Hi Lars, A few questions... is the dome top needed at all on the left hand part in your illustration? If the dome is needed, then does it need to be domed on the inside also? If it can be flat topped then there's no problem as a well calibrated printer will have no difficulty bridging that gap and putting a top on that cylinder shape. If it needs to be domed on the inside also then it could be prby NumberSix - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
Dishwasher repairs... A replacement wheel bracket for dishwasher tray. It seems to be a common enough failure point on many brands of dishwasher. I've printed some for friends. The clip snaps and the wheel wobbles loose. It's a €5.50 part to order on-line round here. Now that I've drawn it up in Sketchup I can print my own replacements. Broken clip shown to top of photo. Wheel can be removed andby NumberSix - General
That's very good! But would you eat that candy? Have you not done any drawings to STL work? Would you not tackle it your self? The video gives you a good look at how it works.by NumberSix - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
Hi Gaz, How is it coming along? I'm very curious as to how boat design can meet 3d printing. I think the whole thing has great potential. There are a few challenges to be ironed out but if the topic draws enough interest you'll get plenty of positive input. I've downloaded that Delftship hull design software to check it out. It has some excellent examples with, but looks like a bit of a learningby NumberSix - Let's design something! (I've got an idea ...)
You're making good progress there Leinad13! I like how you got carried away when you got it working and "fixing and improving went out the window"! Sometimes, you just gotta print! Brilliant! But then you decided to push your luck and lower the layer height! You probably need to get the e-steps calibrated a little better though now that your extruder is working a bit better. Hi there, You make reference to an "online printing platform" in your survey. "Are you interested in being a beta tester for our online printing platform if we move forward with it? " Could you expand on what you have in mind when you say "online printing platform"? I'm not clear on what you mean. Tks, NumberSixby NumberSix - General
Hi Leinad13, I'm using Marlin, not Sprinter, but I suspect the Acceleration settings will be marked with suitable comments. If you're unsure what's typical for Sprinter then a quick question/post to the Firmware section of the forum should get you some feedback also. What's more of a concern is that you say you may still have some melted PTFE in within the PEEK insulator on your hot-end (if I'mby NumberSix - Reprappers
Hi Conr, Welcome to the forum! I'm sure you'll get responses here in this sub-section, but if you post your questions out on the main "general" section, by creating a new post, you'll probably get the world of responses. Expect all sorts of advice out there! It's also good to post here in the Irish section because you'll get advice from an Irish perspective. Hi Rien, Thanks for the detailed clarification on the shipping costs, and the offer of flexibility of coils of filament consolidated, and without the spool to reduce weight and optimise shipping costs. The cost of shipping from main-land Europe to Ireland seems to be a constant cost barrier for us, and something vendors may need to be conscious of if they are to attract Irish custom. Thanks agaiby NumberSix - Ireland RepRap User Group
Hi there, I loaded your test Sketchup file, exported it as an STL. It slices fine, even without running through Netfabb. I'm not sure why the Slic3r Plater view shows your test object as a solid square, but I don't think there is a problem with your object or the exported STL you have. I use Repetier-host. It has an excellent 3D view of any STL you load, and a similar view of the sliced object tby NumberSix - Reprappers
I was about to order some 3mm ABS (large role). I'm curious whether anyone has an excess of any particular colour with a view to swapping a few meters. That would influence the choice of colour I'd order. For instance, if someone has a large role of Black or White, but no Red then I'd order Red and arrange swap (meter for meter) of Red for what ever you have excess of. Better still if you areby NumberSix - Ireland RepRap User Group
Hi there, Your filament pricing appears to be no different than other European suppliers, but because you sell it in smaller roles (.9kg) the shipping cost to Ireland makes your site unattractive. e.g. .9kg spool is priced at €24.95 but costs €22.39 to ship to Ireland. Adding more to the order doesn't help. I added another item to the order and shipping went to €30. Perhaps the shipping charge leby NumberSix - Ireland RepRap User Group
Hi there, I don't use solder on those joints either. I've a few photos and a description of my approach here on my blog, if you want to take a look at that. I use a small pop rivet as a joiner, with the centre pin and head removed!by NumberSix - Reprappers
Hi Leinad13, Have you read Rich's guide to extruder calibration, here ? That might help a little also. Why did your first x-carriage melt? What hot-end are you using? A small cooling fan under the x-carriage would be advisable if too much heat is rising to the x-carriage. It would be a good idea to get some simple objects printing well before trying larger ones. Interesting! Good use of a single stepper motor to drive two different feeds. They move the idler and nozzle assembly of one away from the drive wheel while engaging the other idler and nozzle, with very little movement. It also reverses the rotational direction of the stepper. clever! I've trawled through quite a few blogs and posts over time here but haven't seen this tried on a reprap. Anyoneby NumberSix - General
