by redskinsjbs - General
The whole switching heads idea made some progress some months ago, and the heads were just going to be lined up along the side of the machine. I don't know about how far they have come since then.by redskinsjbs - General
It could work, just the logistics required to keep the piece from floating away might cause a couple of headaches.by redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
--Willow Yes, RepRap does has a subversion that works with Gcode Yes, you can ignore the PIC stuff if you use the Arduino Gcode interpreter With the arduino Gcode software, I think that the SNAP protocol has been eliminated. Concerning the Gcode, right now I think that it is a subversion, so it hasn't officially been accepted even though the arduino is the new dircetion of developement. Alsoby redskinsjbs - RepRap Host
I think the only problem with that train of thought right now is that only one person has successfully constructed all of the parts for a second darwin, and that is vik in New Zeland. I think that the whole community would be plenty willing to print you parts, but it looks like you might have to wait a year or so until others are able to print parts with the speed that Vik has achieved.by redskinsjbs - Reprappers
Plus, the gcode firmware has solved or at least relieved many of the pausing issues and it has great potential.by redskinsjbs - Controllers
Wait, wasn't that the plane that would keep flying even though a wing or wheel or engine would be shot off?by redskinsjbs - General
Your son can definitely do this. I mean, if I can I'm sure he can. I am only sixteen. With regards to the construction; I think that he should be able to completely solder and test all of the boards within two days if he works three to four hours a day. If you order the frame from Ian at BitsfromBytes or elsewhere, I'd expect a weeks worth of construction and fine tuning. This is all assuming thby redskinsjbs - General
Dont forget about ambient humidity. The Stratus keeps the chamber's humidity under strict controls. It would be interesting to see if any of you guys get different results and have different ambient humidities.by redskinsjbs - Plastic Extruder Working Group
Many of the Slashdot people are missing the point behind Reprap, so I do see them as welcome as long as they are ignorant and still biased.by redskinsjbs - General
