I think "plug-and-play" interchangeable nozzles would be an excellent idea. Maybe Makerbot had the right idea there. Not sure about the automated switching mechanism though. That sounds like it would be simpler just to go with 2 extruders instead.by An Original Name - General
Thanks for the help. I think I got it working a little better this time. I might have to work at it some more to get it perfect though.by An Original Name - General
I must warn you against ordering from Mendel-parts... They have VERY slow customer support and a VERY long lead time on most of what they sell. Be willing to wait a couple months to get what you order from them.by An Original Name - General
Thank you. I imported them into inkscape and they look fine. Now, on to another issue. I just received my HSS 4mm hand tap today and tried desperately to hob the bolt for the Wade's extruder. I first cut a groove where they center of the tap needed to be by running the bolt in an electric hand drill against a file. Afterwards, however, I made a makeshift bolt holder from 2 bearings, rubber bandsby An Original Name - General
for info about the prusa vs the normal mendel. And there is no version 2 of Mendel (unless you count the prusa and huxley). Rather, individual parts are periodically upgraded by different community members. For example, Wade contributed to this design and nophead made an improvement on the pulleys. What they mean when they say Mendel V2, is that Darwin was V1 (I'm sure you've seen pictures, itby An Original Name - General
Just consider it as more of a spectrum, as far as costs go. The more time you're willing to spend making the parts yourself, the less it will cost you. For example, if you were to buy the threaded rods pre-cut, they will probably be more expensive than buying the raw materials and cutting them yourself. As for 400 euros... My current build is around $700 at the moment. 400 * 1.4 (conversion fromby An Original Name - General

Part durability depends partly upon your calibration settings in say, Skeinforge. For example, if you set the y layer height too high, the layers will be too far apart to bond together nicely. One other key aspect is the type of material you are using. PLA tends to be, from what I've heard, more brittle than ABS. Correct me if I'm wrong.by An Original Name - General
Does anyone have feedback on ABS filament? They sold out awfully quick. There's got to be someone out there who bought a bit.by An Original Name - General

Gen6 is an all-in-one board for the whole RepRap; it has integrated stepper controllers and extruder controller. Price is relatively low, and what's more, you don't have to solder anything. Only problem is Camiel (owner of Mendel-parts) is a bit behind schedule at the moment; I ordered my parts on Nov. 14 and I still haven't gotten a shipping confirmation.by An Original Name - General
Does anyone have the dimensions for the thick sheet items? All I could find are the .dxf files, but I don't have a laser cutter and the files don't import with proper dimensions in OpenOffice.by An Original Name - General

If the heating element from a hot plate can be removed from its housing, it might be a good option for a heated bed. Multiple heat settings, low cost, no need to create a separate setup just for the hot bed, just plug it in and you're good. If this is a possible alternative to the current heated bed solutions, it could make heated beds become very inexpensive: $18 $12 That's a heated bed setuby An Original Name - General

QuoteBotmill HuxleyThis is a RepRap Mini Mendel "Huxley" Unassembled 3D Printer Kit based off the BOM list from RepRap. This includes all except for the plastic parts. You'd still need someone to make you the plastic parts. It is generally cheaper to make one yourself. Reading gave me the impression that it is possible to extrude ABS without a heated bed with somewhat good results. It mentions that the main option for ABS on a non-heated bed would be acrylic, since ABS sticks to that well. What kind of warping/lifting would I be looking at with this kind of setup (acrylic bed, ABS extrusion)? If you need more info on the size of the parts, just think of the Mby An Original Name - General

Those are the exact same motors I found. They seem to be the most feasible for Mendel at the moment, at least from Alltronics. I'm still waiting to hear back if they're compatible with Mendel though... Looking at the specs, it looks like they'll work. What's nice about this one in particular is they have nearly four times the required torque! At least you have enough torque, hehe. Looking aroundby An Original Name - General

Alright... I guess I should just focus on getting this build working first, then work on adding a heated bed. Extruder question: I'm thinking about building a hot end similar to . Is there any reason the mounting block has to be PEEK or could I make it out of wood? Oh... and one more thing: What is the best nozzle size for a RepRap?