Are you following on-line instructions? Can you post the link that says there should be a 3mm PTFE sleeve inserted? Looks like there should be a smaller sleeve inserted to that 2mm hole. Where did you buy the kit? You might drop them an email. I'm sure they will clarify quickly. Was there any 2mm PTFE in the kit?by NumberSix - Reprappers
Hi Leinad13, If you want to "MacGyver" a solution and you have a pointed pliers then you can fashion a wire guide from a coat hanger. I've mocked one up so you can see. Only takes a few minutes and is a robust solution. Here it is positioned in an old extruder just to show it fits. Regards, NumberSixby NumberSix - Reprappers
Hi there! Welcome to the forum. Just wanted to point to one post that RichRap did that might be of interest to you. Here's a link to the post He was selling the chocolate extruder as a kit but I'm not sure if he still is but he's readily contactable via this forum. It was an experimental development, as you'll see from his post, but might give you some ideas. Regards, NumberSixby NumberSix - Reprappers
Hi there, This plugin, by Jim Foltz, supports both ASCII and binary STLs. It adds an Import... option under File. Be sure to choose the correct unit of measure when importing e.g. mm, or the imported object will be way off scale. You may still want to retain the other pulg-in mentioned above as it has an Export option that you'll need to get the an STL back out of Sketchup. STL's tend to comby NumberSix - Reprappers
Hi Phizinza, If you want some more examples, I can chuck some failed ABS pieces amounting to maybe 1" cubed into a jar with 1" of acetone in it and it will dissolve completely into a thick liquid over night. You will have to do more experimenting to figure out which one isn't quite right, the acetone or the ABS. I use acetone being sold in a Hairdresser Supply Shop. It's labelled "acetone". Hi Aeronaut, Welcome to the forum. I've been following the evolutions of the desktop sized offerings for a while now and the Mendel90 has to be top of my list of design, kit quality, value for money and technical backup at this point in time. If want an easy start into 3d printing that would be my recommendation. I've no association with the developer/supplier (Nophead here on the forum), but I'by NumberSix - General
Hi Keith, I'll be happy to support you if you are willing to create an website with an Irish focus. You can point to my blog if you like. That's not a problem. I got my last filament from ReprapSource in Germany. Their shipping was the most competitive. I'm not sure they would be your best bet for 1.7mm though. I'm using 3mm which is cheaper per weight in general. I've shared shipping costs witby NumberSix - Ireland RepRap User Group
Hi there, It is a little experimental but if you just want to know what others are setting for general comparison, I'm printing in white ABS at the moment and it's lookin' lovely with a hot-end temperature of 240 Deg C, at around 50mm/sec. When I push the speed up a little more I bring the temperature up just a few degrees to help with bonding. I had been dropping the nozzle temperature down to aby NumberSix - Reprappers

Hi Keith, There's no Irish based reprap/3d printing specific supply shop that I'm aware of, and I've been keeping an eye on things for quite a while now. You can get all your nuts and bolts and stuff locally alight but when it come to stepper motors, electronics and hot-ends you really have to order on-line. The shipping is a killer as you probably know, but I don't think there's the level of intby NumberSix - Ireland RepRap User Group
The problem is probably with the 'nail polish remover'. It doesn't contain very much acetone. I tried the same thing starting out, but when I switched to some acetone I got from a hair salon supply shop it dissolved the ABS straight away. The new container was labelled "acetone", not "nail polish remover".by NumberSix - Reprappers
I've taken to it in recent months. I like the 3d views, of both the object and the sliced code. The 3d view is also good for laying out multiple objects. I use Slic3r through it. Works great. It brings your Slic3r Print/Filament/Printer settings nicely through to a drop-down on the host interface. The temperature graphing is excellent also.by NumberSix - General
Hi there, Seems busy enough to me. That's without any stats to analyse. There's always a few repeat questions, but that's ok too as sometimes things evolve and the answer may get better. From what I see, people are still willing to muck in and give answers here. I notice newer people stepping up to give a shot at answering questions also and that's great to see. You have some great suggestions above. I think you are right to choose something that prints quickly, and is relatively simple but nice as a give-away. If you do one just to show the printer in action, then that should impress them (if they are going to be impressed at all! ). Then explain how it can print multiple copies at the same time and set it printing a few at a time, which you explain yby NumberSix - General
