Saw this project sometime back, assume direct drive performs a little better as the filament has no chance to bend over long distances, quicker reactions & retractions? But from what I've seen the other bowden types seem to perform ok, but then I've not heard about the weak points. I was thinking of using flexicables(dremel) to drive my X-axis, or later for drill head, so I could keep the weiby MechaBits - General
I know your question was for Smothieboard, but wondered if this might come in handy for anyone, or the old school analogue pressure/distance guage types, just seen one for £6.50 or something like this or get one with magnetic base/stand. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-Bevel-Box-Level-Angle-Gauge-Meter-Inclinometer-Protractor-Magnetic-Base/181329214597?_trksid=p2047675.c100010.m2109&_trkparby MechaBits - General
Whats the difference with the flex drive, and the other method of pushing the filament down the ptfe tube(bowden/wade?), doesnt the spinning flexishaft create forces that you dont want, effecting print?by MechaBits - General
Bad news indeed, the Black J-Head is the sexiest looking, small, printhead out there, I wanted one for my printer as the printers got a lot of black in it. (the HEX one is nice too, better in black)...but I wasn't sure how it compares to the offerings out there. E3D /Hex It's a lot of money to stump down on something that may need to be changed later. From what i'm reading the Hex might look niceby MechaBits - RepRap magazine
I bought an old hifi stand the other day in a secondhand shop for £10 to use as a printer frame, spiked feet, removable shelves, leaving a nice TALL frame, I'm hoping to design my Z & X axis, to rotate 90 degrees, so I can use it at the top of this frame as the XY axis. Not seen any printers doing this at the moment.by MechaBits - General
LM8UU's are absolute rubbish god knows why anyone would use them, the 45mm length ones are sooo much better, would be even better if they where annodized or coated with something other than WD40 to stop them rusting. the differnt rods I was wondering about where silver steel, which I used to love at school, Chromed(dont want chrome coming off), and these other ones listed as optical...I got the oby MechaBits - General
Handy to know, as I'm running without the endstops at the moment, when the printer is turned on it assumes its at 0,0,0, (half way on the X)but it will only move + values from start(upto 200mm), it will come back when - is used until it gets back to where it started, then no further. So its not a bad setup just position everything where you want it. Zmin, Xmin Ymin then fire things up, no needby MechaBits - RAMPS Electronics
Getting to this point seems like a major milestone & After running the test code with no problems, successfully(or did i?) compiling the Marlin & finally getting the screen to work, and communicating with printer & sensor temp. I find the motors locked too. Not checked the pots yet, but assume they are ok as the test was moving no problem. Endstops working but not sure if I haveby MechaBits - RAMPS Electronics
